Test Drive: Ferrari Announced

wonderful, been waiting for some new media on this, particularly since that first leaked trailer was said not to be representative of where it was currently at

the pgr garage-esque menus are slick as hell!

game looks great, hope the physics are a step up (ai was pretty terrific in nfs shift IMO)

Definitely love those garage spaces!

More racing games need to push nice garage spaces and/or photo locations. I loved the multiple garages in PGR3/4 and the photo locations in GT5.

WAT?!
No other game has made me work so hard for a podium than SHIFT has. Awesome racing action...

yup, the ai in shift, particularly 2, is downright awesome compared to every other racer i've ever played. GT and FM cant hold a candle to it and it blows me away when people knock it.

-you can actually race within a huge pack of cars so long as you respect their lines - as it should be!

-they make realistic mistakes from time to time.

-they seem to react to collisions as the player car does.

Curious about this game but all the SHIFT comparisons have got me worried.

watching the gameplay, its obviously based on that code base to some extent. its always been rumored that EA had a heavy hand with how the shift series felt and that it wasnt too "sim", so i'm hopeful that they were able to make the game how they saw fit this time around.

That's looking very good. However (this really bugs me!) I cannot stand the 'looking out of the corner' head animation on the internal view. Why can't it be like CPR way back in the day :-/

it may be like shift 2 in which there is a helmet cam with that feature, and a cockpit cam without. i for one LOVED shift 2's helmet cam once i adjusted to it, but i can definitely understand it may not be for everyone

The problem with the "helmet cam" is that experienced racers (such as myself) already do the "look into the apex" thing almost by second nature, so it moves when you DON'T want it to move.

depending on the corner, you cant look into the apex with a standard camera. i agree that shift 2's helmet cam's timing isnt perfect (nor could it be, individual prefrences and all), but for me its still better then a static forward view.

havent gotten a chance to try anything with actual head tracking, but i imagine that would be the best solution once adapted.

I don't know a single corner where this is true unless you can't see it due to elevation change, in which case, helmet cam won't help either.

so I would expect that SMS would use MLAA again for the PS3 version, like they did for Shift 2.....riiiiiight? or does EA own that engine code?

we're about two weeks out!

though, i hate to admit, i've recently tried to go back to shift 2 after playing fm4 since last october - and holly hell is it tough to adjust to their handling model. really hope there is a demo for this, as i'm not sure i can get into the game if it controls like shift.

Two weeks out? Last I read this got pushed to the end of June.

I've recently gone back to Shift 2 as well. You're not kidding, it does take some adjusting. I'm still tuning and tweaking (after already doing that when I went through it at release), but you get used to it after a bit. It is different after playing games like Forza and Race Pro though.
But it sure scratches that GT1/GT3 itch after watching the first few rounds, and love that track list.

I'm still looking forward to this game, even if it'll handle similar to Shift. I hope they iron out some of the sliding, and I'm bummed about the no tuning, but they'll still have the control settings options. Adjusting the steering and speed steering sensitivity makes a huge difference.

Completely different teams.

But still published by Atari. Maybe that's what he meant. But yeah, people still don't realize this SMS. On other forums, people claiming it's from a different Dev (Blimey), not associated with SMS. But the recent Suzy Wallce of SMS interview should clear that up.

amazon says may 15th...

Next week, maybe?

A recent interview with Suzy W has it coming on May 15th. Amazon still says May 15th, Gamestop says June, Best Buy recently pushed this back to July on their site. Maybe Atari has other plans.

Hopefully we get confirmation on MWD soon as to when this is coming out.

Can't wait to do some F430 Challenge races!

Anyone know details on the length/exclusivity if any of the license?

It looks solid, but still has that checklist feel all the current simmish racers have.

I got an email from Amazon that it has been delayed to July 9th

Damn. I ordered the game off of Amazon, and added in a couple of other things (House of the Dead: Overkill and some blank PS3 game cases). I grouped them into as few shipments as possible, and I figured that they would ship the latter two now and TD Ferrari when it comes out.

Nope. It's all shipping at the same time, so I'm not getting anything until TD Ferrari comes out.

I don't think I can change it now, can I?

usually even if you do that, they will ship it as it becomes available.. maybe is different for prime.. you should be able to change it, or just cancel the order and remake it
