Why should I get penalized for switching from 1H/Shield to 2H when it goes from 1v3 to 1v1 though? That seems a bit harsh.

Didn't really say anything about penalizing 1H/Shield -> 2H swaps, just the actual swap from DPS gear to MF gear that needs to be checked. Perhaps removing MF/GF for X time when gear is changed mid-combat, for instance. Allow Weapon changes but not Armor.

By the way my friend is convinced item drops are worse in co-op even though I think he's being silly. Apparently he made next to nothing in gold when we farmed for a day but then made millions when playing solo.

He's being silly, right?

What's the point of MF gear if they don't want you to equip it?

They do want you to equip it, but they want you to make a conscious choice when you're gearing up. Do you give up a little bit of power in order to get more MF? Or do you give up some "luck" in order to survive. It's supposed to be a give and take, not cheesing things at the end and going both ways.

I do legitimate armor swaps all the time too. I have a high str/vit/res belt that I use on non-melee mobs and a 20% string of ears I use on melee mobs. I switch my rings constantly to balance between health/block/dps. So going from sword and board to 2H is OK but switching tank/dps armor isn't?

Well, if he has high MF (or GF) and you don't, grouping for him will end up lowering his MF/GF since it's averaged out between all players in the game.

But the drops themselves do not change.

And you can't change builds without sacrificing Nephalem Valor (or returning to town first to avoid cooldowns). I really don't think they intended for people to be swapping builds, gear, etc. to fit the instance at hand.

Lol, I use an mf gear swap macro like allll the time. It's awesome getting elites down to like 1-5% hp, then hotkeying to swap my gear in < 1s and then killing them with 252% mf. :D

What program are you using to make the macro? I am willing to take the risk of ban. I am tired of clicking all my items lol

I swap gear too, but don't use any kind of macro or scripting. How can you make a script/macro that does this? Doesn't your mouse cursor have to be involved in some way? I would imagine anything driving your mouse cursor would be a pretty big no no.

Yeah, it does use the mouse. Who cares though? It's not detectable if you randomize the coords. I don't even randomize mine and it doesn't really matter either, why would Blizz care?

Nobody is going to gear up using blues with MF/GF on it, so why have them at all?

I do think the MF system is pure bullshit tbh. It's very silly that you can increase item drops with a stat when it should be NV buff only.

real men get those 5 stacks and keep dat regular gear on.
This is what I've been doing, the number of drops I've been getting from the Warden/Butcher is amazing with NV5 - once the patch hits and the quality of those drops improves (along with guaranteed rares from elites/champs) I'll be a happy chappy.

Is that how it works? Since everyone has their own drops in multiplayer I assumed it was still just based on your individual MF/GF.

I recently found out that MF drops are averaged, so now I'm going to be wearing MF armor even if it makes me perform much worse in combat so I don't screw over the drop rates of other players.

Yeah it's based on group average in co-op, but it makes me sad that friends would rather solo than co-op. Blizzard didn't really think this through :/

This is not a good thing. I can't sacrifice tanking gear for a blue with MF on it just to increase a non-combat stat. Blizzard, why are you so shit.

Yeah, I was really hoping it'd be no MF and just the NV buff, honestly. Or at least a better controlled MF since the whole gear swap thing to min/max it is kind of annoying.

You have your own drops but it's a global MF/GF stat that is merely the average of all the players. It's to prevent three guys carrying a solo MF% guy (or 2-2 depending on how easy the content is, etc.).

There's good rares with MF on them too. My best bracers have 20% mf, my best belt has 20% mf and my best quiver happens to have 16% mf too. :p

To people looking for a script: you can use autoit or autohotkey to create one. You could also just grab this one though: mf gear swap script. :D

NV is probably something that happened very late in the dev cycle and now we are stuck with MF. I would love to see it vanish.

There are plenty of items in the game that realistically no one is really going to equip.

I do kind of agree with you on the 2nd point, though. NV buff should have been a larger part of the game. It shouldn't have been relegated to Inferno only, too. It's kind of crazy how good of a system it is on paper with encouraging people to continue, yet it's only in the endgame. It should have been through all difficulties to promote continuous play and to encourage taking the challenges of taking on the elites. The value of the buff probably should have gone up as you go, though. Maybe it's 5% each in normal, 10% each after you beat normal and can head into nightmare, 15% each when you unlock hell, and 20% each when you unlock inferno. If you got rid of MF on gear altogether maybe you can raise each of those benchmarks by 5% or so.

This can work for you as well. My normal co-op buddy and I both run decent - good MF so really the average works out well for us. With 5 stacks we both break 200% MF, no sadly our third has shit MF gear. So well we don't play with him much :p

I could eventually do it so fast that my frenzy stack wouldn't wear off. Although I don't do it solo now because Tyrael can't finish off the last couple % of Siegebreaker if he randomly one shots me in my terrible MF gear.

But yeah, relying on an outside program sounds foolish to me considering they specifically went out of their way NOT to allow weapon swapping which was a feature in the previous game. Let alone full gear set swaps. DarkD3 is okay in their book since it provides no gameplay advantages but weapon swaps is no.

Er, did they post something today that they were okay with DarkD3? I just read a blue post last night , dated 15 hours ago, where they can't say one way or another if it's okay to use it.

I wouldn't use anything, no matter how little you may think it matters to Blizzard, unless you don't mind buying another copy of the game.

I agree. They should either just take out the ability to swap mid combat, or give us an easy gear swap option so it's less of an annoyance.

My GF and I play as a Wizard/Barbarian respectively. We find it a good combo.

To keep things from getting stale we're going to roll another combo. She's already decided on a Monk.

I wish to know which of a Demon Hunter or Witch Doctor would supplement the monk best?

Thanks!

Witch doctor might be better just so you aren't competing for gear. Also they have a cool attack speed increase buff that would help out the monk bigtime

Take out the stat so people actually want to play together without bullshit requirements. Item drops should only be increased with the NV buff. Encourage players to gain stacks in co-op!

So its not okay to do a rollback, but its ok to screw over those who invested in gear with good MF stats? Oooooook

To be fair, 1.0.3 is adding to the NV system's value by giving an extra guaranteed rare drop from all elite packs. And that's where NV is currently shining: Stuff that MF% doesn't give you. It really should do a little more but I'm not sure if there's much room. A little more MF% per stack wouldn't hurt :x

Well, technically speaking, someone will never come out ahead with the current implementation :x At least Inferno is potentially easier with multiple people now so you might clear faster duoing than soloing! Clear speed is another factor for MF/GF runs.

Is there a way for me to use the left click on casting spells without my character moving when the target is not highlighted?

Yeah, that would be ideal for me and encourage people to play the game the way that Blizzard said they were intending.

You mean like doing Shift + Left Click to force cast without moving?
And change the binding to space, makes it so much more natural for me.

True, and I am know I am the one not coming out ahead. As the glass-cannon(ish) one of the team he needs me around just to clear at a good speed. For me I can clear even faster with out him. But I enjoy helping, in a perfect world only NV would matter.

Yeah, so your level-headed evaluation from me ~12 hours later is that the gold duping thing was bullshit with no conclusive proof- people just stirring up shit to make people panic (especially with the RMAH supposed to go live today.)

The fact that there was an issue on the Asia servers where they did purge items from the database only exacerbated the panic.

Yeah, I think it's powerful enough, I just mean the system should have been used more throughout the game, not just at the end. The incentive to the system is great, because of stuff like what you pointed out, guaranteed rares. Pieces of that incentive should be strewn about from very first time you pick up the game.

Yeah, I was kind of responding to you out of context. As for pre-60 implementation, I don't know. I mean, yes, I agree that it should have been around longer but since you're constantly getting new skills when leveling, it wouldn't really be up all that long. Or it'd enforce not trying out new skills or runes.

I would imagine Blizzard cares due to the fact you're automating a process in the game. I certainly don't consider it game breaking in anyway, but I imagine it's easier for them to see automation as a black and white issue. If they start allowing certain things to be automated then it becomes a very slippery slope. Now as far as detecting this kind of automation, I have no clue how they would or could.

They can't since it doesn't use injection, it just sends normal keyboards inputs and mouse clicks like you would.

Taking WoW as a reference point, I'm sure their terms basically ban any addon that can automate actions in game (which is why mods like Decursive had to be redesigned, removing some of the intelligence out of the mod). At the moment I wouldn't think the risk is worth it, at least until they clarify their stance on something like this.

When does 1.0.3 drop again? End of the month?
Before the end of the month, yeah.
