Seeing that monochrome gold design gave me some fleeting hope that they will bring back Metal Mario.
i think they're average at best. the art is 90's shareware bad, music forgettable or annoying and the gameplay is more 3D mario in a 2D perspective than old mario. the clasic 2D games felt amazing which is why they still play well today, the new mario series plays like slop in comparison.
question, do they have all the previous super marios in the e-shop?
The reason NSMB goes all the way back to SMB1 and starts over always seemed an appeal to the general public who would remember the original Super Mario Bros.
That appeal worked, because the games sell like pure madness. Second only to Mario Kart in mainstream appeal factor.
(Which of course, is why Nintendo will keep making them.)
please disappoint Prinny, Nintendo. If Rosalina isn't playable I'll be angry. So don't disappoint me, Nintendo!
The NSMB games play like Mario 1 / Japanese Mario 2. That's the kind of physics they use.
It's been so cool to hate the series that the "horrible" gameplay games exaggerated because it's not the same physics used as SMB3 / SMW which seems to be the only valid sort of Mario handling for a lot of people.
But every 2D Mario entry has had its own spin on the physics.
I'm finding it hard to get excited about a game that's so damn ugly.

Exactly. This entire motif was selected because it resonates with people who remember the original Super Mario Bros. game. I would confidently say this thing was heavily focus tested and it paid off because you essentially have the biggest "new" intellectual property now.
GAF has its eccentric opinionated following that would rather have the niche nerd dream of a Mario game that looks like Rayman Origins, but quite frankly the mass audience has spoken. As long as you can enjoy the NSMB despite your opinion on the art style, and you still get the Galaxy series supplementally. Why complain.
the physics arent mario 1 they are different than any of the other 2D mario games. there was a good comparison done a year or so back but i cant find it off hand. the nsmb games control like ass, sluggish and floaty compared to the nes/snes games.

I had always hoped New Super Mario Bros. 2 would be an actual sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2.
But there's no veggie throwing here, I guess.

Chaos Emeralds confirmed!
Well, that just about wraps up the entire handheld gaming scene.
Thanks for playing folks!
Also... looks like minimario strikes back
What? They been doing it for decades... why change? It just print money.
Where do you get that from?
He's the same size as the Koopas.
There is a tiny space between the bricks and that platform on the right. I don't however think this confirms mini-Mario since he wouldn't be able to break bricks and get in that space.

Guess how can you break the first block with those koopas around? There is a tiny space between the bricks and that platform on the right. I don't however think this confirms mini-Mario since he wouldn't be able to break bricks and get in that space.

A mario game should even be considered even flashesque.
NSMB is just a really lazy bland cash grab for Nintendo.
I'm just sad that after a decade of no 2D mario....we got this.
It's like SMW and Yoshi's ISland never existed. The best goddam mario games are forgotten and SM3 is just raped for shits and giggles to keep the hardcore happy.
Didn't even think of that.
Not sure what to do with this thread (saying the NSMB are bad games, that Yoshi's Island was a bad game, and Super Mario Bros. 3 being the best one), but I'll just explain it as a momentary stroke derived from a new Mario game being announced.
That said, I'm not excited at all for this game. I'm not a fan of 2D Mario, and I'm not a fan of Nintendo dumbing down the 3D Mario's to become more like the 2D Mario's. I'm sure this will be the best selling game of the year and will murder the Vita before it even has a chance to get back up, but I'll be playing something else.
