I don't mind the mid-screen text too much, but it would be nice to have an option to remove it. I can understand why people wouldn't want it in MP, and I can't imagine it being hard to get rid of.

I think everyone should hold off on being worried about anything they see in those leaked pictures because:
1. they're leaked, and with no little-to-no context;
2. they're likely from an unfinished build.

I mean, who knows? Those seat designations could be for everyone as they're starting out. They could disappear after a certain amount of time. And there could be an option to turn them off, however unlikely you think that is.

Have fun with them, but don't jump to any conclusions.

I never said it was necessary. Cut out that snarky crap. I said it wasn't quite unnecessary. The gong plays a very important part of that feedback. 'Checkpoint completed' is much the same.
I just don't see why you're practically arguing against us having the option to turn it off.

Has anyone complaining about the middle of the screen text ever played a call of duty game post WaW?

Like, ever?

Because that shit is ALL OVER and I never notice it.
Yes, and I've never liked that UI.

I would love more audio options/notification options in console games. Just puttin' that out there.

I'd appreciate more customization in general. It seems like a lot of devs want everyone to play everything as THEY intended. Which I understand, but I feel that if I wanted to make a custom control scheme or change my HUD around I should be able to.

But the text appears above where you landed your precious headshot and dissipates rather quickly.

It's all too easy to point to a single screen and say what impact this will have on your vision but the reality is, it won't. Look at the MLG footage and find me a single case where the text caused the player to miss out on something happening where he was looking.

I'm not sure why you're allowed to speak in absolutes but when other people do it you jump on them. Regardless, watching footage of MLG players obviously proves nothing. The only people who know if the text distracted them are the people playing, not the people watching.

I'm not saying it will happen often. I'm just saying that if it happens to me even once it will be one time too often. And for what? For people who are too blind to look at the corner of the screen? Just give us a toggle (or let us move around HUD elements) and everyone is happy. It's that easy.

They said they don't notice it. I don't think I will either. Still, it'd be nice to be able to turn it off. Having the +10 numbers pop up I can understand. Let's you know what your kill was worth. But the DOUBLE KILL and stuff is unnecessary. We have medals for that.

Honeymoon phase.

Definitely agree about the redundant textual stuff. The numerics really are not a problem for me.

About the medals. I really hope they look better right now, cause they looked bad in the E3 build. They all looked so much alike and the blue color they had for the multi kill medals looked pretty bad.

I think I'm going to try bumping up my sensitivity today. I normally play on 4 and sometimes 3. I'm going to play on 7 tonight and see how it goes. My game really improved when I bumped up to 10 back in the Halo 3 days. I'll also be streaming tonight

The "you won't notice it" argument is terrible.

Noticing doesn't mean people bother to complain.
Arguably it is not that big deal but the text appearing on the side is simply better.

Also makes more sense fiction-wise, the Spartan's info feeds are probably on the sides unless they opt to move them to center to study them more closely.

Turning off things should be optional but I'm not going to lose sleep over it,

I actually quite like the headshot text and stuff, works well in CoD. People obviously have issues with it so making it optional would be great but its very likely not going to be a priority when the graphics on level 3 still need tightening a little bit.

Ellis said something about them being changed. I think i liked the reach medal's the best. Really dislike the Halo 4 ones we seen.

That blue is getting a bit Too much now

I didn't really notice and I hate the big yellow +100 crap in CoD. The game does a great job of communicating your actions without having to look at medals or text (at least for more hardcore players), so I ignored them for the most part. I can see why it would be handy for other types of players though.

I did find the announcements of assassinations and distractions to be, well, distracting. It was weird.

You could make the same argument about the announcer too. It is redundant to have a medal and then an announcement of that medal.

I think they are supposed to be like that because its VR simulation. Those medals look pretty VR-ish to me.
Whatever the case is, I'm not a fan of the new medal color scheme. I found them hard to make out.

EDIT: I hate Lion's autocorrect, it never makes logical choices...

Yep, though I wonder how much they'll be changed from the E3 build. I mean, designers have put work into those medals and I can't imagine them radically changing them.

Yeah i get that vibe as well, But i just don't feel the look of them, I loved the Gritty make over reach emblems got.

I think a better route would of been to make them look military in nature then shift the hue to blue so they look like some kind of UNSC scoring system. Currently its just a collection of symbols which i understand is poor criticism but still.

I liked how Gears 3 did medals with the Ribbon system (kind of like battlefield)

The medals seem kind of out of place with the rest of the theme.

That was my initial reaction but I don't know if its just because they are so different to what I'm used to.

Edit: For the record this is what other games are offering in terms of "screen candy"

It's because they're really cheery and happy in what's to be a serious game.

I could picture that its what the Spartans see post game after their training simulation. They should be all computery. I think that fits pretty well in the theme of whats going on in the Halo universe. Why am I talking about the Halo universe?

I think its a valid criticism if you just dont like the look but graphically it fits, least imo.

In the campaign something else might fit better...but I dunno if they even use medals in campaign anymore.

They can be computery and still be more dark. Just because it's a computer doesn't negate the color palette expressed visually.

Oddball. Oddball everywhere.

Does anyone know why my screenies don't pop up? I haven't played Reach since CE Anniversary but my screen shots sometimes pop up and sometimes they remained grayed out. Is this due to 343 taking over?

Not a big deal but I was just curious.

Problem with the current medals is that a lot of them look like each other, especially color-wise. You want to be able to see what medal you got in a quick glance and having medals be very different from each other visually helps a lot in that.

When watching the streams i was genuinely like "What the fuck is that" at some of the medals. While i understand with time id memorize them i still do not like the idea that i can get confused looking at the medals.

I actually like them. They look clean and simple.

I wish i had some kind of Anti bro fist.gif for you right now.

*Not a OS war post, just about autocorrect being on computer OS's*

I fucking love the autocorrect on Windows 8. I go back to a Windows 7 machine I'm raging because my common typos aren't just fixed. I can type so much faster with it.

As for the recurring text in the middle of the screen issue, I'll say what I've said before. Battlefield 3 literally fills the screen with text (worse than H4) and I don't notice it and it doesn't get in my way when I'm playing the game despite being all you see when you watch a video or see a screen, so I'm inclined that the same will be true for H4.

And you're playing campaign in which you fight braindead bots at the pace of a snail. In multiplayer having a clear view of what is in front of you is a lot more important than in other modes. Comparing MP and campaign in this regard is incredibly dumb.

That's being a bit generous. In my experience you can walk past most enemy encounters in Halo campaigns.

1) White text needs to be a toggle
2) BK Halo 4 propipe scrapped in favor of bringing Reach propipe back
3) Throw jetpack in the trash

Halo anyone? jelyk

In my opinion they look too... off. They all have the same colors, and don't really look like they should match the action that they're supposed to.

I half agree, i wish that 343 would use more colors, perhaps based on the extremity of the feat you preform, like what they did with commendations; Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Onyx, not necessarily those colors, but something like that that relays additional information. I'm not sure how they would go about doing that while making the medals distinct and unique, but it's an idea.
