Vigil Art Director in 2012: Wii U is pretty powerful.

Cant wait to see NextBox is "On Par with Wii U" ;) thread

and as you can see he talking about his game trying to keep it all looking same and to not lose the art style

A bit like "on par" from the other guy. Valid counter discussion imo :p

But even with that , I'm not even sure they were actually making a big assessment on the overall power of the system. Just saying "yeah it can do this current gen stuff no problem and for obvious reasons like it being a launch game and being made in the current gen, we aren't going to really make use of the systems potential, but since the system is good anyway it would probably look a bit better anyway".

Game Director on March 23: It's on par but we're not up rezing or anything
Neogaf two days later: Wii U only as powerful as 360/PS3
Art Director on March 22: It's pretty powerful/ We can do a lot more. We want to be consistent
Neogaf on the 28: Too vague. Powerful compared to 360 or Wii. LOLZ

I kind of hope the wiiU is about the same, maybe only slightly more powerful than current consoles. If people are having meltdowns now just wait until it's actually proven true.

It will most definitely be more powerful than the current gen consoles. But, because it's rendering two screens at once, the games might end up looking about the same as 360/PS3 games; which will make some people think that it's not actually more powerful.

There will be a lot of "lol, it's only rendering in 720p" posts.

AceBandage thread, ladies and gentlemen.

Yeah. And it's not the first time a reactionary thread has popped up to counter that other thread.

It's actually kind of sad that they've driven anyone remotely sane from their echo chamber, so that when new threads pop up bring fresh blood to the table, they get all defensive and act like it's violating some accepted truth about Wii U.

I'm not seeing that in the quote in the OP.

Watch the interview. It's pretty clear that he was asked about the Wii U version, most likely something as generic as "what about the wii u version?"

To which he replies he can't talk about it right now, but that the system is more powerful so you can obviously do more.

It would make zero sense for him to be talking about Wii because we're talking about DS2 here, a 360/PS3/Wii-U game. Maybe you could make the argument that he was talking about wii if there was a wii version of DS1. But in this context, it makes absolutely zero sense. None. Zilch. Nada. He's comparing versions of the GAME he's developing, which is not involved with the Wii at all.

It's like I'm taking crazy pills here. How can people not see this? It's really too much.

Meh. Not holding out hope for Wii U (or PS4/720, for that matter) to come anywhere close to what my current PC can push out, graphics wise. Nintendo games in HD without the use of Dolphin is good enough for me.

What a desperate topic. 360 and ps3 are also "pretty powerful" if you ask most developers.

This is really bothering you people, isn't it?

Its bothering you too. Watching this from the outside, both sides of this ridiculous argument have lost their minds. Vague quotes and speculation, rumors and 'interpretation' used to try and pinpoint what the machine will do.

The whole lot of you are insane.

I dont know about that, but my next major upgrade will surely be beyond what any of the next 3 can do. Thats sort of why I think this whole thing is stupid.

It's back and forth, back and forth. Some say the Wii U is kinda underpowered, others claim it to be a powerhouse...

Man, this year's E3 is gonna break the internet. I can't wait!!

I think that would be a fair criticism if it happened that way. If the games' graphics (or anything else) are harmed by having extra unnecessary screens then people should complain.

So two people from the same company with contradicting statements isn't thread worthy?
How.. how do you make that shit up?

Pretty powerful.. compared to what?

Exactly.

One quote says it is on par with current PS360.

I'm reading that the Wii U is 'pretty powerful' compared to the Wii? He made no direct comparison. I think this thread is kind of backfired.

I just wish E3 would hurry the hell up so we can get rid of all the speculation and move on.

Yeah, pretty powerful. For a Nintendo system. Equals on par with current gen.

So....first Vigil said it is not that powerful, now they are saying it is...........................they change their minds as much as Epic does regarding tablet gaming.

given how much Vigil likes to talk about the Wii U you'd think it was the lead platform or Nintendo was paying most of the marketing budget

Well, it's the reality. The second screen isn't going anywhere. They won't make a really powerful console that will cost $499 or anything like that.

I don't expect higher than 720p on the main screen for most games on Wii U. On the other hand, I don't expect most games to be native 1080p on Xbox 3/PS4 either.

It's three separate people probably talking informally. And all 3 come from different development backgrounds as well.

It was a prominent third-party announcement by Nintendo at E3, so it stands to reason they'd be talking about the Wii U version a lot.

For the last time, saying "more powerful" doesn't make any sense in relation to the wii because darksiders 2 is not on that system. When he says they can do "more," he is talking about more in relation to something that actually EXISTS, ie. the other builds of darksiders 2.

This isn't that hard.

You'd think Vigil would have some sorta PR department that would actually make sure they are all saying the same stuff, and not to give out completely opposite mixed signals.

Actually I don't care where the system ends up in power. I just think it's funny some of the Wii U fanatics can't stand the idea of the system being not much stronger than current gen. It's like they came to the conclusion that it will be equidistant from current gen and ps4/720 or almost equal to those two and won't hear anything else, even if it comes from someone who actually has access to the damn thing.

Strong quote. For strong men. I like it.

Wii U stronger then your PC.

So it'll have bad third party ports, be hard to code for, have a lackluster online service and come with an iPad knockoff.

Sadly, these things may be true.

Yeah yeah, Wii U will be a powerful console, beats XBox 360 and PS3 easily. But let's just wait till the games are shown. Ok, I too am curious to see how Wii U's first generation games will look, and then imagine the games in a few years. XBox 360 and PS3 games improved a ton during their lifetime, and now Wii U's first games will look like PS360's latest games, so no one should be worried at all.

Sure it is. It requires critical thinking.
