Videogame facts that blow your mind (SuperMarioBros. SHOCKING SECRET INSIDE p #70)

Super Mario Bros 3's World 3 Map music is Zelda's Fairy Fountain theme.
It's not really. Both just operate on chord progressions. The first 8 notes of the World 3 theme match with the base notes of the first 8 notes of Fairy Fountain, but the next 8 notes of World 3 don't match up at all.

It's coincidence and the last time this exact comparison was made, it triggered a quite long argument in the thread about what music is actually similar to other music. Hopefully we don't get that again.

Well this may be obvious but whatever. The song that plays during peach's final smash in brawl slowed down is mario bros 3 world 5 theme while in the sky.

It's also been posted before, but yeah, that's one of the cool ones like the Gamecube Menu and Boo's laugh for speeding up/slowing down stuff.

Sounds about right. A year at the most is what I'd say.

I would also say to stop being so psycho about spoilers.

I never understand why people get so uptight about spoilers anyway. Like this BSG thing, you're not watching the show for the writing, the acting, the plot, or any other reason besides just to see the twist at the end? If the show/ movie/ game/ book is worth your time hopefully it has more going for it than just the ending.

If you want to post a secret, but dont know if its been posted already, check the blog.

There´s more than 160 secrets transcripted from this thread already. So if your secret is old, is probably there. Look it up using the Tags on your right

(but then again, im only on page 40 of the thread, so there´s still a lot of stuff to do)

Ehrgeiz isn't the same universe, its not canon. I'm pretty sure that namco doesn't even own the rights to the character godhand mishima. That should be dreamfactory if I'm not mistaken.

It's not cannon but same universe regardless. Pre-release it was touted and advertised to be the same world.

Yeah, apparently Clefairy was originally going to be the franchise mascot. However, the mention of it being a "last minute change" in the Anime's pilot episode seems a bit false. Considering how it takes awhile to produce an episode, I doubt they suddenly at the last minute substituted Clefairy with Pikachu.
It might've been last minute as in the last minute they had before the episode went into production.

One I found out the other day that's maybe old news to some: If you leave a game of Four Swords Adventures running in multiplayer without moving for a while a swarm of Tingles comes through and steals a bunch of force gems.

feel free to take it with a grain of salt.... i think it was printed years ago on a magazine, but I swear I read it online somewhere.

It was probably one of those early internet cases where people just made up stuff they heard somewhere and didn't really have sources. I mean, back in 2000, if you saw Cloud and Tifa in screenshots, the logical assumption was that it WAS part of FF7's universe. Who'd think it'd be some weird Dissidia-like alternate universe?

I was doing some research because the last person to post it used that same example, and a search for the Sky Land / SMB3 World 5 theme always yielded this result. Since I haven't played through the game without warping for about 12 years, I actually knew Peach's Smash theme as being the Warp Zone theme.

Turns out, the Warp Zone, the in-the-sky part of Sky Land, and the Coin Heaven sections (when you warp above the clouds in-level by bouncing on the pink music blocks) are all the same theme. Never realized this.

Well, according to the cloudbush site, this was only mentioned once in passing.

Super Mario World Secret Music

Make sure to listen all the way through. Can't believe I never knew about this.

It was mentioned in passing for a fairly good reason, just about every site or book I've ever seen with trivia on Super Mario World mentions the SMB theme kicking in after a while in the Star Road. It's fairly well-known.

Speaking of fairly well-known, not sure how many people in here are familiar with this, but it hasn't been posted yet in this thread, so I figure I'll do the honours.
Okami-wii.jpg

The Wii version of Okami has an IGN watermark just to the right of Amaterasu's mouth. Far as I know, the designers decided it would be faster to just snag an image of the game's boxart from IGN instead of looking through their art archives or something. Fun stuff.

Also, another SMB3 one:
283.jpg

While it's already been noted here that the islands make the shape of three big pipes, I don't think it's been noted that if you look sideways, they also form six additional pipes. Just thought I'd mention it.

And finally, in some Kirby game (I think it's Kirby's Pinball Land) there's a section of three screens where parts of the level arrange to look like a naked woman. I saw some screenshots of this once before but haven't managed to come across it recently. If I can get a hold of a screencap, I'll put it in here, it's pretty interesting.

Knuckles Chaotix was originally planned to star Sonic & Tails:

No idea why it was changed -- probably because of the low sales of the 32X.

All credit goes to the incredible X-Cult. Most of the stuff there (especially on the Sonic side) hasn't been posted here yet.

I think that Chaotix thing is fairly well known.

Also I don't think that site allows hotlinking. Unless you meant to post a bunch of images of Link bumming Knuckles.

Poor junior, only their 6th post and its looking like it may be their last.

Hilarious that the site does that for hotlinks though, it'll learn them to reupload with imgur!

I think it was in the works as a Genesis game, too. I distinctly remember playing a really early version of a Genesis game where Sonic and Tails were tethered together.

Yeah, probably but there are some people here who get shocked over some pretty obvious (and stupid -- see the Pac-Man ear thing) so I figured that a bunch of people haven't seen much of this Sonic stuff.

I was not aware that X-Cult doesn't allow hotlinking especially because it still shows the source images to me. Pretty funny though. Just don't get too lost on their site...there's some things best left unseen there.

What's funny is that now that the images are replaced, people tuning in are going to imagine things much worse than the images actually were based on what we're describing.

If anyone thought the Dog from Duck Hunt was called Mr.Peepers (thanks to this article); I'm sorry but they've updated it to remove that (no explanation either which is annoying as I'd like to know more about the mistake). I think Fryguy64 (of NinDB fame) for tweeting them about it made them notice this mistake...

However, that is far from the first time Mr.Peepers name has appeared in association with that character. This blog post from 2009 has this excerpt:
he’s apparently known as Mr. Peepers, at least to certain members of video game-playing society. A Google search would seem to support this fact, anyway.

I'm not sure when it first appeared on the Internet but given Google groups finding nothing of relevance (well before that Kid Icarus article mentioned it) its not from the usenet era so probably the world wide web era sometime is when it first popped up on the internet.

I'd say the mid-late 90s when everybody plagarised the same rubbish from each other (badly written DBZ synopses, plain wrong facts about BS Zelda) is the likely cause of it but can't really find anything to back that up.

In Fact the earliest I can find is Gamespot using the name here (June 2006).

tl;dr. Gamespot got the name Mr.Peepers for the Duck Hunt dog from somewhere but there appears to be no official name. If there is some pop culture reason for this name I'd like to hear more.

OK, I had a question about the Pokemon games. Something I heard a few times. If true, it's probably mindblowing to some people, but I ask because I'm not sure if it is. It was something like this:

If you capture a pokemon and train it a lot, it builds a bond with you. I heard that if you release a pokemon into the wild that had a really strong bond with you, it may reappear in the wild, like it was seeking you out because it misses you.

Is this an actual thing or a lie from my childhood?

I don't think that's true. It would be really heartbreaking if it was. :p

God so many pokemon rumors as a kid
-Pikablu
-the truck....which I actually tried

Doing the truck thing in RBY's remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, would actually give you a cookie as a reward for trying it. It was a simple item from Ruby and Sapphire that restored like 30 HP or something, but it's still amusing that they acknowledged it.

Now THAT is pretty cool.
