PlayStation All-Stars joined by Heihachi and Toro

It looks like they've put a lot of effort into Toro (unlike in SFxT)

Toro brings a unique stance-based fighting style to PlayStation All-Stars, affording him several different sets of attacks to utilize in combat. He transitions seamlessly from a close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form. All the while, Toro’s fun-loving charm comes through in every action he performs. Be sure to check him out!

Isn't it the Goliath from Resistence?

R2screen3.jpg

Its the Mawlr from Killzone 3

Toro's inclusion is definitely for Japan and Asia. Him and Parappa are the only SCEJ franchises being repped right now with playable characters. Maybe they'll use this appearance to try to make a presence for the character in the west.

They should've used a character that both Japan and America know well. Heihachi was sort of a good choice, but I think Jin or his father could've been more interesting characters because of their devil powers. Wander from Shadow of the Colossus would've been a better choice than the cat.

The game also needs its own Link.

Its Working Designs published but Alundra is a Sony IP. It would also get curious people to buy the game on the PS Store.

it's sad that we have a generic mech from Killzone and not Omega Boost.

Toro is PlayStation mascot he should be here by default, even if no one in the west know him.

Now Fat Princess that a big why, SCE have tons of great female characters (Jen Tate,Nariko,Ellen,Rynn,Carmelita,Angela Cross and Natsumi)

Him and Parappa are the only SCEJ franchises being repped right now with playable characters.

From SCEJ I can see Spike/Kakeru from Ape Escape coming too he was huge back then, or maybe a generic Ape Escape monkey.

should've make him a hidden/joke character imo
costume switching should've went to sackboy

no, sackgirl
considering the lack of XX chromosomes in this game

As long as Lara Croft and Nariko make it, i'll be happy.
u'll get lightning and like it lol
3 out of 20 is still pretty horrid

Yeah, it's the mech from Killzone 3... Clockwork basically confirmed Snake for the game though... not sure if that was done intentionally or not!

Man, this game looks like it's just barely, barely on the edge of being awesome, but there's soooooooo many little things and a couple of big things that kind of kill my hopes right now.

The lack of visual consistency is pretty bad. I think this is the thing that makes the game look the worst out of anything so far. Characters have very inconsistent lighting and visual styles, making the game feel visually very chaotic. Not in a good way, but in a MUGEN-y way. It feels like there's no art direction. I understand the intent to keep character styles similar to the source material, but it just doesn't look cohesive. It makes the world feel bland.

The color choices and lighting (oh god the lighting) aren't too good. It's a very bland looking game. Dull, washy colors are terrible for competitive games (less contrast = harder to see things. Harder to see things = harder to learn the game, understand why your losing = more frustrating experience). This can get especially bad in certain stages. The hydra stage during rain is this problem multiplied a thousandfold.

The UI and the design choice to withhold basic and vital information in a competitive game honestly just baffles me. I again, understand the intent here, but I genuinely think this is bad on so many levels. I don't think this was ever a problem in Smash Bros, ever. People knew someone was winning through the entire series and this definitely didn't harm low level play. The mechanics change doesn't really change the context that would justify this either. It just makes it harder to observe and understand the game. When you kill a dude, a point goes up. That's a satisfying thing. It really is. Seeing a number pop up when you do a positive action is a very, very, very, very good thing that makes games feel more fun.

The Level 1/2 super UI is impossible to discern quickly. Same color, using a slightly faster flashing light, the UI elements are the same size. Pretty much nothing gives you this information in a quick and meaningful way. It looks utterly difficult to tell what kind of super someone has in a game where you have to focus on multiple people.

The particle effects are loud. Intrusively so. They block character visuals sometimes. Probably not the worst issue, but could be subdued here.

The sound on hits is papery and thin. Some moves sound like they have no impact at all. Heihachi hitting a dude doesn't sound fun. When you punch a person, the sound, visual effect, the hitstun, they all add up to make hits feel awesome. I don't see that. The hitstun looks super super short, the particles are fine, and the sound is reminiscent of a dude throwing a paper ball, not this huge martial artist punching someone else and then exaggerated for effect and power.

I mean like, there's so many GOOD things about the game from the looks of it (being able to turn any stage into Final Destination, the super mechanic is really well thought out and solves tons of problems...) I like that there's more normals on a single button instead of tilts (god I hated tilt normals in Smash). Like, everything about the combat design sounds really smart, and then the actual design that makes things just make the game feel really fun and satisfying aren't present. This game launches in a few months.

I don't wanna be a negative nancy, but yeah...

Please Superbot. You've got my hopes and dreams on the line. Don't fail me on such basic things that are consistent throughout almost every popular competitive game...

Edit: This is coming from a person who's done design on competitive games before and played competitive fighting games at a high level :/

Editx2: Another huge problem. One thing that felt amazing in Smash was knocking someone off the stage. It was a very visceral thing. Loud sound effect, good particle that's very obvious, I think the only time the game had a screen shake. Usually the act of knocking someone off a stage had a really really impactful hit to go along with it. Very fast movement associated with a lot of force behind the blow, and the sound effect on hitting someone with a move that usually KOed people in Smash was SUPER satisfying. IN this game, everytime I see someone get killed I barely notice it.

I just hope there is another 3 stages, 8 characters and a different game type. It looks like an awful value proposition currently.

Come on, now. Do you think, "Man, that was only like five minutes long, what an awful value proposition!" after seeing stage demos at E3? They haven't shown everything yet.

According to the Amazon page, there will be at least 20 characters. They've already confirmed stock play and some sort of single player stuff. And I think it's safe to say that there will be more than 8 stages.

They're not stupid, they know that people are comparing this game directly to Smash. They probably won't be able to match the content in Brawl since Smash had three games to get there, but they're not gonna fall as far behind as 18 characters, 8 stages, and 1 game type.

Every character shown so far jumps too high, there's literally no difference between them in jump heights from what I've seen. Really bothers me compared to Smash where characters all have different jump heights... it's like these characters are fighting on the moon. It also, aesthetically, looks really really bad. From animations of moves to the models to the stages, it all clashes and doesn't mesh well together.

Not to mention the general mechanic of using supers to KO is awful. Game is just looking super mediocre compared to Smash Bros. Look at 2001's Super Smash Bros. Melee and how fluid everything looks and meshes well together graphically.

It's like the development team doesn't know what their game should look like.

I feel like this could have been much better! :(

It looks fun as hell, and I am willing to buy it and play it a lot, but as others have said, there are some things that just bother me. The UI is horrid, seriously, that flow stream (similar to the one that appears on the PS3 XMB) + the character select screen + font are like, the most generic ever. They sure won't be that influent on the fun itself, but still...

Oh well, can't wait for more reveals. The EVO ones weren't my favorites.

In Heihachi's video Nathan Drake has a cover-based-shooting attack. Come on, how can you not love it?

Definitely two solid choices for the lineup - ever since SoulCalibur II I've always really associated Tekken (and Heihachi in particular) with PlayStation, since I haven't had much experience with the franchise otherwise.

Nah, he was already a joke in SfxT. Deserves better than that. Besides, Sackboy doesn't get new abilities with costumes in LBP anyway and has plenty of original moves to draw from.

I didn't recognize the name Heihachi but when I googled him, I was happy surprised with who I saw, I have good memories playing with him when I was younger.

The moves look like they have no impact. I was never able to get into MK because of that.

I dunno, early MK uppercuts win my vote for "most satisfying move in a video game".

The sound design in MK is superb. Probably the best sound in a fighting game. The hit stun animations usually don't look very good in the newer MKs.

That is actually incredibly disappointing, fighting games in this day and age should strive for at least 25-30 characters on release. (especially for a party game like this where variety is crucial)

What the fuck are you smoking. How the hell are new ip's supposed to just shit out 30 characters and keep the quality up with out clones

Nice trailer. Is it me or is there more color now?

The thing is, the game has always had color, but for some reason, whenever it's captured on video, it looks so bland.

Playing it in person at E3, I was surprised at how vibrant the colors are.

Heihachi and Toro are great additions. Toro looks really fricking awesome. I really can't wait to get my hands on this when it comes out.

It is a new IP, but it is also a crossover and I assume a game with a good sized budget. This isn't Skullgirls or BlazBlue where every character is 100% original and has their incredibly different gameplay mechanics. This is a party game with existing characters that already have established design and moves.

Not enough content! (Oh i'm sorry let's spoil the entire game)
Why aren't they revealing the obvious characters! (Really?!)

The complaints for this game are just fucking ludicrous.

Yeah, it looked washed out in a lot of videos, so that's good to hear. It's important for the colors in this game to pop.

Wanna bet? Square won't let that happen. No way. They own all their stuff and won't let it go "just in case one day WE make a fighting game like this."

Does this count? It's only FF but for a sequel they could probably bring in more SE games.

two things need to happen with Konami getting on board.
Snake and

I like the way you think. Would be nice if they could get his 1st VA back too.

It is not a copy & paste job. Yeah these characters exist and have things they do, but that means little more than idea fodder.

Since Square owns Lara too, I'd put money on both her and a FF character or two. I'll be shocked if Lightning isn't in.

If it didn't look like shit, that would probably help

Too bad it's actually fun to play.

Smash Bros doesn't exactly look like a bag of awesome when watching videos of it either. The Nintendo character factor is what draws you in. Then, you play the game, and you're like, "Holy fuck, this is awesome, and it happens to star some of my favorite Nintendo characters!"

PBR is the same way. In videos, it looks ok, like it could be fun, but it's not until you get your hands on it that it really shines. It really, truly, is a fun game to play, in the same vein of Smash Brothers, but different as well.

If you are a fan of PlayStation characters, it's hard to not be a little excited about it. If you are NOT a fan of PlayStation characters, well, then, why are you here? A game like this isn't going to convert you.

The thing that I loved/love about Smash Bros, is that it hooks you by having a character or two you might love. I'm not that big into Mario like I was in the 80's and 90's, but I love Metroid, and Zelda, and Earthbound, so the inclusion of characters from those series is what pulled me in. Then I started messing around with the other characters in the roster, some I was familiar with, others I just wasn't big into their series (ie, Star Fox).

For me, PBR has more characters from franchises that I'm fans of (God of War, Uncharted, Fat Princess, Killzone, PaRappa, Sly Cooper, etc), so the roster already has me pumped. Considering that franchises like Jak, Ratchet, inFAMOUS, and LBP are no-brainer inclusions, I'm already sold on this.

Third party characters like Snake, Lara Croft, and Cloud Strife are a bonus for me, while, for others, they would be the selling points.

I had a blast with this game, and I think it's stupendously unfair to write it off because of videos or trailers.

I've written off plenty of games because of poor video or demo showings, only to finally get my hands on them and learn that they were actually really awesome.

At least the stages are more colorful. But yeah, whoever said the art direction looks like a hot mess is right. They don't look like they belong at all.

Sony's not competent enough to get Cloud. This roster is utterly pathetic. It's too western dominated. It desperately needs guys like Cloud, Snake, and Sora to actually rival Smash.

What the heck is Toro?

Is he just a SCEJ thing? A guest character in 2 big fighting games I guess if SCEE and SCEA dont release whatever he is in soonish its kind of a missed chance.

Tekken guy is a good pick and Tekken is a good franchise you associate with playstation but shouldn't he have grey hair?
