just to say: what happened was indeed a horrific tragedy, and this is in no way meant to be insensitive. We all enjoy box office discussion, so let us do that, with all due respect.

WB releases 'Dark Knight' tally: $160.9 mil. Studio had suspended B.O. reporting out of respect for Aurora victims
It's official: "The Dark Knight Rises" earned $160.9 million in three days, making it the third-highest domestic bow ever.
Warner Bros. released Monday its final box office figures for Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight Rises" after deciding to suspend sending the usual weekend estimates, out of respect for the victims of the July 20 shooting in Aurora, Colo. The other majors, along with exhibs and B.O. aggregate Rentrak, joined WB in an unprecedented show of solidarity.
Even though "TDKR" became the biggest 2D release of all time, surpassing 2008's "The Dark Knight" ($158 million), Warners stayed respectively quiet about the milestone achievement.
Warners launched the film in 17 overseas territories, where it collected $88 million, including $4.8 million from Imax. Pic's domestic Imax contribution totaled $19 million, beating the mega-screen's previous opening record ($15.5 million) set by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."
There's no question that domestic B.O. for "The Dark Knight Rises" was affected by Friday's tragedy.
The Batman finale originally was expected to land in the $175 million range, which would have made it the second-highest domestic opening, behind "The Avengers" ($207 million), but ahead of "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" ($169 million).
Second to Batman this weekend, Fox's soph-sesh holdover "Ice Age: Continental Drift" grossed $20.4 million (off 56%) for a Stateside cume of $88.8 million, while Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" followed with $10.9 million, down 69% in its third Stateside frame, totaling $228.6 million domestically.
