Sony really needs to have some firmware updates in place for whenever a big multiplayer title comes out on the system.
The OS is a great first step, but there are some hugely nagging issues that prevent it from being as seamless as it needs to be.
First, no game should ever FORCE you to turn off the Playstation Network. It should be an option in the settings menu, and it should be turned to OFF by default.
Secondly, the Friends/Party/Messaging system needs to be integrated into one application. Friends list will show if you have any new messages, click on their name and it will take you to the message history you have with that friend. In another tab within this app, it should take you to the party system. Having these social functions divided makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
And last, but perhaps most importantly -- FIX how the friends system handles signing in/out to playstation network. I should only have to sign in once and not deal with the list having to refresh EVERY goddamn time. For people with nearly 100 friends, it takes ages, and it happens EVERY time you open the damn app! Ridiculous.
Not to mention having to wait like 5 seconds to "sign in" before you can view your list.
Also, when someone hops online, I should be able to click on the message window that appears and it should take me directly to the friends list (or at least have the option of this functionality).
It would also be nice if your Vita was in standbye and you have a 'text message' -esque ringtone whenever someone invites you to a game.
Ugh. The UI is so great and has so much potential, but it is hurt badly by these poorly implemented features. I love everything else about it, hopefully it's something that can be fixed before a big blockbuster game like Call of Duty comes out, because this will be pivotal.
