I know people want Cloud but if they went with Squall he could represent both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy
Isn't that a Wii behind the woman ?
"ARE" or "WERE"
because im talking about WERE. smash bros did not make samus, fox and kirby popular. they were well-known beforehand. that's my point. i have said nothing negative of the popularity of the sony franchises then and now. really as for current day (as in ARE), i can wholeheartedly agree that some of the franchises are relative to some of nintendos offerings in terms of "known".
when melee was released in NA, who the fuck knew who marth and roy were? didn't stop anyone from enjoying the additions to the game or the game itself. am i talking about those characters? nope. am i talking about sony characters? nope. just samus, fox and kirby back then.
but in a much smaller role imo.But Cloud was in Kingdom Hearts as well...
Hey guys.
Kratos is in Mortal Kombat. Cole is in SFxT. Sony clearly has a close relationship with both WB and Capcom.
Sony. Come on. Get Ryu and Scorpion so I can make them fight. You have to.
doesn't sound like a really fun implementation for a fighting game.
Cloud is in Kingdom Hearts as well. So are Sephiroth, Aerith and Yuffie.I know people want Cloud but if they went with Squall he could represent both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy
Eh, true in the first game, not quite as true in the second.but in a much smaller role imo.
Nope, not a chance.Any way these can make it in?

- Is a character that will require patience and blocking to be effective
- Have to work for your AP, slightly slow gainer (heh heh).
Yum.Kazuma's level 3 move would probably elevate the game to a Mature rating. It would involve his knee, his opponent's face and then a floor... preferably made out of concrete.
Any way these can make it in?
I just want Cole in, he's the character that has tons of potential. Imagine a Lightning Storm as a level 3. He could be the Princess Zelda of the game by transforming back and forth from Good to Evil.
Nathan Drake can work, make him into a brawler that combos a lot and for his level 1 finisher it'll be the Brutal combo. Level 2 be some sort of Steel fist combo (shooting and punching) that last for a certain duration. Level 3 I don't know.
Look, all I was saying was
Popularity of Mario, DK, Zelda, and Pokemon THEN or NOW >>> Anything else Nintendo or Sony has
Popularity of Samus and Fox THEN ~= Popularity of Kratos and Nathan Drake NOW
Popularity of Kirby THEN < Popularity of Samus/Fox THEN or Kratos/Drake NOW (and I may be wrong on this, but it's the impression I got back then)
where THEN represents N64 time and NOW is obviously modern time. The only one I said Smash made popular was Kirby, which I might be wrong about but I got that impression. I was merely stating that Samus and Fox, while popular, are not on some level unreachable by Sony like Mario and co. are.
Eh, true in the first game, not quite as true in the second.
Either way, if they're going to include a FF character, you have to admit that Cloud would be the primary choice any KH representation should be done by using an original KH character.
Nates level 3: He collapses the stage. lol. He can't seem to get involved in any adventure without it destroying the whatever it is he is looking for. lol.
I cant believe this game is a rock solid 60FPS with all the things going on the screen.
http://www.g4tv.com/games/ps3/66057...battle-royale-hands-on-preview-smashy-smashy/
Anyway, anybody else think they revealed this a month before E3 so they would have time to change things if people bitched about it?
Did you start playign Atari when it first came out or did you dad dust it off for you when you were old enough to play games?
Whether you like a character or not, even if you've never heard of them... If millions upon millions of other people do know them. Then that character is considered big... agreed?
Starfox not only brought 3d graphics to the home consoles, it also brought rumble technology in its sequel.
Maybe you know Samus by her other name... Metroid
Another thing they should really avoid is walking guns. It will be more than enough with the inevitable Drake and Chimera/Hale plus Radec from Killzone. Stop it right there, be imaginative with the characters or use the gun games to make scenarios. Seriously, gun characters in fighting games should be banned from existance.
The super system sounds pretty broken, at least the way he described Parappa's Level 3. Being able to kill every opponent no matter where they are on the stage or in relation to your own character doesn't sound like a really fun implementation for a fighting game.
Once youve reach level 1, 2, or 3, youre free to unleash the super, but as game director Oman Kendall explained, a well-timed level 1 super can be just as effective as a level 3 if used smartly, suggesting that timing can often be more important than sheer power level. Based on the matches I played, this absolutely ended up being the case (I think my 5-0 record more than proved that). So while turning Sweettooth into a towering, machine gun-armed Mechatooth or riding around on a giant chicken as Fat Princess can be highly deadly, so too can PaRappas skateboarding attack, because it all depends on who happens to be in your immediate area at the time you trigger the super, adding a great level of strategy to the chaotic action.
But where are your sources?
Is this a peer reviewed source?
Did you conduct a poll? A survey?
That's actually a good idea lol. Drake collapses the stage and auto survives while the others have to jump, double jump and struggle to stay on the stage to avoid being KO'd
Just watched that first Gametrailers video and the whole they're like "this mechanic is KIND OF like Smash Bros but it's different because _______."

And, don't take this the wrong way, but you're full of shit.
I never once said that nobody knew who Fox, Samus, etc. were. I said they were nowhere near the same level of recognition as Mario, DK, and Pokemon. I said they were on a similar level of recognition as Nathan Drake and Kratos. So unless you think that nobody knows who those two are, then I don't see how you could misconstrue my statement to mean that Samus and Fox were nobodies, unless you're just trying to manufacture outrage.
As for Kirby, I was born in '92 and nobody I knew had any idea who Kirby was until Smash Bros.
you are correct about not having mentioned samus and fox being unknown/not popular. i think that came into play after someone else spoke of not knowing who they were and i misconstrued it as you talking about those two characters. for that i apologize.Neither Samus or Fox are any more well known than Kratos or Nathan Drake, and Kirby was probably less well known than any of them before Smash made him famous.
Really, the Mario characters, DK, Pokemon, and Link are the only ones Nintendo has that have a significantly larger brand awareness than Sony's most famous characters.
yes i see that now. calling someone out for saying something dumb is a big no-no. ive had multiple other members assert their post-count dominance and call me troll and yell at me already without a hint of hypocrisy in the air around them.I give it a month before you're banned. There's a right way to make a point and a wrong way...you continue to insist on using the wrong way. That's not going to get you very far around here
ooooooookay. i didn't say obscure characters or popularity in the roster matters. im actually looking forward to this game even though it may dethrone SSB. if it's a fun skill-based game then im all for it. hopefully this will put fire under nintendo's ass so they don't turn churn out another terribad brawl.I was a kid when the original smash bros came out. I didn't know a lot of the characters, other than mario and company. Did I still enjoy the game? Yes, I loved it. It was because of that game that I learned who star fox, metroid and so on we're. Did the game make me want to go out and buy a star fox game? No. But I still enjoyed the character within smash bros.
It'll probably be the same for this game. Sure there are a lot of characters people may not know of. No one is gonna become a huge fat princess fan because of this game but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy her being in this game. Same goes for any other characters that make it in.
the bolded is all i had a problem withPopularity of Kirby THEN < Popularity of Samus/Fox THEN or Kratos/Drake NOW (and I may be wrong on this, but it's the impression I got back then)
You are indicating that I am not allowed to draw comparisons between the popularity of Nintendo franchises compared to Sony franchises when this is completely valid in this case. I also pointed out why, so please go back a few pages and trace that back. I don't feel the need to explain everything twice when you seem to deliberately ignore those arguments because you do not like them.
Kazuma the main from Yakuza has to be in right? Yakuza is basically a Exclusive PS Franchise anyway.
The team includes fighting designers with experience on games as new as UFC Undisputed and as old as X-men Next Dimension. Even Ed Ma, a preeminent Street Fighter IV player, is on the combat team.
Game Director Omar Kendall tells me that though the game has a casual appeal, they want it to serve doubly as a competitive fighting experience.
The game and its developers aren't shy about similarities to Super Smash Bros. Before the match, a Ready, Fight introduction splash on the screen.
Says Kendall, "We don't shy away from the fact that we as huge fans and as developers have borrowed from the great history fighting games have."
Schrödinger's cat;37355522 said:Yum.
I'm sure they can find a solution to work Kazuma into a lower-age-rated game. For my money I'd say Kratos is the more brutal of the two characters.
stuff
No. I played Atari in 1990. Than i had an NES, than a Sega Mega Drive (at a friends house, and borrowed it for 6 month) PS2, PC, PS3. I wanted to say that Fox is not as big as Pokemon, but sometimes i think about typing a word and think that i typed it, but i actually did not type it . It might have sold millions, but Fox is not recognizable outside of its core fans. For instance GTA/Mario/Pokemon are known to hardcore and casual gamers. If people do not recognize Fox, that does not mean they are none gamers or live on the moon. The whole notion is offensive.

I said it before I'll say it again. Ratchet is either going to be really OP or Really shitty. I see no middle ground for him.
Hey guys.

There were a couple of interesting things dropped when the team was interviewed by Verge:

Also he talks about SSB:

What game is this level from?
This game looks good btw. Looking forward to more info.
The physics look almost exactly like Smash Bros. This isn't a bad thing really, but I'm not very optimistic about the lack of damage meters or smash/"ringout" wins. Maybe it'll help differentiate it from Smash, but it's part of the latter game's appeal.
