Please remove ability to detonate rockets and grenades in the air by shooting them. Nobody ever does it on purpose in a competitive environment. Do not like being screwed out of a kill.

Would buy update at a high price.

I really don't expect it to truly overcome the popularity of the military shooter, but I think if it can show what it is doing new, in an action packed and
dubstep
way I am sure it will get a few people talking. But seriously, I have hopes for the game, and assuming it will be a gameplay and visual spectacle I am sure the right type of trailer can attract the right crowd.

I really hope Halo 4 can find a good balance between gameplay, visuals and the occasional set pieces. Just as they emphasized they want MC to truly emulate an 800lb killing machine I hope they put the same amount of detail into weapons, explosions, effects, etc without hindering gameplay.

You heard the man, 343. Make the greatest game of all time, stat!

I actually love Frankie/David teases but after a six months media blackout you just get hyped for everything, even a Toy Fair (I'm not even gonna buy one of these figurines).

I'm sure I'll remember Halo 4 because of how awesome it'll be but also because of its shitty marketing campaign.

Sure, Frankie would just hop in here and say "it hasn't even started" or "there's much more to come" but for now it has been a complete FAILURE.
Shitty Marketing campaign? Can you show me Halo 4 marketing campaign? Oh it hasn't started yet. No. You just got hyped for everything. Some of HaloGAF didn't get hyped for the Toy Fair story I bet. I'm one of them.

Random semi-spoilerific Primordium question-

Were the glowing creatures in the lake a type of Engineer?
If so, Im would love to see that realized in the games in one way or another.
Because no one answered you yet. No,
It is a Proto-Gravemind. It glows in Halo: Anniversary now.

I always mean to.

Don't hate.

Hah, I figured it was a lost cause, thanks or the reply. Anyways, really? I need to
replay that portion again, I don't remember that. Anyways, in the book weren't they described as docile huge eerie but not ugly tentacles? I can't remember off hand. Anyways, damn.. I was looking forward to seeing giant engineers.

It's not random, it's player controlled. Just because no one means to do it, doesn't mean the intrinsic nature of the action changes.

Not much would be lost from its removal, though I think it's a nifty little feature. I personally would expand upon the feature so that people will be dissuaded from throwing out 'nades without heeding the fact they're being shot at, and it would give more reason for them to be so powerful considering they can blow up in your face if your opponent is prepared for it.

personally i want the random nade bounces from h3 back.

Those were fuckin awesome.

Throw a grenade forward logically it will bounce back at you dontcha know?

drop splitscreen, bots, firefight, campaign

60fps locked, far cry 2+ map editor, 18 maps, drop in drop out, ranged weapon starts, no armor abilities, improved movement speeds, more than 2 minutes a month devoted to matchmaking updates.

problem solved.

I actually wish this was the case... I love the campaign but I will only play it once or twice, multiplayer is the meal that keeps on giving.

Can it be official failing to get the overkill is no longer a choke but a tashi?

Who officializes this stuff? Boss Nasti?

I think you just did.

No, that's some Transporter level absurdity. Havok is right, people don't do that shit on purpose. I'd rather see it cut, too.
Yeah, I'm at like two or three. Not even going to bother with it.

I fire a rocket, the guy turns around and panic fires. The rocket blows up in my face and I die because he got incredibly lucky in his spam firing. I'd say that changes things.

The chance of him hitting that on purpose is so infinitesimal that it is practically random. Normally I'd agree that player-controlled mechanics are fine, but this doesn't really add any depth to the action, it just arbitrarily punishes players who use grenades (or whatever) well to even the playing field.

Now they just follow you around.

You fire the rocket and they guy has enough time to turn around and shoot it while it's near enough to you to kill you?

All kidding aside, I already conceded that taking it out wouldn't be an issue. I would just like to see the the idea expanded upon to promote smarter grenade use. Or at least make the function more interesting.

I know that when I throw objects at 45 degree inclines, they tend to go straight.

The second one is just Forge object having unnecessary divots.

So I quit a lot of games today between playing 2v4's and rage quitting and just now I lagged out and got my first quit ban. -_-

We have decided it was irrelevant.

Weep.

No.

Bots means AI working over async, which means no input lag for Firefight. If they elect to continue skipping having bots though, I have no problem keeping Perfect Dark at my #1. Multiplayer AI would work differently than Campaign AI though. I also imagine they'd only be able to play Slayer. Perfect Dark's bots can play objectives just fine, but baby steps! They can figure out CTF and Bomb bots for Halo 5.

If anyone is tooling around in matchmaking, I'd like to join up so I can work on the backbreaking weekly.

It was his very first shot and he was turning while I fired. Not a common occurrence, I'll say that much.

I do think it would be an interesting mechanic, just maybe not in this particular game. It seems like a really hard problem to solve, but at this point I'm so jaded against powerful grenades that I'm not sure I want them to experiment with it.

I should also probably not mischaracterize it - there are bigger problems and this is a very rare event, it's just so frustrating when it goes bad.

I will never understand how I can practically blain someone with a 3sk one encounter, shoot the same fucking way the next encounter and need more than a full clip.

What does this solve, really, in Halo? Humans are always preferable opponents in multiplayer. Does the niche time one wants to play test a map (which would have to be on a fundamental level, considering humans would work the map design differently) and has an insufficient amount of playtesters at their disposal really warrant programming bots into the game?

Grenades were the strongest they ever were in CE, aka, the Perfect Game (tm).

To clarify my stance, I want grenades to stay nukes. If you're not a player model's height away from the inception of the blast, you should die. Make them less fire and forget and more tactical, however. If the items were more expensive to get, and kept their power, people wouldn't throw them in vague directions upon spawning. I don't like how they're merely something to do when you're not shooting; at best a flushing mechanic. The ceiling of skillful use of the things are using them to dictate a hiding opponent's escape route.

Closer to Halo 4's release do you think it would be a good idea to have a separate, MP focused trailer for the mainstream/casual/competitive crowd? Personally I think it would help establish Halo as a shooter that is willing to compete against CoD's popularity. Obviously it isn't needed with those who frequent the forums, but I'm always amazed at how many people didn't realize Reach MP introduced the changes and played the way it did.

COD shows almost zero MP footage before each new game comes out and it is the most popular MP franchise around, so I don't really think you need to, at least not to establish competition with COD.

Bots wouldn't be everywhere in matchmaking, certainly not ranked. I just find it puzzling that this is supposed to be a AAA FPS, and after how many iterations, Gears has them, Black Ops had them.. they've been an obvious omission for quite a while now.

I certainly wouldn't expect them for Ranked play, but in certain social playlists, bots would be just fine. The significant portion of people that buy Halo titles to not play them online would appreciate them. I would appreciate them. The knock on effect of being able to use asynch networking in Firefight would mean Ghaleon doesn't have to rage at his melees taking 4 seconds to execute. Would bots in Halo negatively impact your experience in any way? If you don't like 'em, don't use them.

I'm glad bots aren't symbolic of a triple A game.

DIDO would be better.

Firefight.

You do argue reasonably for them, at least.

In social, they would. I'm usually one to adopt that stance on resource allocation; play what you like, no matter if what you like could be better if what you didn't like didn't exist. And I'll maintain that stance. When the game is released.

Until that glorious time, I can't condone bots, unless AI technology experiences an unprecedented leap in sophistication by this fall.

I get what your saying but would bots greatly impact your experience? I mean sure its going to be fun for 10 mins but you have firefight for AI VS, All the time and effort required to make bots seems like it could be spent working on something much more fundamental like maps or campaign/firefight. Forge even

In an ideal world id like bots but they are so so so far down my list of request that its not even worth thinking about they.

Having them in MM is going to cause a tonne of issues aswell, Easy kills for other team, Grabbing power weapons, Likely having very little concern for the player ect ect.
Sure you could solve them all but thats going to be alot of dev time for something so .. under used

I love people who are there to boot you for a betrayal but otherwise not playing the game. Tonight it just not my night to play.

Happened to me, OdyssusVA and 789Shadow tonight also. Fucking spire.

Although we weren't booted, and the idiot not doing anything except driving around and shooting his own team was.

It's amazing that some of the forge maps got into matchmaking. Frame rate issues abound, and not even when scoped in. 4v4 shouldn't cause any of those problems.

edit: And pretty much all of them are terrible.

True but its definitely not as bad, and I wouldn't exactly count the Forge ones because those are user made maps. There can be lips between pieces the grounds are made of and such. They get a off easy pass, developer made maps do not.

H3 grenades bounced perfectly fine.

It was the geometry that went overboard. Reach had the right idea with having the actual collision models of geometry be simple while maintaining a detailed look. By having stuff go through some of the fluff like cables and stuff.

H3 nades were perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Perhaps but the nades played too heavy off of minor not even visual geometry. Lots of nades getting stuck in walls instead of bouncing off lots of nades hitting flat surface but going backwards.

To name one instance thats entirely repeatable 100% go on Rats Nest the bottom doorway right before the flag room if you throw a nade towards the ground it bounces backwards. WTF is that shit? Flat cement surface and it bounces backwards.

Many more of these spots in H3 too while in Reach most nades bounce in predictable trajectories. You can hate the nades but they bounce much better overall.

they don't really bounce very much at all though.

Only got 3 clips tonight. No fucking overkills, 2 triples. Living up to my reputation I guess. lol And it's not like I'm choking on the overkills, they're just not there when I need them.

I was playing Halo Reach earlier with a game community I'm part of. However, for some reason when I logged on, every single person in matchmaking and otherwise is muted. I can't un-mute them, and my privacy settings on my Xbox and on xbox.com are all open or set to everyone. Any idea what's going on? I haven't played Reach on my account in weeks, and I usually don't even play with a mic, so I don't think it can be some sort of ban.

I was going to say mute ban, but I think it must be your voice settings in the guide.

Since I just realized MS probably wants minimal Bungie IP on Waypoint, there's more than likely going to be no way to unlock Recon anymore, which will make all the Vidmasters in Halo 3 pointless. Therefore, Halo 3 consolidation should go like this:

Ranked
Lone Wolves (achievements require it)
Team Slayer (achievements require it. Well, not slayer specifically, but MVP achievement)
Double Team (all DLC required)

Social
Social Slayer
Multi Team (all DLC required)
Big Team Battle (all DLC required)

I'm not going to even try to untangle all the playlists that Reach's DLC achievements lock into existence forever.
