Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

768MB eDRAM on the cpu die is a bit different than 768MB memory in the system. One is an impossibly high achievement to consider sensible, the other is laughably unambitious.

The only rumor to talk about two systems where one had 768MB and the other had 1GB was the one calling it eDRAM.

Odds of Dragon Quest X being a Wii U launch title in the west?

Or at least released during the first couple of months?

My guess is <10%.

I see them using E3 '13 to promote it.

So bg. are you our designated Futurama gif guy? I like!

(I used to sing "I'm Walkin' On Sunshine" to Jake) :)

Haha. Nah, that was just the first thing that came to mind when I heard that music.

Nah, this is the best version :p

This is AMAZING.

Just needs the Gaf symbol instead of "gaf members" and a better interaction with the sun

It's kind of a funny thought that as a dead platform, Wii's last big game is going to be an online MMO. Just make it a Wii U exclusive, Square Enix.

It sounds pretty likely to me. I mean, it's a little fast compared to other recent gaps between entries in the series, but if they really want to pump dual system compatibility, start of the gen is the wisest time.

…unless they think that they have to have both systems with hefty user bases first. Hrm, I'm probably way off base. :D

Isn't 768MB a lot to have on a single cpu die? Maybe times have gone past me, but it seems like this is much higher than you'd have on, say, the POWER7 that everyone likes to gush about.

The RAM was one of the big "hwhaa??" items in that article.

(and I'm still convinced that we're getting 2GB)

If the amount reserved for the OS is anywhere near where the leaks suggest, then Nintendo would be incredibly wise to have 2GB. Frankly, I'm more interested in seeing if Microsoft or Sony have to go to a split memory pool to get past 2GB without breaking their bank.

Yeah, It is sort of strange DQX is still coming for Wii in Japan. I guess it makes sense to have it on the biggest install base, but the Wii U version is destined to look better and have a vastly superior interface. Oh well.

FFXI is held back by the PS2 badly. They're heavily limited in the amount of different equipment models and such that they can use because of memory constraints. I really don't get why they put a new MMO on a console that is at it's end of life. It'll cause tons of issues later on.

Put me in that camp as well.

I think that they saw what good upping the RAM did for the 360, and given that they are listening to developers to the point where Mark Rein is praising them.. it seems like a pretty believable item.

That, and I still remember IdeaMan's statement of surprise when he learned of how much RAM the system has.

What's the point of going there, when Nintendo can do their own events? :)

It's still fucking retarded. Ah well, more time to play on their competitors booths, since Nintendo doesn't even deem it necessary to present there.

This is probably the most retarded thing they could've done, and it makes me think that we'll see a 2013 launch of the WiiU in Europe. I wouldn't doubt that NOEs complete and utter incompetence manages to fuck that up. We're also going to get Retailers declaring the price again. Wait for 400 to 500 Euro price gouging at the start again.

Also those private Events are pretty useless to me since they won't do a single event here in Vienna.

Assuming that Ghost Recon online is released for free download at launch (or at a really reduced price), will that change the attach rate (EDIT: for full priced games)?

Yes, he seemed to be hinting with almost concrete certainty that it isn't just 1.5 GB. To wit*,

IdeaMan said:
The exciting bonus: From what i know, i'm also pretty sure that it will not have just 1 GB.

AceBandage said:
Yeah, nothing ground breaking.
1.5GB is what I've been expecting and that is definitely good news.

IdeaMan said:
To be more precise, i was quite surprised by the amount of ram expected in the retail version.

I think this message is a bigger hint that the previous one :p

Yeah, me and someone else here (BlackNMild?) were talking about this a while ago. The Wii U controller would make a perfect universal remote, with the screen and built-in sensor bar and all.

question: do we know exaclty how this sensor bar works?
I mean: wii senor bar is positioned under or above the TV, and it recognizes the position of remote pointer.
What is the meaning of and the use of the built in sensor bar of the Upad?

Okay.. I just read Nintendo's statement about how they're planning on doing "a series of events" instead of GamesCom. Not thrilled, but as a consolation I take that to mean that they are planning several events for the period between E3 and Launch. Aside from E3 and GDC, they seem to be doing their own events more and more. Not sure what to make of this.

That isn't happening. I wouldn't worry about that..

I think it means its more likely that we're getting a Q3/4 Euro launch. If it means anything about launch dates, it probably means something good.

I know that the fans here locally have no issue with the system it's on but really, really don't like that it's an MMO.
there is no issue with it being an MMO, IMO. It's that they're going about it all wrong. It's one thing to make it sub based instead of the proven F2P model, but there is no single player mode you can play for free on top of that?

I see decent initial success, and then a huge drop.

Statement? Where?
EDIT: nevermind I see the thread now.

Wait, was it confirmed that there're two separate compiles of the game, not just a Wii version that happens to work on the Wii U?

For that matter, has it been confirmed whether they will be separate retail SKUs or they will be in the same package (or on the same disc)?

Statement? Where?

It's a Bing translation (credit to other thread's Damon Bennet):
"Although that is gamescom, one of the most important fairs for us, we have decided to participate this year not in her." "Instead we plan to extend our post-E3 activities and thereby to introduce Wii U, as well as the latest titles for Nintendo 3ds and Wii our trade and media partners." This will be timely for E3, which takes place from 5 to 7 June in Los Angeles, happen, stressed Gülicher and added: "in addition we for later plan a series of events that will provide opportunity to our fans in a year - in the wake of the Pan-European marketing, PR and event activities to try out the latest titles." "We will soon post more information."

Nintendo launching 2013 in Euro land? Yeah, won't happen. We'll get a similar situation like back in 2006 with Wii: Japan en America will get it in november, Europe in December.

Australia 2013 sorry Aussie GAF

They'll promote the Wii U via "The Nintendo experience" tours or something like that.

Wait.... I thought that was a kind of joke.

Nintendo will not be at gamescom? WTF?

I've never paid any attention to gamescom, has Nintendo really ever unveiled anything at gamescom before, or is it just a European E3 and will just have whatever happened at E3 there?

If they do a tour again, I'll go - but I won't try the controller, just like I did with the Wii. Despite multiple chances to try it out before buying it, I purposely wanted to avoid it, with my first time using it being at home on Launch Day. It made for quite a memorable morning. :)

Back in 2006 they did announce Mario Strikers Charged and Batallion Wars II.

Oh I'll try it anyway. Here's hoping I get lucky, just like with the 3DS. Last year a few weeks before the release of the 3DS I kinda won an invitation to play about thirteen 3DS titles at Nintendo's Dutch office.

Just minor stuff. But i had the chance to play skyward sword demo shortly after the E3 reveal and i was looking forward to lay my hands on the wii u this year.

well, then a exclusive nintendo event overloaded with young, annoying pokemon families it will be.

True, Nintendo going out on special events would mean that the launch is right around the corner, but the media impact of such events is rather small compared to Gamescom for example.

The thing I get out of this, is that Nintendo is afraid of people making first hand comparisons between the WiiU and the 360/PS3 at the Event. They want to avoid direct comparisons, and that is quite telling about the devices performance. Not being at Gamescom simply leaves the stage to Sony and Microsoft.

Or maybe this is part of Nintendos effort to save costs given that they are bleeding money right now.

Those are the best events!

Those are the best events!

Couldn't we assume that any gaming event will be pretty much filled with tons of gamers that annoy all the other groups of similarly annoying gamers? That's what a convention is about.

At least with a Nintendo-specific conference, their mums make them take a bath. >_>
