So sexism made its way into my Halo shit too. I'm taking a break from GAF after I post this write up. I can't with the bullshit much longer.

:(

Wraparound (Forerunner) and Warhouse (Human), pretty meh names but they look awesome (especially Wraparound!)

I'm totally cool with Sprint. I loved Sprint in Reach but I also loved Reach without Sprint so I'm happy either way. I loved what Sprint did for map movement and figuring new jumps and I expect the same for Halo 4. The map exploration with Sprint is making me giddy. Now, let's just hope I don't have to get rid of Sprint so that I can do some other abilities. Unless it's to double jump! I still think Double Jumping would be bad ass and I would love to try it out in a Halo game.
I love how Sprint effects map traversal, too, but I hate what it does for actual combat. It makes it way too easy to run away from / run into a firefight. If this can somehow be balanced, than I'd love it.

:-( I don't blame you. It'll suck to see you leave, even if just temporarily, but if that's what you need to do to cope with this bullshit, then totally do it.

Played some Reach for the first time in a while. Forgot how fun the game could be. The reason I quito playing it is becouse it bored me pretty fast. I hope Halo 4 lasts longer.

I think things have calmed down a bit to post my reaction to the news.

Positives:
1. The BR is back. Kind of like how I didn't appreciate what Halo 3's campaign did right until after Reach's release, I didn't realize how much I missed the BR until it was gone. Glad it's back.
2. Jump height seems back to 2/3 levels, if not a little higher. Strafing is back too. Base movement speed looks pretty fast.
3. Bloom looks gone, but I'm holding on to the party streamers until we get confirmation.
4. I like the overall look to the mutiplayer. It all gels well. Then again, I don't think Halo games need to breach some sort of technical level for me to play it.
5. Seemingly no dual-wielding.

Negatives:
1. Sprint is back. I've discussed it at length here. To summarize: In its current Reach-ish form, Sprint causes more problems than it solves.
2. I swear I saw something that looks like a jetpack in the "Making of" video.
3. Side-by-side, I don't think the new armor looks better than the Mark VI. It does look better now that I've seen it within the game (kind of), but I'm still iffy on it. However, less so than I was yesterday.
4. It's a stupid thing to complain about, but the names of the maps could be better. Give me something like "Epitaph" and not "Wraparound."

Worries:
1. The story reason(s) for blue Spartans fighting red Spartans is contrived and messy when it's not needed. Think nanomachines to justify the change in the MC's armor.
2. The perk system rumor. Now, we don't know anything, and I can't definitely comment on it either way, but the idea of it does have me worried. See my earlier post about adding too many variables. If you're not going to commit the resources to tailor all the new abilities on a per map and gametype basis, it shouldn't be done.
3. If jetpack is back, does that mean fall damage has returned?
4. Frankie has said that the BR is not a replacement for single-shot weapons like the DMR. Here's hoping that whatever one-shot weapons are introduced, they don't have a 3x scope and instead have the traditional 2x. It's been discussed why 3x scope is detrimental to the gameplay.
5. This may sound stupid, but I hope 343's desire to put out a good-looking game doesn't come at the expense of big encounters in the campaign. I'm not a tech expert, but I think I heard from Bungie and others that one of the reasons that Halo 3 looked the way it did was so Bungie could deliver on the big battles. Can the Xbox handle a battle the size of the one outside the Cartographer on "The Ark" at 1280x720p with AA at a rock-solid 30 FPS? Can one of you GAFFers more knowledgeable help me out here? Of course, this could be a non-factor as 343 may not want battles as large as Halo 3.

Again, mixed reactions. Anybody who has any issue or thinks I've missed something, speak up. Laying it all out, most of my "problems" are coming from unknown factors. Hope we get those cleared up soon. I'm eager to learn more.

Edit: Frankie on "perks" in the game – http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=35756374&postcount=1032

I would LOVE to have a single-shot rifle along with the return of the BR. Maybe weapon loadouts will let you pick between a combination of starting weapons, like DMR/AR, or BR/Pistol, or DMR/BR, each with their own role with the sandbox (AR and pistol = short range, DMR = longer range, BR = mid-range).

Also Dax, what if using sprint was only possible with a particular armor config, one that allowed you to move faster, maybe jump higher as well, but had much weaker armor and lower base health? If the rushing sprinter had less health to chew through on the way to that first melee, would it even out?

It's hard to say without gameplay videos and testing it out. As it stands, I don't like Sprint in its current form.

My only worry from what I've seen today was "perks" but thankfully Frankie has cleared that up. Why do gaming journalists have to be so ignorant?

I'd actually prefer if it were an upgraded Needle Rifle.

IMO, the functionality of the Carbine and the BR are too similar. I liked that the Needle Rifle operated differently from the DMR and offered a secondary way to kill - if you can't track the other guy's head well enough for that final shot, hammer the trigger and super-combine him.

The extra time needed to kill that way with the NR balanced out against the extra accuracy needed to land that final headshot with the DMR.

So satisfying. It was a much more distinctive and cool weapon IMO.

Agreed entirely.

Ehh, 343 shouldn't of described them as perks. They had to of known the shit storm that would trigger. And then to not give any solid info on what those perks/whatever look like and how they function... Not a good idea.

Edit : Totally agree about the Nerfle being more interesting than the Carbine.

I don't think 343 did describe them as perks. As far as I can tell, Eurogamer just used that word to generate attention.

What do you guys think? The contour seems to match the Needle Rifle, but the color on the barrel seems to match the carbine. Looks like it's being held like a needle rifle, too. Or it could just be a new weapon entirely, lol.

Probably super late to the party, but did anyone else notice the "Grenadier" text at 1:59? (It's in the upper-left hand corner.)

And what looks like the Halo 4 main menu in the upper-right hand corner at 2:02.

Purplish-looking weapon at 2:11.

Late to the party with Grenadier.

2:11 looks like a sniper to me.

EDIT: Looks like I'm late to the party, that does look like a purple rifle.

Just realized something. Was there a lack of female Spartans in the footage? I didn't see any at all.. Then again, maybe they aren't finished modeling/animating the female variants yet.

Or they're sticking to the whole female and male Spartans are indistinguishable in their armor thing.

Huh, I watched through the videos I saw earlier, and I guess you're right! Thanks for correcting me.

The Spartan crouch walking backwards here looks like it could be a lady Spartan.

With this being the last page of this OT, I'm impressed by 343's marketing. I was skeptical of delaying it, but today was pretty awesome. Nice work 343i. Nice work.
