Soul Calibur V goes gold - New Vids, Screens

Zwei's opponent (using Asta's moveset) looks like one of the armored giants in Dark Souls. Awesome. And I just realized Namco published that game as well. Namco's takin all mah gaming money recently.

Wouldn't be the first time Namco put "parts" from their other franchises into the character creator. They had an entire set for Kos-Mos (Xenosaga) in SC3. Pretty sure they already confirmed some Tekken pieces in this game too.

Alternate character forms? My god, this is hype. You know a game is polished and hosts a wealth of surprises when the team has time to add things like this.

Well, at least Setsuka's moveset is still there. Kind of odd that they couldn't be bothered to craft an all-new character model for it, though, and instead went the "EX Char" route.

Ah well. 2 more weeks! And if Pyrrha does indeed get Hwang's style, that'll be funny as HELL. :lol

Though honestly, I'd be happier if she got Starkiller's.

Same here. Latest offender was Gundam Extreme Vs. Cost a pretty penny.

I don't like CAC stuff. It messes with hitboxes.

We'll see what will happen in the final game, but they've apparently fixed that problem this time. Although there are variable sizes for the character, it seems like each style has a "default" size matching the original character (highlighted with a star), so we might not see the hitbox differences from the previous games if the custom caracter is created for the correct size.

Not a fan of Setsuka being EX Patroklos.

I think the best thing to do is online begging to put Setsuka's model in as DLC so we can have an official Setsuka if she's not in the game at launch.

Yeah, but I still can only play the character at home.

I'm cool with Patsuka, so long as it is straight up Setsuka's style. But there are moves he couldn't do if he didn't have the umbrella...they'd look weird. Like the FC 3aB. Which is, like, the best punisher ever.

The umbrella is part of her style, and I don't see this being just Setsuka, which really sucks and is a horrible taunt for Setsuka fans.

I would expect it to be a variation on Setsuka's style instead of exactly what it was, just like the other replacements like Natsu, Leixia, etc. have been. That variation could account for changing some moves up due to lack of umbrella now. That being said, if you look at the vids both Alpha Pat and Edgemaster using the style do look pretty strange in some of their animations.

I don't see those as being variations. For me, it's a typical Namco move to give a moveset to a "new" character. They still look like the same style given tweaks one would expect from a new iteration.

Patsuka just looks like they gave him Setsuka's weapon in CAC mode without tweaking. Definitely looks bizarre.

I never cared for Setsuka, and if this gives us a pure iaido style to mess around with in CaS, all the better.

Zasalamel, Talim and a variation on the Korean sword better be in there though, or there's a bunch of styles we'll be missing. I've given up hope on Mi-Na.

How would Setsuka's inclusion mean you wouldn't be able to mess with her style in CAC?

This is frustrating for me since Setsuka has been my main since she was introduced. It's stupid to have a halfassed version of her style given to an already existing character.

There were many people who used to complain about Setsuka's umbrella limiting her style for CaS. Alpha Patroklos just has the sword and hilt, like a standard Iaido fighter, but the umbrella would certainly still be there if this were the actual Setsuka.

That would make sense, I guess, if the clip didn't look exactly like Setsuka minus the umbrella.

And Edgemaster doesn't have the umbrella, which would mean they're both mimicking a character with Setsuka's style, but no umbrella, lol.

For all we know, Alpha Patroklos could have some hidden "umbrella" in his movelist. By that I just mean the sword morphs into something crazy to mimic Setsuka's crouching 3aB and other moves. The guy playing him on that Hobbynews video is terrible and just attempting throws 80% of the time and mashing B otherwise.

There's also speculation on 8wayrun that because we see so little of his moveset in the video (other than clearly being Setsuka), he may even have some Apprentice moves based on the way he's holding his sword. And maybe evil Pyrrha will be a Vader/Yunseong clone (or better yet, Yoda + Yunseong)

I don't know why people would be hung up on the lack of an umbrella. She barely used the thing, and the one major move she did use it on was basically a shoulder charge.

Because this looks lazy.

Also, it fit her animations. Without the umbrella, things look strange. Pat looks stupid with these animations.

aPat is more like a hybrid of Setsuka and Apprentice, from what I can tell, hence the lack of an umbrella. He might be a fun character, but Pat definitely looks pretty silly using that style.

Seriously. I mean, really, they couldn't take a bit of time to generate a decent looking character model to go with that style?

I mean, even "Assassin" was a nice compromise for keeping a facsimile of Hwang around in SC2. Hell, "Harada Tekken" looks imaginative in comparison to this! :lol

Right. This seriously looks like they gave Pat another weapon in CAC mode.

Lame.

Oh well.

You guys are judging this vid with absolutely no context. Rushed? Lazy? Sloppy? Asinine. We don't even know what this is. Strange interpretations of something that's most likely incidental to the meat of the game. Whatever.

He's taking up a slot, I know that; he's using Setsuka's move set, I know that, so if he really is Setsuka's replacement, which I think can be deduced, it is lazy.

What context is there? He's got Setsuka's animations and it looks odd for his character. They would've been better suited to take some CaS character and call it good.

And, yes, this looks horrible in comparison to the rest of the characters we've seen so far. I'd definitely say it's sloppy.

Alternate versions of newly introduced characters? And they take up a separate spot of the roster? BLEH.

Losing Setsuka is one thing, but not even being replaced by an independent character? That's pretty lame. And now we'll probably get Pyrrah 2.0 too. :/

Is today "Reveal Lame Characters" day or something?

Hey, bad haircut or not, I don't mind Juri :(

I mean, it's cool that they're making the story mode have impact like that, but they could at least make Pat look completely different, like scarred up or something.
