you forgot: if nintendo drops the ballAside from showing new consoles, how could Sony or Microsoft even steal Nintendo's Zapdos level thunder at this e3?
Kinect 2? boring... GoW4? Ok, I guess.

And my condolences in advance to anyone trying to get into Nintendo's booth this year based on this video.

I'm probably being dense.. what do you mean by "streaming capabilities?"
Streaming online? I could see that, especially if Nintendo thinks it would sell more games. Imagine your buddy playing a game you're on the fence over, and he offers to let you watch him play.. that feature could come in handy. It'd be like YouTube's Let's Play videos, but accessed via console.
Streaming to the controller? In some cases where the uPad's controller functions aren't absolutely essential to the game's mechanics, I could see the game being put on the controller-only. I could also see Virtual Console titles sent to the controller; in fact, I'll be disappointed if this isn't made a feature. Being able to play A Link to the Past, for example, while watching a football game sounds fantastic.
For some reason, I don't trust statements saying that there won't be new competing consoles this year, especially in Microsoft's case. My suspicion is that they want folks going to their show thinking, "welp, no new system this year. Probably just a few Kinect games, a few tokens thrown to the hardcore faithful, wrap it up with a Halo 4 preview, and that'll be it. Snore."
The public has never been allowed into E3. You've always had to had proof of industry afiliation or proof you were a member of the media. They just got more and more strict as the years went on (and there were two years where E3 wasn't really E3, and was invite-only even for game companies). And while it may seem like they are unprofessional, the reality is it doesn't take long for the lines for those things to get longer than they can get through in a day. Meaning if you don't get in line quick, you can never get a hands-on report with the new hardware, or if you're lucky you can spend all day in line, not able to cover anything else. So many media people (and a few developers) lose their professionality so they can do their job.Did they let the public back into E3? I try not to judge but so many of those people look like rabbid fanboys who made a cheap website just so they could get in.
Yeah.. Microsoft never does a horrible conference (think: Sony 2006, Nintendo 2003), but it's been a while since I've seen them have a knockout one.Well the thing is, Microsoft has done more or less exactly that for the past 2 E3 showings. Nintendo on the other hand tends to alternate between one shitfest conference and two pretty damn awesome conferences in a row.
2006 - Wii's real debut, pretty much their most successful E3 ever
2007 - Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii, Galaxy
2008 - Oh GOD someone kill cammie, ravi drums nightmare and wii music
2009 - Wii Sports Resort, Galaxy 2, NSMBWii, Other M
2010 - 3DS awesomefest, 007, DKCR, Skyward Sword, Kirby, etc
2011 - snore fest and botched wii u reveal
So whether MS continues their previous trend of shitty conferences or if they're going to buck the trend is up in the air, but like I said, their last two E3s have been pretty mediocre. I really hope nintendo follows their pattern though and makes 2012 awesome. I can stand to sacrifice 1 out of every 3 E3s for the hype and payoff
I don't think Microsoft would straight out lie. They may announce their big thing a couple months *after* E3, but I'd bet a month ban Microsoft doesn't announce their next game system during the week of E3, not after telling the media that they weren't going to discuss any new hardware at E3.
At the very least, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Elebits were there in addition to the Ubisoft games.Ubisoft did. All the rest were held til TGS. I honestly can't recall ANY talk about 3rd-party demos at E3 2006. And that's a problem worth avoiding, if Nintendo plans this right.
This E3's going to be spectacular no matter what happens. We're going to lose our tiny little minds.

I'm pretty sure all those 2007 games you listed were at 2006.
Can 2012 top it?!
I don't think MK Wii was, and Brawl was barely a game in 2006. Galaxy and MP3 weren't released until after E3 2007 iirc. That conference had also had Mario Strikers Charged and phantom hourglass, as well as wii fit (though most gaffers couldn't foresee how significant that would be).
Was a pretty solid E3, imo.
I think their 2010 conference was pretty ballin too and only plays second fiddle to the awesomeness that was 2006.
The internet ruined what would have probably been the biggest announcement of my life.
All I want for Christmas is a revamped version of the never-released Hi-Ten Bomberman for Wii U.
Come on Huds, I mean Konami. Make it happen. I'd pay one hundred ninety nine dollars for this shit.
This will cause a huge divide in the gaming population that many predicted would happen with the appearance of the original Xbox, as Japanese gaming will see a surge of activity that puts them back in line with their former glory days and closely rivals Western output. This is what happens when Japan's development community finally bets on a winning horse again in the console arena.
Agreed.
I usually don't tell my co-workers or family why I'm taking off of work when it's for gaming reasons, but I decided to come clean this week about why I only work 2 days during E3 week. They looked at me a bit funny for a while. I might regret that later.
I'm still debating about what to tell them for the entire week taken off at Launch. At my old job, I'd tell them that I was visiting friends in the tiny town of Hyrule. They never figured it out.
i can't help but feel that the levels of fantasy are starting to get a little out of control!
It's like we're back at the Wii launch period again.
If the Wii U is to succeed it needs -global- support, Nintendo need to heavily court western developers. If it's "Japanese Dev's To The Rescue!" you might as well start writting the eulogy now. :/
Hmmm... Zelda (Got a remake), Star Fox (Got a remake), Donkey Kong (incoming remake?).

Heck yes, this was amazing. Maybe the first ever high def multiplayer video game and this was way back in 1993. Was runnIng on some kind of custom PCE/pre-PCFX hardware. According to one of the posters under the video, it wasn't a plasma but a type of "16:9 CRT capable of wide format mid-res." According to another poster, it was mainly offered to government and hospital related venues and went for a whopping 40,000 dollars. Imagine this on the Wii U shop and including some kind of sweet pad/streaming support.
That's certainly a matter of opinion. I'm looking at my game shelf and don't see a single Western-made title on it with the (debatable) exception of Punch-Out, unless you count Ready At Dawn's Okami port.
We make statements about what it "needs", but we base that on the industry as it exists now. As seen over and over again, things change in a big hurry.
We went from a generation of Japanese 3rd party dominance to "LOLJapan" in what felt like a NANOSECOND. Do you think that it can't switch back just as easily if the proper conditions are met?
And also, as I said, I still expect Western multi-plat games, but I expect a lot of Western devs and their "LOLNintendo" attitude to get in the way of a number of games from Western devs hitting it. Not all, but a big enough portion to cause an East-West gaming schism.
There were two versions of Hi-Ten Bomberman, 1 in 1993 (Hi-Ten Bomberman) and 1 in 1994 (Hi-Ten Chara Bomb). The later version had Bonk as a playable character. It's been reported on assemblergames.com that it was running on a custom version of a standard Japanese computer (and NEC PC) plus two CoreGrafx II systems for input, plus some fancy HD converter stuff. Then also, it's been reported that a later version ran on the 1992 NEC-Hudson 32-Bit system, IronMan aja Project Tetsujin aka HuC62. See my thread on that subject
So maybe the fact that there were 2 different versions of Hi-Ten in 1993 and 1994, that the later version with Bonk was running on Tetsujin/IronMan/HuC64.
Nintendo need to sway people to give more than token "port" efforts. They need more.
I'm not so certain that Wii U can restore japanese devs to their market dominance of yore, but I can definitely see lines being drawn. Wii U could end up ruling the East. The xbox brand sure as hell never will.
Is there any way for nintendo to fully take the west in a post-microsoft world? Would solely getting western support plus having Nintendo's catalog be enough? I mean, it should be, but I don't know.

At this point it seems like an impossibility unless they throw money around left and right. Nintendo's name is too damaged in western developer circles. The Wii -needs- both West and East though - Nintendo need to sway people to give more than token "port" efforts. They need more.
This sounds like me.Your comments have prompted me to open-up my treasure chest and take a peek at developers' names.
Let's see.. I honestly have never taken a long look at my collection when considering this.
{I'm looking}...
About 80% of the games I own are from the east. Rayman Raving Rabbids, Red Steel, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and Manhunt 2 are my western games from the last two gens.
Of these, Beyond Good & Evil was the only one that ever captured this gamer's heart.
Looking at my eastern-developed titles, many of them have grabbed me by the balls.
I also play and adore one other major western series regularly.. but will only ever play it on the PC: Elder Scrolls. To me, a console version would be cheesy. (well that, and I love playing with mods)
So it looks like an eastern-dominated console library wouldn't hurt me personally too much.
And if Japanese developers went all-in on the Nintendo machine, got their comfort and competence levels up with that hardware, had Nintendo supporting them along the way, etc.. I suspect that it would be a very beneficial relationship for both Nintendo and those developers. This would possibly mean increased sales in all regions: there are tons of gamers here who love eastern games, and being able to go to one console would mean big things for Nintendo.
It's been my not-often-stated belief that eastern developers would at some point end-up settling on one horse in this race. Nintendo's overtures of support and good will, their good relationships repaired over the past decade, the positive feelings bleeding-over from success in the portable space, Sony's comparative shift of focus from being Japan-centric to more non-centric or even a bit westernized, etc etc.. given all of this, I am not shockedifwhen Nintendo consolidates domination of Japan's gamers, developers, and mindshare.
It certainly won't break my heart. Nintendo could have the east, Microsoft could have all of those PC developers that they brought over from PCs, and Sony would occupy a comfy niche, with their "incredible" stable of first-party IPs helping them along. I think this kind of future looks very possible.
This sounds like me.
Except replace Bethesda with Bioware. I'm comfy playing their console oriented games on consoles though.
Man, I even warned Cookychan about tempting fate with mods. But he was all "meh whatever, I'll hit my 3 month mark in ten days anyway." That was on the 14th! Man, really! Sheesh. We miss you Cookychan!
And EloquentM is banned too? Why are this thread's regulars dropping like flies? Are we forbidden from posting elsewhere?

The Wii U versions are going to look seriously gimped if they target X720/PS4 and downport.... alternatively they support X720, PS3, and Wii U and have all the cake _and_ eat it.
I don't see any 3rd parties going exclusive to any one. Those days are largely over without a very large cash fez

It's going to be the equivalent of "doesn't matter, had sex"
