Jet Set Radio HD Coming To PS Vita

Those screenshots look amazing! I wanted to get this on PS3, but I think I will stick to the Vita version now - portable Jet Set Radio, it doesn't get better than that.

I don't know what TV you have, but I'm betting that Vita's screen is better than both of those in saturation, black levels, and response time.

2011 Panasonic plasma. iPhone retina looks better in my hands in normal light. Also, gorilla glass doesn't smudge up anywhere near as bad as the plastic Vita.

don't really understand all the "dat oled" posts. My TV and my iPhone screens are both clearly better than the panel in the Vita. Vita screen tech is not a priority for me in this respect.

I don't see the big fuss either but it is by no means a bad screen. I prefer it over my iPhone screen. Main (possibly only) issue is when it is super dark and the screen is also dark then you can see the black spots, mine was a little worse than my mates but wasn't enough to make me want to return it.

I really hope that it isn't just nostalgia and they end up rocketing with sales...but even more then that I really hope it pulls off at least a stable 30fps because those still shots look fantastic.

Sure, don't get my wrong it's a perfectly good screen, but it's not a "#gamechanger". If the console editions are 1080p I'll get one of those. It feels like throwing the Vita a bone to get this version.

I'm a big fan of the original, played future a little. I was really disappointed when I heard they cancelled plans for the vita version because as much as I remember having a tonne of fun with it, I'm not sure I'd be bothered to turn on the PS3 for it, which I rarely do these days.

Portable Vita version? No brainer.

Yeah maybe, I feel like I've already played this in "HD" though, as I wore out my Dreamcast VGA cable on it :-D

Anybody bashing JSRF never got into its gameplay very deeply. I've played both games over a hundred hours, both are great gameplay experiences. JSRF high level play is fluid and sublime.

people bash the more simple and streamlined controls but for me that's what makes the game better, besides the better level design and soundtrack

GUYS I've never played JSR...

Can anyone give me the lowdown on if it would be a great experience if I played it for the first time now? I'm sensing some serious nostalgia boners in this thread.

yeah. 4s screen is somewhat sharper rez-wise but the Vita has the edge in colour contrast.

really looking forward to playing this game for the first time. I hear good things.

I know this is a sore topic, but I would much prefer the sequel to be remade, I just have an inbuilt dislike for games that have timers.
It is counter-intuitive to my mind, the game designers and art designers put in so much effort, but then make you rush through without being able to take it all in because you are pressured by the clock.
If they could just remove the timer from this one, then i'm sold, if not, I think I will have to wait and see if they remake JSRF instead.

timers in games need to burn in hell, I remember this game also being very hard

Yeah, tell me about it!
I wanted this game the first time round, but stuck to my principles, and eventually was blessed with the sequel, which I absolutely LOVED!
I really would like to experience this one, but if they wont remove the timer I guess I will have to wait all over again.
But to see it on my Vita's screen, is soo tempting!
Principles can be such a drag!

Eh its fun, but I still think JSR has the better soundtrack. That and I like spinning the analog in time to do tags. Also I like the character designs better.

EDIT: JSRF does not have these -

Of course thats not to say that future doesnt have some nice tracks, but for me the original edges it out. I will say the level design is much better in future though.
That being said, I wonder if JSR HD will be 60fps like future?

Do you like hip hop/rock/funk?
Do you like extreme sports games where you have to do tricks/grind/chain tricks?
Do you like cel shaded graphics?
Do you like going for high scores against timers?

I would have greatly preferred JSRF to this but, but with Sega we should be happy we are getting anything at all. Plus this game on the Vita's OLED screen is going to look amazing

This always happens in JSR threads. Can't we just accept that some people love JSR and some people love JSRF?

I love both and will buy the hell out of both of them if JSRF was released. Trolling JSRF in a JSR thread shouldn't be allowed. They are different games, but they're also both great games in their own ways.

no one is trolling anything, calm down. Just because we aren't kissing the games ass with every post it doesn't make trolls

No, it won't be a great experience for first-timers. The game is kind of antiquated by todays standards. Hell, JSRF received some heat just three years later for the same reasons.

Essentially, the physics are extremely floaty, while stuff like tricks and grinding are very sticky.

The controls are very heavy, as well, and what should be a nimble rollerblader is in fact the QE2.

You know what I dont like, how vague summer is :/

June, July, August...or even September in some places counts as summer.

Sega said summer for VF5: Final Showdown, and it ended up being early June. Hopefully Jet Set Radio isn't too far behind.

But yeah, we need a date already.

OLED has black levels that rival/exceeds plasmas, with a vibrancy of colors that matches LCDs.

It's simply spectacular for image quality, and makes a BIG difference.

Anyway, it is great to hear that this is coming to the Vita. Just a few weeks ago I said that Sega would be stupid not to port it to the Vita, and here we are.

I wonder if this is releasing at the same time as the console versions...

EDIT: Yup.

The much-loved Dreamcast classic Jet Set Radio will be coming to PlayStation Vita Systems this summer, and will be playable for the first time at this year’s E3 show!

oh wow...

Cool that the Vita is getting some love. Too bad I think JSR sucks. It has great style but I think the gameplay is too bland.

I only hope it sells well so that Sega gets moving on Seaman.

And you think that's an accurate word to describe JSR?

It's one of the best screens in existence, right now, for the purpose it's meant for. Certainly better for games/videos than iPhone 4(S) screen which has much poorer black level and laughably worse contrast.

I'm curious what TV you have as well (exact model). I have a pretty decent plasma, and it still doesn't compare. I can't think of any LCD TV panel that I've seen that I think it's better either, but I haven't really seen some of the most expensive newest ones.

It's an accurate word to describe JSR's gameplay, which I clearly distinguished in my post.

Coming from my Galaxy Nexus and iPad 3, the Vita's resolution is jarringly ugly to me. But it's a game system so I can let it slide.

What about the gameplay is bland? That's such a vague criticism, and the word doesn't apply to anything about the gameplay at all.

I dont get some of the timer complaints. Iirc, you unlock an infinitely replayable ten minute version of each district to dick around in when you beat the game. Thats more than enough time to go on some relaxing sight seeing.

Wow! This slipped under my radar. Looks like I'll be double-dipping (PC & Vita). Can't wait to play it on the Vita.

JSRF would be welcome too.

Touch screen tagging is one of them.

It would be cool if they'd use the gyro's or touch screen to shake off riot police.
Or a custom grafitti tag creator
Or custom soundtracks

My kids have been playing the heck out of JSRF. Looks amazing on the 360...warms my heart.

JSR HD is a no brainer. Can't wait.

I'm just hoping they keep the Dreamcast option to use a .jpeg for your tag. That was such a cool feature.

Well it certainly didn't have the best and most complicated gameplay. I personally didn't care as the atmosphere was beyond top notch and it was fun to play.

Oh and holy shit at those Vita screen shots. I NEED a release date for this month. I'm foaming here.

Afterburnen Climax had quite a lot of options to tweak gameplay to make it easier for non-arcade players so maybe here too.

Strangely, and I don't know of any other games that I remember so well like this - I remember my first play experience and yes it will be brutal for the younger ones, perhaps after about an hour or so you will get to grips with it..but that first map with the ramps and the precision required (dreamcast days so gimme a break) had me restarting the level a whole bunch of times. Once you get used to it - it becomes super (duper) fun.

I actually also very much dislike games without a non-timed mode. I totally forgot JSR was timed. To be honest, I would recommend you still picking it up as the worst comes to worst you just end up replaying the level to explore at your own pace a whole bunch of times until you are confident with it.

JSR maps were...classic, but the maps from JSRF were quite something some of em - really hope it does brilliantly and we end up getting at least the sequel.

After being put through a meat grinder, right? I'm just not seeing it. It looks like an orange splodge wearing a blue t-shirt.

For some reason it's incredibly difficult to find proper screenshots of the GBA version. Most screenshots out there make all the characters look like horrible monstrosities. I know it does this on an emulator as well.

This is what the game actually looks like on the handheld itself:

I actually quite enjoyed the GBA version.

Also, damn excited about JSR on Vita. Another reason for me to finally pick one up :)

I was always surprised that the series was never done on the DS or Wii platforms seeing how either could probably adapt the spray-painting mechanics in rather interesting ways. I didn't know there was a GBA version (which seems rather unfitting to be honest).

It's a shame that the new remake has to be on a system I don't own, and probably never will, but it's at least nice to see the series revisited.

You should know that it's also coming to PC/360/PS3. Something for everyone. The Vita announcement is extra.

I don't really care about the technical blah blah blah. My TV is a panny TX-P50ST30B. The Vita is good but just not that "omg dat oled" amazing to me. Your plasma probably needs setting up properly would be my guess.
