Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Less than 50k is insane. Poor Vita :(

He didn't say it was <40K, so presumably not.

<200K in November/December? Wouldn't that be the equivalent of, say, <30K in a typical month? Lord knows I'm not sanguine about the system's prospects, but I have a hard time envisioning it doing that badly over the holidays... though if retailers aren't given cause to order many, who knows?

Yeah <200K in November/December is basically EOL.

NCAA did 600k + then ?

EA Sports is actually one of the few shining bright spots of the industry.

If anything is going to save the Vita in the US, and bear with me on this one, is Madden. The 20 - 30 somethings that commute to work are going to want it.

The system is doing marginally better in PAL territory right? FIFA over there is like Madden over here so if FIFA has gotten the commuters to buy, then you may be on to something.

However, most Americans drive to work as opposed to public transportation with the exception of some cities in the north east. So most Americans can't play their games on the way to work.

BREAKING or not
Vita < 50k

Retailers will be thinking right now about their Xmas orders, if you were a retailer would you order any vitas in?

Well, it's true that almost every time I've made a prediction for Vita that I thought was pessimistic, Sony has managed to fall short of it. We'll see.

...so, is August 28th included in the August NPD period, or will there be two NPD months in a row with no Vita retail releases?

Great device, wrong era. Sony's name isn't as strong in the marketplace as it used to be and there are too many other things that the average consumer can spend their money on. I'm a gamer, I buy virtually everything. Not everyone can do that. I love my Vita to death, day one purchaser here. However, I hear a concert with a fat lady singing.
Great device, no fucking developer support. And we haven't seen anything of Black Ops Vita, which will probably be pushed into 2013 with the way things are going.

Funny to think that the Wii U might actually be a year late in the grand scheme of things.

It may be coming out at the perfect time honestly, it might get a lot of people desperate for "next gen" and if it isn't too far behind PS4/Nextbox it could do very well for itself.

I ask again: Can you tell us if the PS3 is closer to 135k or 140k? Is the Wii closer to 65K or 70k?

Unit ranges of 5,000 units on either side are usually deemed acceptable for analysis and discussion. Unless Sony and/or Nintendo publicly share specifics, those of us with the data cannot provide anything more than guidance and ranges.

I know it's frustrating.

2012 has been such a depressing year for this industry. Fuck.

What a healthy industry! lol

The console generation is almost 7 years old, average console prices are higher than they used to be, and Nintendo and Sony decided now was the time to double the price of handhelds, what was there to expect?

And Vita, lol. It's going to be fun snapping up every game for the system I can over the next year or so at bargain prices.

Yeah, not to be mean, but I missed the firesales on consoles in the past and I won't miss this one. I just hope things haven't changed and it doesn't work like that anymore.

By the way, .gif posts are delivering at full capacity. I nearly choked on my dinner in laughter. It brings humor to what is a concerning scenario.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought vita was actually doing slightly worse in pal territories?

Joing among elite games like RE : ORC who did more then 600k i see ! :b.

It seems Feb has been only the decent month for the consoles and software as well [diablo aside]

I think things will pick up from August but i hope we get to see new ps3 model announcement soon.

Will add some life and drama to the npd thread

And unfortunately, with situations like the Vita and PSP, a range of 5K is a pretty significant chunk of its overall sales.

I suppose its just now starting to sink in. I am well aware of the Vitas troubles. But jesus christ man, thats some terrible "Did they announce a price drop + revision that I didnt hear about?" type of numbers man.

Don't forget about March with ME3, but yeah as a whole this has been a very slow year

Yes. Immediate price drops and big games are needed if they want to have a 'healthy' system.

imho 'healthy' it's wishful thinking at this point...

i don't really know what sony could do to turn this around... the system is performing extremely bad in every single region...

To this day I still wonder what the Sony executives were thinking when they decided to release the Vita. The whole thing is so predictable that nobody involved in that decision process deserve to keep their jobs.

As others have already said the market is obviously beyond ready for next generation consoles.

vita hardware numbers are just.. yeesh

3DS hardware isn't great either, but at least somewhat more excusable with the DS selling as much as it did. 3DS also (should) be picking up soon with the XL/NSMB2 combo and the fairly solid holiday lineup.

Nintendo knew when it was time to bail. Sony and MS waited too long, it's only going to hurt more from here on out.

They are giving it the PSPGo treatment. Eventually the PSPGo got a $50 price cut, but it was too late to regain momentum. The Vita needs a cut now, even if Sony will take a bigger loss on every unit sold. I think they aren't willing to do that just yet because they aren't confident enough that the software sales will bring them back in the black :/

And there is no high profile games this fall. Last year, 3DS had Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. AC3: Liberation isn't gonna cut it, unless it's an amazing game, and it probably won't because it's from Ubisoft Sofia.

Honestly, there's nothing they can do to save the Vita in the west. There's literally nothing I can even think of that could save it.

In Japan it would need some kind of Monster Hunter hit to put it on track, but even that seems like a long shot.

Yup, Wii U/720* should have been holidays 2011, PS4 this holidays, and 3DS/Vita early 2010 if you ask me.

* Maybe this holiday would have been ok, had Kinect not been used as a blowout for the 720 instead.

Understandable. Now if only we had a more accurate range for DS and 3DS...
