New high score in Lumines, 81k lol! Dont make fun of me I'm new :(

After about a dozen failed attempts, I just now got near my high score only to fall a few K short because a skin change threw me off. Back to square one. :( Screw you, LCD Soundsystem.

Awesome game, probably my favorite of the launch.

Don't count on it. I think the main focus of PS Suite is to target the smartphone market with the option to develop for PSVita on the side. AFAIK they haven't even prepared for any VITA integration yet. Some of the features of the Vita such as the use of back touch panel are not even going to be available to PS Suite developers.

all PS Suite games should work on vita.
since PS Suite is for PS certified devices. Which includes sony tablets, phones, and the PS vita.

Damnit, I knew I should've picked up HSG instead of VT4 last night. Tried to exchange VT for it an hour ago but couldn't. Now I have to go back this week just to talk to a manager who can override and allow the exchange.

So final pick ups for the past two days:

Vita
16GB memory card
Lumines
VT4
$20 PSN card.

Was close to picking up a pouch and Hori protector but I want to make sure it's a full front one and not just the screen. I should have asked to open up the package instead of just walking out of the store.

Yep. Can't believe no big sales right now when so many new users willing to spend are out there.

It's because of the fact that in most places PSN is the ONLY place to get PSP games for the Vita, if there is no competition why lower the prices? Alot of people are going to buy the games at the inflated prices because they want to play the game on their new Vita. Chances are they will reduce the price somewhere down the line allowing the rest of the potential buyers to get the game. Win-win situation for the publishers as they got some people to buy at the expensive prices and later on they got the rest of the people to buy at the lower price.

However if the game is popular the price will likely never really go down as the publishers reckon people will eventually cave in and buy it anyways since there is no other retailer to pressure them to reduce prices. That is the major problem with closed distribution platforms like PSN, no competition means that the publishers get greedy.

This is untrue, as a developer you have the option to target specific platforms for deployment. It is true that in the future you will be able to target the Vita as a platform but at the moment that option is not there.

Suite's a single platform/codepath. Vita isn't an optional thing to support, it's just another device that runs suite software. It'll run all suite apps and games.

Sat down for an hour to get all the trophies in Welcome Park, once I realized it had some.
... Reminded me once again how much I absolutely hate slide puzzles.

Sony really needs to have some firmware updates in place for whenever a big multiplayer title comes out on the system.

The OS is a great first step, but there are some hugely nagging issues that prevent it from being as seamless as it needs to be.

First, no game should ever FORCE you to turn off the Playstation Network. It should be an option in the settings menu, and it should be turned to OFF by default.

Secondly, the Friends/Party/Messaging system needs to be integrated into one application. Friends list will show if you have any new messages, click on their name and it will take you to the message history you have with that friend. In another tab within this app, it should take you to the party system. Having these social functions divided makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

And last, but perhaps most importantly -- FIX how the friends system handles signing in/out to playstation network. I should only have to sign in once and not deal with the list having to refresh EVERY goddamn time. For people with nearly 100 friends, it takes ages, and it happens EVERY time you open the damn app! Ridiculous.

Not to mention having to wait like 5 seconds to "sign in" before you can view your list.

Also, when someone hops online, I should be able to click on the message window that appears and it should take me directly to the friends list (or at least have the option of this functionality).

It would also be nice if your Vita was in standbye and you have a 'text message' -esque ringtone whenever someone invites you to a game.

Ugh. The UI is so great and has so much potential, but it is hurt badly by these poorly implemented features. I love everything else about it, hopefully it's something that can be fixed before a big blockbuster game like Call of Duty comes out, because this will be pivotal.

sony and other companies could make a killing on PSP DD but games that are $30/$40 aren't happening. i'll go as high as $20 (well... ok $22 that i paid for VC2) but anything more won't happen.

hopefully they have sales at some point or setup a monthly discount sales because there are literally 10-20 games i would buy if they were a bit cheaper

IMHO, a lot of niche titles will not be profitable at $20 and below, especially JRPGs.

PSSuite will allow developers to target specific devices. It is true that the code will run across all platforms due to the fact that all PS Suite devices will be running the same VM but you will be able to tailor make you apps to target a specific device and you will be able to block it running on certain devices as well. This is sort of like how Apple IOS apps work in that some work only on ipad and not on the iphone.

It's crazy that the 3DS online setup is actually a bit better.
It's always online, even in sleep if you want. And friends list is always instantly available.

So when I play Uncharted and it tells me networking has been disabled, does it actually sign me out of PSN to my friends? I don't understand why the hell they would do that if its true...

I thought I would get them all but when I got to the puzzle sliders I just gave up. I have never been good at them and don't plan on wasting my time trying to finish it.

It's turns off all wireless, so no home wifi, or 3G.
What's dumb is that in other situations you can still be connected to your home wifi, but NOT on PSN.

That's what he's talking about and I agree it's really irksome.

So it effectively logs you out of PSN on certain games. That is fucking stupid. Is this for all of them? I only know of Uncharted.

Back touch in Fifa is fucking awesome. I suck at the game so far (never played Fifa before), but its extremely satisfying to target your shots with the back touch. Good stuff.

Even in Hot Shots when you start the AR stuff with the character viewer, the game automatically disables the network. That's not a huge deal breaker to me but the messaging not being a push notification is a crime to modern OS design.

It seems contrary to what they are marketing and how they are portraying the Vita to begin with. They market the Vita as a mobile gaming device but it is kind of weird for it to log you out whenever you are playing certain games. Like someone said before, it is strange for Nintendo to have the 3DS be consistant on this and not the Vita. Hopefully it is something that changes with an update in the future, if it is possible.

yep, seems they squeaked out battery by severely limiting network outside of games. the fact that they don't give an option suggests to me that the actual hardware is not ready to perform as conceived. i like the vita but there are some things about it that are a disaster

I would rather have the XMB back than the Vita's current OS.

that may be, but that's an indication of how poor the interface for the Vita is.

but specific to the original post, there's nothing classy, sleek,. or intuitive about the XMB. it's pretty much a turd.

here's hoping Sony transfers their UI stuff out of Japan and into the US sometime pre-PS4.

Is there a way to open the PS3 through remote play with the VITA or I have to open the PS3 myself and set it to Remote Play?

Also, I tried Silent Hill on Remote Play and there were some hiccups, is that normal?

Sony should have enabled the rear touch pad as an optional control method for the browser. It would be nice to do gestures with it or use it as a track pad.

(on PS3) go to Settings -> Remote Play Settings and enable Remote Start.
Then you can simply leave your PS3 in standby and your Vita can start it up, directly into remote play mode.

I'm in love with the Vita OS <3 I'm tired of the XMB, although an amazing OS, it's kinda clunky and feels a bad in some aspects. Vita OS is one of the best I've ever seen, except the whole "Please Wait" crap and not being able to press the notification bubbles and getting me there. Sometimes I do it by mistake, still do.

Is anyone getting errors when trying to log in to gaf on the vita?

im writing my password correctly so i dont get it.

Did you press Enter on the virtual keyboard after entering your password? Instead of doing that, try clicking the Login button. That fixed the same problem I had.

It has become slight bloated but, even so, I have to disagree. I mean not intuitive??

I haven't used a great deal of touch screens so I'll hold fire on the Vita until I've tried it. I posted earlier that the earliest I could go and pick it up from home was 5 weeks away. Miscalculation... it's actually 9 weeks. Shit-on-a-stick.
