This is way, way too simular to what certain wall street firms did in the Housing Market. This is some foul shit.

I'm old school and honestly think that most all forms of RMT in gaming are stupid and out of place. Give me a well crafted experience that rewards player skill, knowledge, intelligence and time spent and I will give you my hard earned cash for it.

Hopefully these kompu gacha's get the smack down. Either way I won't be participating in those types of games but I sympathize with those who've been exploited.

[PS3] Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City - 252,525

[3DS] Resident Evil: Revelations - 146,559

Sony is fighting an uphill battle with its Vita. Those guys should have focused exclusively their efforts on the home console market,but now it's too late,so they need to work hard to make sure the Vita becomes a viable platform for consumers,publishers and developers.This goal is achievable,but it probably isn't worth the trouble,at least in terms of opportunity cost.

Considering the low sell-through, is MP9 a bomb?

You should have been around these threads long enough to know that this kind of game never really start high, but they usually have massive legs. Wii Party started pretty low and ended up selling over 2 millions. I don't think MP9 is going to reach those highs, but I'm pretty certain it'll have really nice legs and it will sell multiple times its first shipment.

Okay, just making sure.

No, this isn't true. I hate when people make sweeping statements like this when there's absolutely no proof to support them.

The 3DS is doing very well, maybe with a big hardware revision and strong software push it can get in the realm of what the DSL was doing that year. Other than that it can't be expected to push out 170k+ a week like the NDS did as a system that year. The system was creating mini-launch lines for new shipments.

It's pretty clear the 3DS won't reach the insanity the DS had at its peak yeah, but saying the market is collapsing is quite the hyperbole.

There's a big difference between "not reaching DS levels", and the market collapsing. The DS was the greatest phenomenon in gaming, sales-wise. It was a beast.

Fire Emblem stock problems continue in Japan. If Nintendo managed to deliver a respectable shipment this week half million isn't so far.

Hmmm...I'd maybe guess at a poor shipment tbh!
If FE really does get a major boost then quite frankly were in Monster Hunter territory and the game has certainly 'taken off'. Currently just 14 in stock on Amazon.

MP9 looks set to take #1 this week if Tsutaya and COMG rankings are any indication. With no notable releases this week it could probably go #1 for two weeks in a row.

Hurting economy and more competition from other devices all help to explain why there's less dedicated gaming handhelds being sold this year than in 2006. That and the fact that the 3DS has yet to attract the broad casual base that the DS had or to have a mainline Pokemon game will keep it's numbers lower than the DS at it's peak.

And the Sony situation certainly isn't helping the overall numbers. This is turning out to be a very messy transition for them as they have yet to entice a decent portion of PSP owners because they haven't given them a compelling reason to own a Vita yet. The hardware is great and I think Japan could still fall in love with the Vita if the right combination of price and games happen. That's an awfully big "if" though.

Hopefully Nintendo will get those FE carts produced and not let the sales die. It looks and sounds like a great title and I hope to play it in English during this calendar year.

Crazy social video game crash of 2012 in Japan stock exchange, over 300 billion yen worth of value has been lost so far in one day.

4 out of the top 5 down stocks are gaming companies.

Dena / Gree / Cyberagent all down more then 20% with trading stopped early in the day.

Konami is down more then 15%, Bandai Namco down more then 10%, tons of social game makers that are rather unknown in the west(acelmark, Gloops, Ganpo etc) are hit incredibly hard too.

looks like most of the other players that weren't as heavily into social games are only being hit by about 4-5% down.

Watching the stock market closely here.

I this due to the gatcha/gambling ruling?

Regarding the sell-trough for Mario Party 9 (<39,83%>), it could have been certainly higher but it is far from being a "bomb". In fact it looks like a pretty standard figure for these kind of Nintendo releases.

Some comparisons:

[NDS] Mario Party DS --- 242,195 (ST: ~48% => 500,000) - LTD Sales 2,015,390.
[Wii] Wii Party --- 223,595 (ST: ~70% => 320,000) - LTD Sales 2,255,643.
[Wii] Mario Sports Mix --- 84,940 (ST: ~20% => 425,000) - LTD Sales 645,005.
[Wii] Rhythm Heaven Wii --- 130,781 (ST: ~56% => 234,000) - LTD Sales 661,532.

Source:

Dengeki for the estimated copies shipped and Famitsu.

I will be surprised if Mario Part 9 hasn't sold around 100,000 units in its second week.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City can be really happy with a 75% - 80% drop.

I think that MP9 performance are not so good as I expected but nothing warning.
The sell% is not high but neither so bad, I expect it to keep some decent sales during the golden week and to handle in the chart for quiet a long period (maybe also in the lower part of the charts, of course). I don't think that it will ends with similar LTD numbers as MP8 or Wii Party but I also think that it's quiet normal (for a sequel, during the "too late" part of the lifecicle of the console)

Resident ORC was a success with its firts week, and also if it will drop like a rock (probably) it will be a very good result for a spinoff.

Good news about fire emblem, but they need to distribute what the people want before the momentum passes.

Are there any other big software houses that have had huge profits thanks to such gatcha games? Square Enix, Koei Tecmo, etc.?

It seems to be a quite big issue.

On the other hand, Nintendo came out strongly *against* that sort of purchase recently (was it in Nintendo Direct? Something like that). I'm curious if their stock's seeing an opposite effect.

Crazy but it makes me happy.

Do you think you or someone else with some knowledge on the subject could put together a topic? This seems big enough news to warrant one.

Hopefully this doesn't initiate a snowball effect, but that seems to already be the case.

It seems to be a quite big issue.

The Square side of Square Enix has been pretty busy w/ SNS gaming, with FF Brigade, Million Arthur etc. They explicitly announced they won't be doing any 'gacha' business in Dragon Quest X, which likely saved their ass in the end.

Level 5 recently announced they'll be putting more effort into Social Gaming.

Koei Tecmo's certainly got their own social games titles, but unlike Konami they weren't shifting to a Social-centric business model (Konami went out of their way to announce that previously, and that's why they've been hit hardest among the 'traditional' gaming companies).

I'm looking at Capcom's million seller list and just realized that MHP3 is going to pass (or has already passed) a significant milestone and has become the first third party game to sell/ship 5M in Japan.

- The original release is at over 4.7M shipped
http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html
- The budget release is at 237k sold as of mid April

+PSN sales

Too bad Capcom doesn't count original and budget releases together (only for certain games?)

In theory PSN sales must be included.

The last known MC LTD seems like the best option, considering MC is what the predictions are based off of. I guess ignore the Monthly MC Nintendo Top 20, too, so just weekly Top 20 LTD numbers.

MC is a week off of Famitsu, so the MC month would probably include the first week of DQM3D. Therefore, MC month.

MC seems to be aligned with NPD (at least per last year's calendar and the monthly sales), so DQM3D would technically be out of this month.

So, what do you think? Include it in May or not?

PS.: We're already well into may, but since the first interesting game is released only on May 17th, we still have time to decide.

If MC is following the NPD months, then I would say to not include it. Just would need to include the dates the predictions would cover then, so everyone knows what they're predicting for. :)
