Loser slave of the system :(
Considering audiences will have to watch TDKR at least twice to understand what Bane is saying, I'd go with that. Baleman vs. Mumbleface all the way.

Is this even a legit battle? Batman has the movie fan base. Avengers has no prior movie fans. As someone said, Batman will do better than Avengers but not as good as The Dark Knight.

Hulk, Ironman, Captain America, Thor, etc have a huge fanbase.

Doesn't have to be a movie fan base.

We'll see. I hope I'm wrong. I don't see it beating Iron Man 1 or 2, but this is promising.

Lol, so you think Avengers will just match its production cost or make a little more? No chance in hell.

It will do well.
I'm just talking domestic although the rankings won't change too much (It will beat HG internationally). Plus it's front loaded (Huge opening, huge dropoff), so the studio will almost immediate recoup it's investment. Sure it wil make half a billion or more internationally. That's not too terribly difficult.

Well, in terms of ticket sales TDK and Avatar did roughly the same domestically.

And Titanic sold more than both. There is a big list of movies that sold more tickets. What is the point when all anyone looks at is the dollar amount? Or is this the "must find any statistic to ensure that Batman always wins or that James Cameron does not" game?

This is very true. I'd like to think that all the good-to-great money that Iron Man, Captain America, and Hulk made were all driven by the exact same group of people. I'd say Avengers makes just as much as the first Iron Man did.

Who will win?

TDKR will probably make more money.

The Avengers will probably be more fun.

That is where I am standing. Worldwide it might be a bit closer, but domestically Batman will beat Avengers most likely. Remember that last time with Dark Knight the domestic was a higher percentage of worldwide than most other blockbusters.

Avengers, IDK how most people feel on spidy but I am bored of it. They are doing and telling hte same origin story, dull.

i am pretty bored with spider man. Bored is exactly the word. But they'll be doing the origin over the course of several movies. Not sure if thats actually worse...

The Spidey origin is completely different. Although I have no interest in seeing it, but more people know Batman & Spiderman than they will ever know any Avenger. Iconic status plays a big part.

ERMYGERD!
Three superhero-movies, all with different tones, directions and intentions.

So who will win? Who cares, as far as I'm concerned, geeks, nerds and comicbookreaders in general are the big winners this summer if the movies turn out to be decent or better. Isn't that more important in the long run than "OMG BATMAN MADE $4 MOAR THAN SPIDERMAN!!! GLORIOUS DAY!"?

I think Rises will edge out Avengers by a modest amount. Idk I might be the only one, but does anyone else just not give a fuck about the Avengers. I like the iron man films and Joss Whedon's not bad but I haven't cared about it since the teaser at the end of iron man. The teasers and trailers just aren't doing it for me.

The Internet is broken off into various camps. Each camp needs to be right and also needs the other camp to admit that they're wrong. Apparently, box office success helps determine which camp is right and which is wrong. If TDKR makes more than the Avengers obviously the Nolan Camp and the DK camp will be right and the Whedon/Marvel/Avengers camps will suffer a grievous defeat.

So goes the Internet.

Hang out with Steve.
Avengers looks like a lot more fun, and I think it'll have wider appeal (more kids brought by their parents). There's a lot of good will for these characters after both Iron Man movies and Captain America (and to a lesser extent, Thor), and they're still fresh because their last movies were much more recent than TDK. Plus, Fun > Dark + Serious, especially in the summer time.

I think overall Avengers will edge out Dark Knight Rises, and both will do better than The Amazing Spider-Man.

It's going to be hilarious when Spidey camp ends up winning.

TKDR obviously. I also expect it to do better than TDK because it's the end of a movie trilogy. Not to mention the quality of TDK will draw people in too.

You are not alone. From it's inception, I thought it was pointless because it is a one shot thing. I can't imagine sequels to it and the individual franchises being a normal thing unless the actors focus solely on it. It is definitely better looking than I imagined. I liked about half of the Marvel movies though

Sony has really dropped the ball with Spider-Man's marketing so far. But I don't think that's going to stop the film from steam rolling over Avengers' numbers in the box office.

Apart from my own personal bias as to what film will probably be better, The Dark Knight Rises will absolutely be the winner of the summer. It'll destroy the Avengers domestically and worldwide.

Spider-Man will probably beat Avengers as well.

Feel free to haunt me with this post if I'm wrong.

Quality-wise, that's a whole different story. We're hearing that Avengers is good, but Spider-Man is coming from a really talented team, as well.

I think The Dark Knight Rises has a little less to contend with in its spot. The month of May isn't that bad for Avengers either, surprisingly.

Wait, Avengers comes out a week before the new Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp?

Nothing of worth is coming out after TKDR.
