Persona 4 - 18

a.k.a the Nanako episode

I don't believe this, drama that wasn't overdone or overstayed it's welcome and delivered in a neatly done package that I can't really formulate a complaint against.

I'm not entirely sure I really did just watch Persona 4 just now, that was too good.

Denpa Girl Rankings:
Maekawa -> Erio -> Meme -> Ryuukoshi -> Loli Alien.

(Although the way Erio refers to Makoto as "cousin" is just so HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH)

Erio > Meme > Ryuukoshi > Maekawa > Index

You people are blinded by the moe and sparkles.

There's more to a woman than that!

For those of you who saw Another how does it compare to the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series. I'm a big Higurashi fan and was wondering how this new show stacks up to Higurashi's storytelling, atmosphere and suspense? Would it be like the closest best thing?

Okay so, I have sinned and bought The Sky Crawlers. I tried to rectify my sin by also buying Panga Go Panda.

We shall see.

Oh, and I also noticed that they had the DVD's for House of Five Leaves. However, the price was £45 (approximately $70) so I imagine that no-one will ever pick it up, considering how few people have heard of it. I'm sure it's a long time viable business model.

Man we're actually going to reach OT2 at around the halfway point.

We may be looking at a new record by the time the season is over.

Are you not checking on Amazon.co.uk? It says it's £25.99

I'm still waiting for NIS to release it here.

Atmosphere feels alot like Higurashi suspense payoff is alot slower ofcourse because there is only one arc in Another.
this is the the closest to Higurashi you can get other than Umineko but Id argue Another's atmosphere is better than that.

I bought it (and Tatami Galaxy, for that matter), but given it's Beez and they've gone the way of Bandai Entertainment in the US, it doesn't really matter if it's a viable business model at this point.

It's the closest thing to Higurashi.

Umineko is an abomination of a show. A god awful adaptation and a horrendous show in its own right.

I am thoroughly enjoying Another. It's quite good.

Oh, I'm aware it's cheaper on Amazon, I just like to look at the shelves in HMV to see how much they over-charge for their selection.

They likely just sublicensed those from Siren Visual in Australia though.

Hmm, I'm just flipping through one of my newly acquired anime books when I spotted some old sales-age data for UK anime releases.

>75,000 - Akira
>60,000 - Overfiend, Fist of the North Star, Streetfighter
>40,000 - Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City
>25,000 - Other erotic horror
>12,000 - Guy Gigolo, other erotic
>8,000 - Armitage III, other SF
>4,000 - Average dub
>1,000 - Average sub
<1,000 - Minority interest, import

Of course, I can't expect any anime title to sell that well these days, but some of those titles did really well over here. All those negative press articles for Overfiend (which was released in cinemas by the way) seems to have made it a huge success.

Kumojacky has such awesome hair. Manly as hell.

I really want to find out more about
Yuri, since she looks like she could be either the badguy Precure or Cure Moonlight with that hairstyle.

For comparison sake the first Eva movie sold 9000 in the UK

Man, the UK loved tentacles.

Anime on the high street has always been a ridiculous thing to try and buy, though. Even the speciality shops like Forbidden Planet are horrifically overpriced (I think House of Five Leaves was £40 in there last time I looked).

You're right, though - there is a complete barrier to people picking up stuff like that and Tatami Galaxy when it's overpriced and in a sea of volume 3s of mediocre ADV licenses from the Sojitz days, as per HMV et al.

Ghibli films always get a stand to themselves, though; I'd forgotten Arietty was out already until I saw it the other day. Of course, I then bought it off Amazon because it was cheaper, but still...

Man, the UK loved tentacles.

Perhaps some, er, context is needed here.

Manga UK, the company behind the release of Overfiend, pulled off a move of marketing brilliance by having Overfiend shown in theatres. Once you've done that all you need to do is wait for some tabloid journalist (by which I mean, someone who writes for the largely conservative press that covers celebrity sex scandals and is read by a huge swathe of the population) to see the film, wait for them to write an article about how "this outrageous filth should be BANNED" and then wait for people to flock to the movie. Even better, politicians were calling for it to be banned in the Houses of Parliament. I mean, you can't get much better free press then that.

Of course, all this had the knock-on effect of tarnishing the image of anime in the UK, but it certainly worked well for Manga UK.

I don't think I can make a new thread yet so I thought I'd post this here. ANY help is appreciated! :D

So, I recently watched all of Golgo 13. It was my first anime not counting Akira, which I saw when I was REALLY young in the 80's. I'm looking for recommendations for the following...

1. Mature theme, action

2. An art style that looks more "human" like Golgo, I'm not big on the art style with huge eyes and stuff.

3. Modern action, if possible, with as little fantasy as possible.

Yeah, I'm picky. Sorry, lol. If you feel like recommending something even if it doesn't fit all my categories, just do so!

Master Keaton is mature, features a realistic art style courtesy of Naoki Urasawa, and is set in the post Cold War era. It stars Taichi Keaton, a half-Japanese, half-British archeologist/insurance investigator/former British Special Air Service soldier/Renaissance man, who uses his many talents and keen mind to navigate through the globe-trotting adventures he gets himself into. Well worth a watch.

Cobraja's fabulousness > Kumojacky's manliness. He always carries a pair of opera glasses with him, like a student council member in Utena:

Damn, first the end of episode 12 and now this. Shaft be trolling like crazy.

Wait, when did Hachikuji go from being annoying to not being annoying?
Also I knew she was enjoying it!

Senjougahara, once again, is stealing this show.
The look on her face when Araragi was asserting himself. That's what dreams are made of

Also, uhhhhhhh (spoilers) So much trolling the audience here.

Maaya Sakamoto's voice is sex.

Can you clarify this one. Modern action, as in set in modern times? You said you don't want fantasy, does that rule out scifi stuff?

Ah I forgot he's gone for like a month.
