Need for Speed Most Wanted by Criterion [use new thread]

I didn't like HP handling either but you are right, battling out with the cops is so much fun.
The original Most Wanted had the best cop battles ever imo. Hopefully that's recreated for this game...

I liked them in Most Wanted, I just got a little annoyed how you had to have these insanely long police chases to earn your way to the Blacklist races. You'd have to hit so many cars, or last such and such amount of time... have my time in police battles that game was slowing down and waiting for them to catch up.

Plus, all you could do was bash at them, which was fun, I'll admit. I hope Criterion brings back the little touch where you could break through barricades if you ran into the backs of the police cars, since they're lighting in the trunk.

But I liked having EMP and spike strips and jammers to play with too.

Loved the original. I remember having an epic hour long chase once. If theu remade the game I'd be delighted.

We probably won't see a new Burnout until the next gen of consoles.

I predict we will see one late 2014 (due to Criterion's 2 year pattern).

Can't see Criterion making a racing game I don't like, I adore the Burnout series and very much enjoyed Hot Pursuit. Looking forward to seeing more of this, I wonder if they went over to Frostbite 2 now?

Hot Pursuit was good, but Burnout is a different kettle of fish to Need For Speed as a whole and is being silently killed so EA can put out something decent with the NFS brand attached to it rather than the dross that has come from it in more recent years.

This doesn't mean that Burnout is dead. But right now Criterion is the only official NFS developer. EA turned Black Box into a digital games studio earlier this year, which means that they're off NFS projects. So, EA is going to have to find another studio to work on NFS titles since they've said that they aren't going to have Criterion releasing retail games every year.

Burnout could return on next gen systems. From what i've read Criterion is a surprisingly big studio, so they may be able to handle two retail titles at once.

I just realized that Hot Pursuit was unveiled in 2010 and released in 2010.

Man, I really hope this one comes out this year.

Feel?
Chameleon runs at 60hz.

Just a quick extract for you:

So in terms of feel, Hot Pursuit feels like a 60hz game so im not sure what you are obsessing over.
In fact Hot Pursuit in terms of controller response is only one frame behind Burnout Paradise....so you re telling me that extra frame takes a game from heavenly to absolute shit?
It's not about response time. No game polls input at 30hz. It's about being able to accurately display and follow extremely fast movement. Which is something that is much easier to do at 60fps than 30fps. I prefer high framerates in racing games because low framerates tend to destroy the sensation of realistic motion.

People shouldn't get too excited. I have very low expectations because I think Criterion will turn it into Burnout and make it too arcadey,

You... haven't actually PLAYED an NFS made in the last, oh.. 15 years have you?

NFS is an arcade racing series. That's what it's supposed to be. Arcadey.

Ugh, Criterion games all feel the same. I fucking hate it. NFS felt and played almost like Burnout Paradise and I sure this will also.

I would rather Criterion just make another Burnout game. I guess it's been retired in favour of Need for Speed game now? That makes me sad.

As previously stated, Burnout Paradise made very little, if any money.

I`m quite happy with Criterion gradually transforming the NFS series into the Burnout series, considering how awesome Burnout is and how tired NFS was before they got their hands on it.

I'll ask again since nobody commented, but is this the same Most Wanted that launched alongside the 360? If so, why the reboot so soon...

I'm pretty sure that's an E92 M3...
Could be! Front really looks like a 530d to me, but I'm not too good with cars. It's my favorite so that's what I noticed

Yeah, Paradise was one, if not "THE" most enjoyable racers this gen.
Yeah but the game was pretty complete from what I played. What could they change/add really? IMO at best the game would feel like an expansion. A new kind of burnout would be much more preferable to me but somehow I doubt EA would allow it that easily

Hell yeah.

Another couple years of replaying Revenge and Paradise for me :(
I would want an evolution of Revenge!

I am kinda hyped. I might have to buy Most Wanted off of Xbox Marketplace.

I let someone borrow my disc copy and never saw it again.

I remember the tense soundtrack when the cops were after you in the original, good times.

Like you were watching a police car chase on TV.

Burnout Paradise was basically Most Wanted sans character story, licensed cars . This will play exact like Paradise, mark my words. I've played more Burnout than NFS in my time, but I'm over unlicensed cars -- they are ugly and generally not fun.

NFS by Criterion is simply the best of both worlds.

They're fun to deform and blow up. I don't know if you can do that with the licensed ones.

Absolutely. It's all about visual clarity.

I'm praying this reboot runs at 60fps, and if not, then at a solid 30.
The original 360 Most Wanted was like 30, 30, 30, 15, 15, 30, 30, 30, 5, 5, 5, 15, 30, 30. Still a supeb game, but annoyingly erratic framerate.

It also had THE BEST police radio chatter in a videogame, ever. Something they've found strangely hard to reproduce since. I absolutely loved the dispatcher's delivery in Most Wanted.
