What's a life expectancy of a GAFFER and who's been here the longest?

GAF is probably like the NFL where the veterans have been around forever but the average posting career lasts like 3 months.

I joined in 2006 and have been banned only once for a couple of days. I forgot the exact reason, but I probably acted a fool getting too heated in an argument.

Crazy to think I've been here for six years already. I still kind of feel like a newbie.

Been here since the Dreamcast was announced. What, 98? 99? never banned, but I don't post much. I still use my old Gaming-age coffee mug every day

The 17th of this month will make it exactly 5 years on GAF. I lurked for probably half a year before that. No bans so far.

I've been here since 2000 or so. I must be on ban #6 or something
I remember the long-distant thread about you quitting the internet...I guess it was a false alarm, ha.

Didn't a Transexual related thread "won" over the Epic Mickey over most bannings ?

That one was on offtopic ... wasn't ?

That doesn't necessarily prove me wrong. Transexual threads are full of willful ignorance and insults to the transgendered/transexual individual.

He guessed wrong, Amir0x was banned before he was made a mod. Hyoushi, Kabouter, Kagari, EatChildren, Red Scarlet, White Man, and m0dus (at least--I may be forgetting a few) were also banned at least once before becoming mods.

fartblast at 21 bans; PhoenixDark holds the record without being permed; you've been banned 12 times (tied for 22nd). The forum is so much bigger and busier now that I doubt anyone would have that kind of long leash again, nuisances are swept out much faster now.

How the hell are mods even chosen? Do they have terms? Are they mods as long as they want to be mods so long as they don't screw up?

Look at my registration date.
Edit: apparently 06 isn't that impressive. Especially since my account has only actually been active for a year or so. Maybe I hold the record for longest activation time.

I would think the OT would contained more crap post and bans.

There are some people that just get WAY too invested in gaming side. I primarily post there and haven't gotten banned, but I make sure to explain any points I make. I see that a lot on OT, even if people don't have a popular opinion they generally don't get banned unless it devolves into threadshitting territory. Of course OT by nature goes over touchy subjects a lot so people can cross the line easily.

Dragona seemed to be the quickest on the trigger so I've always avoided threads that it would be obvious she would hit, but beyond that it seems pretty hard to get banned here unless it's a case of sarcasm taken the wrong way.

I feel like that if I post a whole lot in the OT, I'll eventually get a ban. Not because of my opinions being crazy, but because (I feel like) I'm sometimes bad at articulating my thoughts, so I worry I'll say something unintentionally crazy and will get handed a ban.

Though I think I almost got banned once on Gaming side... I once confused InFamous with Uncharted, the former is available on PSN to download, which I have. However, I accidentally said I downloaded Uncharted, and I had a million posters jumping on me. :(

Besides that... Approved in '09 and posting tiny bits since.

Since 2001. The MGS 2 spoiler pic thread is what hooked me. Still call this place gaming age and always will

Banned once for "monkey anus picture"

Can you check how many times I've been banned? Thanks!

Is it true as a Jr.Member any sort of ban is permanent? And if not a junior what sort of action causes perma bans? Any example of (in)famous ones? Sorry if any of this was discussed In this thread, didn't manage to read all the pages.

Junior bans are perms. As for what determines a perma as opposed to a temp, there's a general outline in the TOS probably, and it helps to learn some of the idiosyncrasies of the mods. Back in the day when Dragona was a mod...

I forgot when I got my account, but I've never been banned. That's probably because my post count is approaching 0 compared to some of the members here.

My account is living proof of that not being true. Still not completely sure what I was banned for, the reason was something like "We don't talk like that around the company of ladies", think it was a post about Boxxy being ugly. I assume the mod knew I was right though and only wanted to give me a weeks ban because I was being a dick.

you know how we feel about ladies round these here parts woodenlung.

I've never been banned on any forum ever. I mainly attribute that to the fact that I try to act like my real life self (I'm pretty polite in real life) even in the sea of anonymity that makes up the internet.

I'm a relatively new member of NeoGaf though so who knows. It does seem like people get banned here quite a bit from reading through this thread.

I don't consider myself a GAF veteran, but I'm an expert (lol) on some common misconceptions.

- Anybody that is deemed to never get banned: They are able to get banned. The guy that got the tag "and this is why I will never be banned" is perma'd IIRC.

- People that seem to be in cahoots with the mods or are extremely well known and have a history that are able to do stuff most people would not get away with: They are able to get banned.

People eventually slip and end up making a huge screw up that gets them perma'd.

- Attempting to get tags doesn't work anymore. I always hear about tag fishing attempts, but it seems like the mods no longer reward people for doing dumb things, only when they do exceptionally awesome things. Naturally you hear more about people getting "banned" as their new tag than people that actually do get tags.

Longevity is about the same as it is real life, it can be the day you joined for a certain banned meme, or 10 years down the road due to having pulled the wrong piece in a very intense game of Jenga.

I've been a member since 2007. I think I've been banned two times. Once for making a PS3+keyboard port joke in a Diablo 3 thread and the other one happened in the the infamous Epic Mickey thread for expressing my disappointment.

Hopefully I have at least another 5 years of GAF life in me. I wouldn't really know where else to turn. GAF has become my home on the internet.

Since 2004.

All my favorite posters are long gone. I'm always amused at watching new GAF personality attempts that inevitably fade away.

Man to think I used to visit gaming age since...man FOREVER, but never went to the forums until like '04 and lurked around.

Been banned... twice I think.

Once for egging on a guy to post pics of gf during a meltdown. Second time for dissing NASA and comparing the space program to Michael Jackson's career.

That's actually pretty accurate...

I look at my post count and wonder what happened sometimes. :|

Just made full member a couple of days ago. I decided to stay away from any threads discussing topics that I really care about.
