Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

The art director since he has to work with the hardware directly. Game director, has the man himself said, is more concerned with the games narrative and how that narrative is achieved. Things that aren't directly affected by the hardware

And most of NeoGAF will believe the person who doesn't touch the hardware.

whoo going throgh the last pages brought up some new ideas.

ok about the GPU it was said early that it is something you could compare with the RV770,
but its a custom chip which may include some new stuff.

My question now is would it be possible to put something in WiiU/console like the Radeon 4850 X2 ??
This one by the way would use GDDR3 RAM, isnt it the one Nintendo seems to go with?
I know that would be 2 GPU chips but would it be possible in general?
Would it be likely for a console and if yes, would it be possible for WiiU?

Another question that I have is about the 4xSD output of the Wii U.
Could it also mean that it is only preparation for 3D image output to the pad ala 3DS?

Like...man. What the fuck. Now Vigil staff is comparing builds of a game against hardware that it's never existed on. It's just...wow. I can't wrap my head around that thought process.

I like that you used the bold-feature for your last statement in the thread - I knew you are a strong man. I only read posts by strong men.

Also, Ace what have you done :lol

So are we up or down today guys?

Up, someone actually working on the Wii U hardware at Vigil said it's "pretty powerful" and that it has more resources than the current consoles, and that they are working hard to make darksiders 2 for Wii U, the best version.

(compared to the game director who isn't working on the hardware, this team is more in the know, the game director also said from what he has heard, meaning that the on par stuff is very general, and probably factors in the controller's performance drain too.)

All and all, it's back to how it was before a week ago with some other news coming out, but all small details.

It makes me wonder if the system on paper doesn't look great initially but the more devs dig into the system, the more they realise they can push it a bit further. And maybe the extra memory is coming in more handy then they initially though which frees things up and allows them to push the system harder.

Well people have been clamouring for Nintendo to make a spiritual Gamecube successor...

I hear all the memory bar 256MB is reserved for the OS, which needs it to run an early PPC port of IE4, which is mainly used to show the 'insert disk' dialog box, which is needed by most games as those will be multi-disk as the media turns out to be capped at 4GB. More details at 11.

What new consoles do you want the Wii U VC to support? I've seen some people mention GC, but is it possible without a hdd? Aren't game sizes at least 1GB?
It'd be doable with an included 8 GB, but in terms of filling up your fridge it'd be like the largest N64 or WiiWare games are on Wii.

The more included the better, though. Looking at Wii, imagine how negligible the extra cost would be over its life to have 2 GB included standard rather than 512 MB. The extra purchases made by people not having to worry about fridge issues and the handful of extra games possible to be put on the system due to not needing such a small limit as ~40 MB would make up the difference easy.

Also, Animal Crossing is an N64 game that was simply ported to the Gamecube.

Well, the 64DD, anyway.
Nope. I don't know if it was ever planned for 64DD, but it was a cartridge release in Japan in April 2001.

I'm surprised you guys haven't begun to furiously analyze the difference between a southern islands gpu and what the wiiU may have yet.

These conflicted reports are getting pretty hilarious. Can people make up their freaking mind about this thing? Or at least leak the specs so we can make up our own mind? IGN should get a move on.

I expect that to hit twitter in less then a hour.

Anti-Nintendo people can say all the bad things they want about the Wii U but the one positive thing about the Wii U is I haven't heard a single rumor about it being "Anti-Used games" like the next Xbox and PS4.

I fluctuate between not caring about wii u power beyond UE4 compatability and wanting it to be a graphical powerhouse solely to spite a bunch of dumb people.

But then again, if Wii U does end up showing some visually impressive games at E3, most will respond with things like "about time" "well good riddance to that old nintendo" and "finally this company isn't incompetent anymore" and I'd still be banging my head against my keyboard.

Also if rumours end up true that Orbis AND Durango don't support used games, say goodbye to 3rd party games you don't pay for nintendo :p

power won't even matter

User base and DD don't matter either? Let's not try to go off the dramma charts.

I could swear somebody made a big post guesstimating the Wii U GPU using Southern Islands as a base a few pages back, but I can't find it in a search.

But what can you really do, other than just going to a random comparison table and pointing gruntily at the highest numbered model that fits inside the maximum TDP that you think Nintendo is willing to work with?

*points gruntily at anything slightly over 1 GFLOPS*

at this point Nintendo would be forced to do the same as the industry is trending towards anti-used games after all Historically Nintendo was anti-used games for a while

This X infinity! I could care less about used game sales b/c they'll probably be available as DD anyway, but forcing an internet connection sucks. There are still people out there who like to move their consoles around, you know put them in cars, have them in a kids room, take them to a lan party, etc. It's a terrible idea imo.

WTF blu? Is it just that it's 4:30am here or did you say Wii U games are limited to 4GB? You're pulling my leg right?

PS4 "on par" with Wii U then? yeah so next gen not going to be a big jump just like I was thinking it wouldn't be

all about games then :)
I you are referring to that seemingly bogus Pastebin document, it states that Durango will use 4 GB RAM (unverified type) and an 8-core x86-64 processor. Will Wii U be able to combat that?

Regardless of these systems' presence at E3 this year, I think we are in for a real treat seeing as the rumors are flowing at a steady and juicy rate, and Microsoft nor Sony cannot deny their plans for too long. Especially as strong evidence of these things start surfacing.

The pastebin is obviously bullshit aside from the name lol. Or maybe it was true at the time, but I say kotaku rumour is more likely.

So yeah so far we have:

Orbis - Southern Islands GPU 2-4 gigs of RAM likely
Durango - Not sure of GPU (possibly BASED off of 6670)? 2-4 gigs of RAM likely (somehow possible more maybe?)
WiiU - I don't know the GPU, I forget what the latest we think is. RAM 1-2 gigs.
