Information about their next generation console for their most loyal of fans it seems.

To be honest, it's good enough for me if Nintendo can make it a success and bring us Mario and Zelda and co with that kind of graphical power.

Saw it. Looks like current-gen with maybe a little better image quality? Not bad, but definitely not mind-blowing.

Well using the exact same video footage from the trailers is going to do that. And even then, it's the PC version they're showing coupled with tons of video artifacts that plagued the whole video anyway.

It's been a while since I've seen a real console trailer from a Multiplatform game. All they do nowadays is using the PC version and slapping the respective button prompts in there.

Also, wasn't it pretty much clear that with even the highest estimates of power, the WiiU would basically be able to run current games with much higher IQ, higher res and better textures?
Isn't that footage from E3 last year? I'm pretty sure it wasn't actual WiiU footage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUCs5ayFCww&feature=player_detailpage#t=107s

It wasn't. It's the PC version with console button prompts added in. They've shown the exact same footage now for over a year, frame to frame identical but with different prompts and varying levels of video compression.

So far the only "real" confirmed games we've seen running on anything "close" to resemble the WiiU were GR:O and Killer Freaks, and both were not really indicative of what we can expect (outside of tablet integration) from the WiiU graphically.

So since GDC is almost over our next solar station is Nintendo direct in April, if a black hole takes over the Nintendo direct then we'll change course directly to E3.
Thank you for choosing American Solar Railroad Airlines.

Were not even sure if this is really Wii U footage. Don't jump to conclusion.

We don't want a repeat of what happened with the footage showed in that third party reel at E3 now, do we?

Yes. I remain optimistic. But it honestly wouldn't suprise me at all if the graphics looked like this. :/

I really find it weird we haven't gotten news. :/ Past few years Nintendo ALWAYS provide something. Last year was Skyward Sword trailer (after a long drought of no news), before was Super Mario Galaxy 2 I think? They also had a Spirit Tracks trailer one year.

You'd think, at least, they'd do something like that again.

E3 predictions:

-sales age. First five minutes dedicated to 3DS sales and market growth yadda yadda.
-Two new 3DS games and one new upcoming system feature
-some Wii game. I can just feel it.
-Wii U's "real" unveiling! Shows off the final system and some games in a 2.5 minute trailer. Very similar to last year's, but updated to reflect current games/system features
-Discussion of what the system can do. Virtual console, Nintendo Network, controller capabilities, extra features
-Announcement and trailers for several 1st and 3rd party games.
-On stage demonstration of two different games. One 1st party and one 3rd party. (one, then the other... not at the same time just to be clear)
-Announcement of release date and price: October 14th, $329.99
-Super Smash Bros 4 gets an official name/logo, and Mario/Zelda/Kirby are shown running on Wii U in-game!
-boxes checked

Predictions of what games will be there:
-Excite Truck 2!
-Retro's new project: Donkey Kong Country Returns 2
-Everything from last year
-Assassin's Creed 3
-Dragon Quest X
-Super Mario Bros. Mii, looking different from last year. Pack-in game.
-some of the tech demos from last year will be built into the console and can be deleted/redownloaded for free from the new eShop.
-Pikmin 3
-A new IP from a 3rd party. A "core" title.
-Madden '12
-F-Zero!

This is the wrong way to hype a system. You can't announce something over a year in advance to its ship date. Let the pipeline dry up a bit, and just before people get antsy about what's going on, you announce your new system 9 months ahead of time max.

The Wii had no problems with that and this thread never leaves the front page. They're doing something right.

No, there's no real overlap between the UE3 sizzle reel cuts and that sizzle reel's cuts.

From the looks of things the UE3 cuts are related to this trailer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjY7yFMEk-c

Looks like Gearbox gave Epic the raw footage they used to make that trailer and Epic took their own cuts from it.

Brawl had only been in development for a few months before it's first trailer and iirc TP's first trailer came out 2 months after they decided to make it look "realistic" and not like WW. In fact, Brawls trailer showed a whole lot of nothing when you look at it again. Pit and MK are the only non-vets to fight on screen where as every other newcomer was cinematic.

Taking a few new comers designs, updating the designs of a few vets and making a cinematic trailer is by no means too much to expect. Besides, it's one of those things I think Nintendo would like to show off asap.

Having headless chickens running around (in circles) after every small mention of 'Wii U' for an entire year is doing something right?
Yes, yes it is. I love this thread :p

In that case I may have to eat my words, considering the Zelda and bird demos were whipped up fast. And TP and Brawl.

I seriously can't deal with this grasping at straws crap. GDC has been a total disappointment, not even just for WiiU news, either. The only 3 awesome things I got from it was:

1) the homeless guy who managed to invade an Edge interview with Suda 51 and went sitting there unopposed for 10 MINUTES

2) a reminder why I value Nintendo's game creation above others

3) This very sharp assessment of the issues of women in the games industry and why current attempts at inclusion fail

That's pretty much it so far. Overall...

Worst. GDC. EVER.

I reached that point some time ago. At some point, the excuses get old. Thank goodness, I love old games, and I love re-visiting them from time to time. Since there's a 25+ years library available, there's no shortage of good gaming to be had.

I kinda wonder who that developer was.

There's something in the back of my mind bugging me: that guy who bad-mouthed all of Japan's developers? He was applauded. And I suspect that there are others who embrace this "west-rules, east-drools" mentality - but they had the mental & social awareness to not applaud this out in public.

Judging from the reaction thread, there's a sizeable percentage of the gaming population that likes this sentiment. So I wonder honestly if some image-cultivating developers, wanting to appeal to their audiences, just don't want to be associated with Nintendo. And so, instead of "Nintendo sucks" headliner-type quotes, we see the more diplomatic, "but.. it's Nintendo." Then, their fans get to laugh when BigTitle13 is announced for PS360/PC/NokiaCellphones, and more street cred is earned. We've all seen the reaction when a decent game is announced for the Wii by a third party: it should've been on those consoles..

"But what about Sony?" you'll ask.

Sony, unlike Nintendo, seems to have succeeded in cultivating a cross-cultural identitiy among many consumers. I can see marketing folks grouping them with Ford, Coca-Cola, etc. They've broken out of that Japanese-y mold. Nintendo, in contrast, sometimes revels in its cultural identity.. check-out the "Wii Would Like to Play" commercials for one good instance. Sony seems to have western tastes in its sights, again, in contrast with Nintendo.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, just aloud, and here on the forum. The dots are there (I think?), but connecting them into a cohesive treatise is difficult for me right now.

I'm sure some devs view it as an "image" thing, but at the end of the day all any of them care about is money so if a game launching on all consoles makes them more money they'll do it.

Nintendo has no ninjas. 3rd parties aren't leaking anything because they aren't working on anything worth mentioning. Nintendo isn't mentioning any games because they aren't working on anything coming out within the next 2 years. 01net has stopped leaking things because they don't want to depress people with the horrible news they've uncovered.

It's over guys. It's all over.

It's over, it's over, TKO!

Ok I know that it was talked about MoH: Warfighter and that it will be comeing to Wii U

Now, is the statement that the game will be released on October, 23rd for PC, PS3, X360 and WiiU a hint that it will be the consoles release date or will it be released prior to that??

Quote from the article:
"Medal of Honor: Warfighter" erscheint am 23. Oktober für PC, PS3, Xbox 360 und Wii U.

I'm not so sure if it will be released simultaneously with the other versions, but if so: remember that Assassins Creed 3 is going to be released on the October, 31.

Again, if those games will be released on all platforms the same time, then we could see Wii U before Christmas. Maybe September?

what are we basing our analog needs on other than preference? that is what the classic controller is for

I doubt the CCP will sork with all Wii U games though, it will likely work with only a select amount like it did with the Wii. I myself don't mind circle pads but saying "if circle pads are a deal breaker just use the CCP", probaly won't work because I bet the CCP will only work on a certain percentage of games like it did with the Wii. It would be awesome though if because the Wii U tablet is more like a traditional controller the CCP would work with all Wii U games, but I doubt it.

CCP is just an addon which not everybody has at home, though. Nintendo can't rely on that.

I don't think that 3DS-WiiU connectivity will play an huge role. Yes, I read what Nintendo said about that, but I don't think that there will be a game which makes something huge out of it.

Super Smash Bros? Then again, we know next to nothing about it.
