I think the Holocaust was exaggerated too.

...

I'm no anti-semite and definitely don't want to offend, but that is my opinion.

There are a lot of things that are difficult to believe, but I believe them anyway because of evidence supporting them.

Examples: the complexity arising from evolution, the size and life of the universe, the fact that objects are primarily empty space, and yes, the atrocities of the Holocaust.

If you don't have any evidence to back up your doubt, you may want to consider just keeping it to yourself.
I specifically said that I was only questioning the numbers and have no evidence, I just find it hard to believe. I was also careful to explain how I had no intention to offend. Sorry if I did.

I should really read more about it I guess, but it's a pretty hard subject to apply yourself to.

I think the Holocaust was exaggerated too. It obviously happened, and is unimaginably awful, but 6,000,000? Can you imagine the logistics of that? And doesn't that number change depending on who you talk to?

I'm not trying to be controversial, I'm no anti-semite and definitely don't want to offend, but that is my opinion.

are you fucking kidding me

Just tell me, when does this number become fucking believable to you? 4 million? 2 million? 500000? When?

Is it a failure of imagination? That you just can't imagine the scale of it? It was a factory; very well organised and horrendously brutal.

Read this book:

515CYTYD48L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

It is just a personal story of someone who was there, but it can give you an idea of the scale.

Now think of the Russian front of WWII, estimates of 26,600,000 civilian causalities. Think of the Japanese Kwantung Army in China, 700,000 deaths in two weeks. The scale of death in WWII is staggering. Think of the firebombing of Hamburg; 40000 dead in one night.

I can understand a failure of imagination when it comes to such things.

Guys, look, I admit to being pretty ignorant on the subject. I also admit that it was probably a poor choice to mention it, as Green Scar said.

I have no evidence, and am not pushing my opinion on anyone, in fact, most of the posts prior to mine, have convinced me to look into it further.

Once again, I apologise, as I appear to have rubbed people up, which wasn't my intention, however inevitable.

I don't think you need to apologize. To have skepticism is usually a good thing, but there is most definitely a time and place for it. I absolutely can understand how such a logistical undertaking may be a point of concern for you, but there is, of course, remedy. I've said this before, there are plenty of well-established academics who have criticized how the Holocaust is discussed in politics and culture, but those critiques are almost never concerned with numbers or the magnitude of the tragedy (from what I've read). There is a consensus out there and it should be respected -- and you should try to alter your "opinion" to best match the data. And besides, how polished in your moral calculus. Say the number was 1,000,000 and not 6,000,000 -- what now? Say it was 250,000?

Edit: Yeah. I can't speak for others but I didn't take your posts for anything other than misinformation/lack thereof.

Go to Hardcore History Dan Carlin, it is a podcast, and he will paint you a picture of how and why these things happen and of it's scale.

Just pick any of the WWII ones that seem interesting. I'm listened to the one on the Blitz and about the morality of dropping the Nuclear Bomb right now.

You have to buy the episodes that would elucidate the holocaust for him.

Then again, they're well worth the price of admission, Dan Carlin is a fantastic speaker.

Yeah that is the only thing, however any of the WWII ones might give him an idea of the scale of death in WWII and how that type of industrialisation could be applied to the holocaust.

Thanks man, I appreciate the understanding. But to answer your question, if it was 250,000 - 1,000,000, I wouldn't have questioned it at all, it's just a horrendous mass slaughter.

But, and bear in mind I'm aware how wrong I obviously was, it's just that number, I can't even comprehend it. How do you move so much earth? How do you stack so many bodies?

It's just such an unimaginably awful vision, that maybe I just wish it was an exaggeration.

It's all good, you were wrong, admitted it and we move on. Some people just like to get all riled up...

I don't understand the ''hitler visiting auschwitz?'' thing. What is offensive about it? The alien pic had already been posted, and the guy made a comment about it, but I didn't really feel any malice from the post. Maybe it was edited later on?

Guy basically compared Auschwitz prisoners to Aliens. The way they were looking skinny and malnutritioned. In bad taste.

Even after all these years, I still believe in his heart he was a real person... didn't he come back with an alt at one point only to get banned in a thread? I vaguely remember posting in it, or it might have been a gaf fever dream

edit, found it.

I doubt I've ever been offended by something on here. Annoyed by stupid shit for sure, but I've thrown out a lot of my own stupid shit too, so I consider that a wash.

edit. nevermind
Not being a piece of shit at all, I'm not saying it didn't happen, and accept the horrendous nature of the event. I mistakenly questioned the numbers, that's all.

I wouldn't dream of speaking ill of the dead, and had zero intention to either offend, or belittle the memory of loved ones.

Edit: Oh, you edited your post. Ah well, time to draw a line I think.

Its okay man. Saw you weren't hostile about things and what not. Hence the altered post. Just a touchy subject
