Square Enix registers FFVII PC domain, bonus evidence suggests achievements, $9.99

Look forward to playing this game again even if it was incredibly easy to begin with. However I didn't finish the last boss due to the spikes difficulty at the last cave. This time I will try this to earn the Omni slash move as I didn't spend enough time at the golden saucer
Achievements are cool as that will encourage me to actually kill the extra bosses.

I'm really wondering how they handled the resolution issue. I don't think many people here screaming "day one" would be willing to play this at 640 x 480.

I was reaaaaaally skeptical when a French website posted that news a few days ago but I guess it was true!

Kinda excited, but I hope they've tooled it a little
(a lot)
to make that PC version more bearable. Also, while I'm not holding my breath for a re-translation (it is a budget re-release), as a French dude I hope to god they'll actually proofread the damn thing this time.

I wonder if FFVII PC Redux is a test case for future such releases? FFVIII is an obvious candidate as it's already been ported, but if these re-releases are well-received, then I suspect FFIX will see a port, at the very least. FFX and XII are also distinct possibilities owing to neither employing the PSX-era series tradition of a pre-rendered game world, presuming the idiosyncratic nature of the PS2 architecture isn't an obstacle.

^lol, I can imagine tf2 items for scout being the buster sword and a yellow spiky wig.

Haha, indeed. In fact, Squeenix would be crazy not to offer some TF2 items as pre-purchase incentives (assuming FF7PCR is coming to Steam).

All I strongly desire is the original PSX music.

In fact, every FF game besides 13 is on the PC.

I was referring to official releases, but you knew that. ;)

Cloud Saves and Achievements... so basically a Steam release. Not bad, not bad at all.

Now get Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy IV Complete on Steam.

Edit: probably an announcement after the summer sale

If it's more than $10, I'll be waiting for a sale.

It's £7.99/€9.99 so I assume $11.99 for the US and $89.99 for Australia

I'm hoping, as is tradition on Steam, the Euro and USD price will be of the same figure, however I suspect you'll be right on the money in regard to the Aussie price. :p

If I may add: the MIDI was awful. Lacked the personality and "tinny-ness" of the FFVII PS1 soundfont.
As I recall it the music sounded more or less the same as the PSX version as long as you used the larger of the two soundfonts included with the game (which also had the One Winged Angel vocals).

FMVs on the other hand looked like absolute garbage, the seamless transitions between static backgrounds and FMVs were impressive on the PSX but on the PC everything would just suddenly turn super grainy due to the codecs they used.

So they already have a price...game has been ready or a year..surely it will be released soon?

As I said earlier, companies usually hesitate with new releases around big Steam sales. It'll probably be announced and released in mid-to-late-July.

If the recent Thief releases are any indication this is exactly what will happen.

Title should be updated to reflect the legitness of this?

Anyways I'm pretty damn happy about this. I'm willing to rebuy FF7 and 8 just for steam achievements.

Imagine if this IS a part of the Summer Sale.

First day and boom, on the front page: FF7 for 10 bucks.

Square would sell 200-400k copies on that day alone.

$10? Pft. It's already $10 msrp on PSN. And I don't care if it didn't have achievements and cloud saves.
