There is already a thread for this. And TDKR will crush Avengers. Domestically, worldwide and in quality.

dark knight rises will do worse than dark knight but should still beat the avengers. i think the avengers will do 600-700 mil and dark knight around 800 mil.

Joss Whedon is just fine in my book. Overrated by his annoying core fan base but he's produced a lot of entertaining material.

It's sad how vocal the Joss Whedon haters are on these boards.

Avengers will be a great film and makes a ridiculous amount of money but there is no contest here. TDKR is going to be the biggest grossing film in years, possibly of all time

This isn't really a toughie. Considering I'm not sure Avengers will beat Inception's domestic total ($292 mil), I'd say beating TDKR is... unlikely.

TDK didn't accomplish that and it had the most recognizable villain in the franchise. I don't think Bane will be quite the same draw. Still, I think it will do incredibly well.

I wish both franchises success and hope for more great comic book movies in the future.

Oh wait, do I have to completely hate on one while I love the other? Is that the way we do things these days?

Dark Knight will obviously make more money. Without Ledger I don't see it outdoing the last one though. Avengers will remain the crowning achievemement of superhero films.

Ehh, I doubt TDKR will beat Avatar but it could hit at least 800 mil to 1 billion+.
It's actually pretty surprising how strong Batman's draw is.

I think it will be close. I also think Rises will not do the business that Dark Knight did, as it's villain is not even in the same league of recognizeability that Joker enjoys, and none of the controversey of the actor's death either. Also, fangirls love Heath Ledger but none of them know who the fuck Tom Hardy is.

Where is all the Joss hate coming from? Buffy was great for it's time, so was Firefly, so is Cabin in the Woods.

I don't get it.

The Dark Knight Rises may not do as well as people expect. It doesn't have the death of one of the starts to draw people in like The Dark Knight did.

I'm looking forward to both but I think Batman will do better. I'm more excited to see Robert Downey Jr again than the terrible Christian Bale though.

I think Catwoman is the big pull for people who aren't too familiar with Batman mythos. Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, Michelle Pfieffer, people know these roles. The villain isnt going to draw these casuals because nobody outside of comics knows who Bane is.

Uhh yeah? Any movie that is going to gross close to 400 million domestic is likely to be in the top 3. No way is Avengers making much past 250 if that. It would have to do better than it's individual parts.

I don't think it's going to be top 5. The trailer screams that the best parts of the film are being shown right now. Avengers & Whedon will never have a box office draw like Batman & Nolan. It's not going to be close.

I think DK is going to win the year with The Hobbit (I'm assuming much of its revenue is next year though if it's released around Xmas time), Twilight, HG, & Spiderman coming close.

Yeah, but once they see how terrible Catwoman will be in the movie, they'll LOL and leave.

DKR will be boring and overwrought like TDK but perfectly executed and make a shit ton of money.
Avengers will be bright and colorful and awesome probably lots of fun but not has as wide appeal and make less.

Is this even a legit battle? Batman has the movie fan base. Avengers has no prior movie fans. As someone said, Batman will do better than Avengers but not as good as The Dark Knight.

Joss Whedon is great but The Dark Knight Rises will make more. I think Prometheus will be a better movie than both though, maybe not in theaters but the unrated directors cut blu-ray will be for sure.

The Iron Man films did pretty well, and having all these characters together could be a big draw in itself. It relies heavily on RDJ.
