Mass Effect 3 Extended CG Launch Trailer - Take Back Earth [Up: Trailer Released]

Thought the same thing. I feel like ME3 got marketed horribly, mostly relying that people are gonna buy the game either way (probably an accurate assessment, though). It's a classic sci-fi game. Who cares about Earth?

Well, the entire game is like that, so we better get used to it now.

I just don't understand why you'd need a Kinect. We have headsets for heaven's sake.

I guess technically you don't. MS could just feed your voice from the headset through the voice recognition softeware and you'd get the same result.

TBH from what I tried I see no reason you couldn't have the voice stuff on PS3 or PC provided you had appropriate software for the recognition side (for example i think Eyetoy has voice libraries)... but then MS wants you to use Kinect and they do (to their credit) seem to have the best packaged up toolset for developers to use with the inputs from Kinect.

Personally I would like MS to allow voice recognition purely through the existing headset by providing software for that without the need for Kinect - but I suspect they're not going to be keen on that idea.

Doesn't Kinect takes some of the weight off what they would otherwise need to do to get Voice Commands to work, Kinect development comes with the tools that are built around using Voice to control what to do because they are built around using a Kinect in the first place.

If they wanted to use a Headset for Voice Commands I would assume they would need to use a 3rd party solution and build it into the game which would no doubt take more time than just using tools already developed.
This is something to blame MS for I would imagine as they want people using a Kinect and not headset, so didn't build tools for Headsets to be used in the same way and I imagine don't let developers try to use these tools if they want to use a Headset.

Ok, this trailer was fucking weird. One: why would a reaper attack ONE farmhouse? Two: Why the parts with Shepard are so badly done? It feels like he's "Meh, gotta kill some stuff there and here nothing special." Seriously, all I can see in this trailer are all the wrongs. Also, I find that girl's face kinda creepy.

Have to agree. It just feels like a random fan trailer concept was given the green light for full CG effects.

When I think about it... Fighting the reapers on foot doesn't make much sense anyway. I mean it worked in the last mission of ME 1 because of Saren but here appears to be no reason why Shepard and Ashley would fight husks on the ground.
I hope the make a better job in the game to explain this.

I think the farmhouse is a cross-promo location with "The Walking Dead", which is set there atm.

Husk part was pretty great. Was cool that it showed the humans turning into husk for the first time. Also the British sniper in the tower was a nice touch as well, since that was the very first announcement of the game. I wonder if he actually has a role in the game? I remember everyone thought he would be the James Vega character, and now I kinda wish he was lmao. Sounds a lot more interesting.

Let me get this straight. A promo for a movie you are already seeing? What kind of sense does that make?

That toy ship we saw on the trailer? Ultimate weapon to destroy the Reapers. Also, why fight on an open field? Just feels so non-tactical and stupid. Though I admit it is a bit refreshing to NOT see waist-high cover in something Mass Effect related.

Man, if it turns out that the reapers are only attacking the earth because the Protheans hid an ancient artifact there, I'm going to write a very angry email to bioware.

Wait a second. It all makes sense now. That toy ship is the ultimate weapon to destroy the Reapers no? So they sent Reaper equivalent of Kai Leng to destroy it.

I thought it was obvious why Shepard was in the sunflower field. He's an avid model ship collector. Duh.

A TV series. And it makes sense because these days these kind of promos are launched on all sorts of media including print and web (youtube). If you see towards the end, they do promote the fact that it's aired during "The Walking Dead". Obviously it's to drum up continuous interest in the program even during commercial break (where most people tend to switch channel) and to attract possible new genre viewers.

I have wished he was the new character since we first saw him, I haven't played ME3 yet obviously, but I am pretty uninterested in Vegas as a character as a whole, he would have been a great half way point character, maybe someone who was there on Earth a lot longer after Shepard leaves and manages to leave the planet.

Heh.
Do we know if we are getting any random room decorations in ME3 yet, I mean, what happened to my fish from ME2 to ME3? those things could barely survive a mission without killing themselves off.

Well they want to take back earth, not nuke it to hell, so grounds troops are a necessity to secure locations and clean them of Husks and locate survivors. As well landing in the middle of nowhere farm USA does make sense in respect to creating a secure landing zone and operations HQ, since the cities will invariably be far more overrun with Husks and Reapers.

But the whole attacking a single farm thing is likely meant to represent two things, first the innocence lost, little girl playing in an idyllic field of sunflowers and sunshine and lady bugs and it, and the little girly most likely, are utterly destroyed by the Reapers. Its not just humans and their man made cities but earth itself thats being obliterated by the Reapers. And two, it conveys the fact that the Reapers are everywhere and no one on earth is safe. Sure they leveled the cities but theyre even in the rural areas, scorching every square inch of earth.

The walking dead is a TV show this trailer was a cross promotion with the show (it has higher viewer figures putting it on during the show is good marketing) ALL of earth is getting wrecked by the reapers they showed the Walking Dead farmhouse because its relevant to the TV show.

Non-tactical ? really? You dont decide in which environment an encounter happens, Its not like the laid in wait for the reapers to come and decided they would wait till they reached the open fields to engage them its fairly obvious the are launching a counter strike against them and its pretty likely the reapers have disabled any anti-ground equipment and so they had to do it on foot.

I just noticed that even Shepard in the poster runs in the same running pose that Rick (Andrew Lincoln's character) does in the normal "Walking Dead" promo poster. I am typing on my phone atm so I can't do comparison but I thought that's a neat detail.

I guess that makes sense. Still there is plenty wrong with this trailer. Like what the fuck were they thinking? Did Dietz directed this trailer? Why did that girl look like she was made of wax? Why is there one Reaper attacking one farmhouse? Why did Shepard fly here? Why do they fight on an open field? What if there weren't only husks but some actual skilled Reaper soldiers with guns or something. And when Shepard walks there with Ashley 3 meters away from their squad (which is in some ridiculous formation) and they would easily get headshotted like "BAM! Fuck you! End of the series. Reapers win."

You get zero money/fish/hamster/toys whatever at the start. They've cleaned out the ship.

As for the trailer. I was looking for a more continuing fight scene, and not a " bam over, over here" trailer. Poor editing on their part. I did like the human turning into a husk. Yikes.

Man, they really shit up Ashley.

They seem to have a problem with how Women look in the Mass Effect universe lol, Miranda in ME2 looked strange in general considering how she is modeled after whatever her name is who looks perfectly hot without the strange face, but looks slightly different to her box art and comic counterpart, pretty different to her CG counterpart, and then looks even more different to how Miranda looks in the iOS game.

Ay I understand them taking everything away at the start, but I was wondering if we get anything later on in the game.
What happened to my fish and space hamster :(

Oh, I have a slight hunch they very intentionally took this angle, including the heavy, heavy marketing focus on combat.

Pre-orders for Mass Effect 3 are running substantially ahead of where we were at this point with Mass Effect 2. The buzz is building and we're betting that we've got another big hit from BioWare.

Speaking of which I just saw the FemShep trailer man....did they sure get the face on her all wrong. I can't pin it down either her eyes are to small or her cheekbones are to large and the really pasty white skin and freckles make her look to young compared to her electric red hair coloring and bright blue armour.

She sure does come across as a too young looking shep. And not in a sexy FemShep style to me.

default femshep looks weird. At least they improved the custom femshep options. Seen some really good custom ones made.

if they can top the me2 launch trailer (one of my all time favs) then i could look past the fact that controller support was not implemented and quite possibly buy the game on launch day.

it was good, i liked it, but it doesnt stand well against the me2 trailer at all

I like ME2's "Dirty Dozens" trailer better:

On that note, what is the song they used in this trailer?!! It's ME3 now and still no one can identify that song.

you mean the song in the dirty dozens trailer? i dunno, but they seem to really like two steps from hell a lot

oh, when can we expect the launch trailer then?

Most likely in one week. They usually put them out a week before the game is released, so the 28th or 1st.

Then again they released ME2's CGI trailer over a month before the games release, so maybe with ME3s late CGI showing theyll hold the launch trailer till the 3rd or 4th.

I think the Bioware negativity on Neogaf is getting annoying.

I've actually had an itch to play Dragon Age 2 again! But first The Witcher 2... 2 more times:D
