Yeah, although when they first started, Jackson would do his fake Egyptian thing over and over again. "Chuppai... we call it the "Stargate"". lol
Of course, SG-1 basically got put in a difficult position after they got bigger and started doing stories about trying to tell other worlds how to handle their affairs. In Star Trek land, I suppose it makes sense for humans to tell people what to do, but given that the SGC represented America and no other country, it was silly.

I don't see how this is unrealistic.

This is so reminiscent of something like Pinocchio or even Edward Scissorhands. The latter in particular actually as the upgrade for her birthday instantly reminded me of Vincent Price's scenes. Getting roped into the situation she did at the end was fucked up.

Yay! Someone started watching it! Now we just need to turn this into a trend. :D

Earth Maiden Arjuna - 02

The destruction continues, Juna summons a giant robot that fights the Raaja, Chris gets his pimp cane, slaps Juna, then goes into spirit form to fight the tentacles.

I can't tell if they cause the disaster or what though, the Raaja that is. Like, nobody can see it but chosen people it seems.

Some protects Chris with dual-bladed glowsticks while Chris fights.

The place explodes, but then doesn't, instead becoming ice it seems.

Apparently the Raaja are bron from the Earth's suffering. I wonder if this means that it's meant to destroy that which is harmful for the Earth instead of needing to be destroyed in the long run of things.

I need to understand the fascination of itadakimasu in the context of Arjuna.

Divergence Eve 10
Welp, there goes another one of the girls. I think the first girl to go got off easy where as this one gets
eaten alive by a hideous 3D model.
If it's any consolation, I think I understand the first episode somewhat now...
I should probably stop there for tonight unless I want to lose my sanity.

Americans tell people what to do on Earth, it stands to reason they would tell people what to do on other worlds too.

Juna sees God or something by making an Earth Sympathy wave and the Boyfriend guy goes camping to find his waifu in the woods.

I think Juna is slowly becoming one with the Earth... Buy why is this whole forest like, burned down? Time to fight the Raaja with the aura wave while Chris goes to spirit fight with Juna, instead telling her not to kill the creature. Not sure why he does though.

Why give her the power if she doesn't do it the way you want to?

The Earth is in a bad state.

At first it looked like the doves flew into the chandelier and exploded.
A fun SAO 3 thing (is an episode spoiler)

Pffffhahahaha
Between this and that one scene in Accel world about MMOs ending I think the author might actually have some sort of bizarre emotional connection with NPC's.
It takes a truly one of a kind person to write truly one of a kind stories. We should consider ourselves blessed to be living in the same era as Reki Kawahara.
Divergence Eve 9

Man this show is depressing. No wonder the ED is all peppy and cheerful.
You're really making this show seem interesting. Don't be too spoilery with the images!

It seems there are many breasts in Divergence Eve. Big, bouncy ones. It also apparently has some kind of serious sci-fi story too.

Okay, I admit it. They had me at big breasts. I'll look into this.

Juna eats shrooms in the forest and convulses/gets high. Boyfriend and Juna get stuck in the forest with no gas, and then fight bugs in a garden, and are asked why they kill, then given no food.

Boyfriend gets cockblocked by an insect, and then they all learn that the insects actually eat the bad parts of plants to save them, which earns them food to eat.

Suddenly, Juna sees herself dancing on the shadows of the fish and everyone else in all of the food.

She is the food, the food is her. Everything is one; to be used and to return to the Earth.

Wait... the Raaja spreading insecticide was actually a helicopter? So does this mean that she's actually killing people that are killing the Earth?

The burnt forest is a reference to the Khandava Forest in the Bhagavad Ghita, the original story of Arjuna which the show is based on. I can't remember the specifics of episode 3 (if I recall they blame the dead forest on mankind, unsurprisingly, given that it's Arjuna) but in the original Bhagavad Ghita the Khandava Forest was infected with sickness and needed to be cleansed with fire.

Interesting. I had no idea.

Yeah I saw this around the time I watched Saikano too. I must have been in a depression anime phase. Not DEPRESSED just watching depressing anime.

Crazy Girl Anime

Pillow Girl aka Kumin is best girl.

Good.

Dat Zettai Ryouiki.

Same here........because she looks and reminds me of Kanna. :(

They got the zettai ryouiki ratio incorrect.
I will have to dock points for that :(
Hopefully its just the picture.

Glass Fleet - Legend of the Wind of the Universe 01

The attire, the unabashed use of unsightly graphics, a voice acting direction that calls for phrases along the lines of "Indubitably!" and "I do declare!" Yeah, I'm going to watch more of this.

Notable moments not yet mentioned: Man falls in a straight horizontal line as if scripted in PowerPoint and "Fireworks! Launch the fireworks!"

It makes me sad to see Glass Fleet posts.

I was genuinely really excited about Glass Fleet when it was announced. The original visual for the show was fantastic - you can still see some of okama's art on the show's website - and it just seemed like it could be a really exciting space opera.

Instead, it was possibly one of the most LOL GONZO shows I've ever seen. I did end up appreciating it for its awfulness, but man, the wasted opportunity :(

Here, we learn a little more about Michel, who it turns out is actually French. Or maybe Quebecois?

ibvJMPWoiquz8x.png

I don't speak French, but judging by the English homonyms in this letter, I'm fairly confident the words here have no relation to the letter's canon content. So I'm curious what the letter shown here says.

Anyway, this episode did a good job of acknowledging a lot of the circumstances from last epiosde, and building them into Michel's character. He's kind of whiny and uncommunicative, but it's fitting, as he seems the most immature of anyone on the team, and he's in a rough situation.

This episode lays the groundwork for some themes about love that will likely become more prominent as the series progresses. I think this is probably the first time someone seriously acknowledges the circumstances surrounding Shirou's Zeon watch.

This is also why giant walking robots will never see use on a real battlefield. Bipedal locomotion is far more vulnerable to disruption than good old wheels or treads.

It'll be hard for me to wait until next week, but I will be patient.

Here is what the letter says:
Dear mickael ,
Nowadays , it's raining a lot in our hometown.
As i hate wandering under the rain , i'll use that time to work properly at home.
I am proud to be able to [tell you that] i'm easily able to read french news [can't decipher] ( french word badly used in context)
There is in japan plenty of translations of french novels but i prefer reading them directly in french.

B.B.

The bolded is words missing from the page but going by the surronding words and the sentence , this is what it means.

EDIT : figured the last word ( what a bad /weird ) sentence

"Michel!" "Michel!" "Michel over here!" "Michel!"

The assistant is tried from being constantly reminded of his duty as a teammate, when his mind is nigh always focused on his penpal/sweetheart, B.B.

zt9FO.png

Well, boy has to have something to hold him off!
(Though those could also belong to Eledore)

Kiki understands Michel's plight, but Shiro has a hard time feeling sympathetic while a mission is at hand. Of course, a little in-fighting ensues.

O3FQT.png

The Lone Kiki

Also another vocal musical number used in the last stretch. It added to the group chucking over
Eledore's nature
, therefore not too misplaced.

Anyone who has skimmed these can tell I didn't have much to say about this episode besides the fact that it's Michel focused. It defines what he finds important in life and the current struggle he is facing with that passion. Meanwhile, Shiro has his own feelings to deal with
(and Kiki her's)
. An alright episode all in all.

Actually, SG-1 was on the verge of cancellation starting with season 5. The only time they "went for it" with a cliffhanger ending was season 10... which was when they got canned. Go figure.

I do find it funny that on Atlantis, the most important guy was a Canadian. lol

Was it all the way back to season five? Wow, I guess you have to give them credit for keeping the show going so long then. Speaking of Canadian,I saw the two movies that came out afterwards and in one they are in a ship in the arctic where Daniel is mentioning each time there is a temperature drop.

Even though all the characters are American and he never asks at any other point before, when Daniel gets to minus forty Mitchell asks "Fahrenheit or Celsius?" to which Daniel replies they're the same at that temperature. The fact of how they did that just made me really roll my eyes.

I guess for me, they're adults in a fantasy world though. Like, Jormungand has nearly an all adult cast as well, but very few people are dealing with the massacre of their military unit or ex-mafia guys or whatever the backstory is for the other characters.

The only anime that I can think of about adults in the real world are all noitaminA shows. (Yes, I count Ristorante Paradiso in that group, duckroll :p)

Oh, and I suppose those BL shows centered around the Sekai-ichii Hatsukoi franchise. But they're not real human beings either. lol

It's weird. I don't really like Modern Family any more, but if there was an anime that tried to do the exact same thing, it'd probably be my favourite thing ever. lol
Like, what if an older Japanese divorcee married a Filipino woman and had to remember how to be a father again because she was a single mother? What would his kids think about the marriage? What if one of his kids were gay? I'd be happy if an anime even gestured at doing something a bit more socially aware even off handedly.

(Of course, the answer is that I should watch more jdrama because that's where all the adult stuff goes. But I really don't want to do that. :p)

Okay, I guess I can see that stance towards shows like Fate/Zero.

Yeah, going back to Anime melodramatising matters I found that even in American shows, like a sitcom, focusing on teenagers or the teenage characters really did the same thing. I found it kind of annoying, yet on the other hand actually quite true. When I was in highschool I noticed how many of the kids would dramatize the same smallest things.

Even Family Guy in one episode where Peter or Stewie goes to highschool there is a song they make up that ends with the line "These problems matter." Poking fun at how teenagers are.

On the topic of Sawa
purging
, talking about the ramifications of those actions I can see as a mature topic but just the performance of those actions in general, to me, aren't very mature. To me it's maybe kind of like when people purposely, temporarily cut off the oxygen or blood supply to their brain as a way to get high. Again, how to deal with these actions might be a mature topic but just doing it in general to me is the opposite. You're not showing you're mature at all and able to handle things.

I guess we'll probably never get those types of shows that really deal with these topics and have to be satisfied with the odd show like Usagi Drop that somewhat deals with more mature themes but still has some anime trademarks about it.

You might consider watching Human Crossing (Ningen Kousaten), a series from 2003. It takes a selection of stories from the long-running manga and adapts them - it's not particularly well animated, but each episode is a different self-contained story about real people with real life problems.

Not sure how the TV show went, but I enjoyed what I read of the comics.

I don't think I've heard of that one before, thanks BluWacky, I'll have to add it to my list of shows to take a look at.

I still like shows that focus on cute things or wacky harem hijinks as much as the next person but sometimes it's nice to watch a show that goes into a bit more mature topic like Usagi Drop or Hourou Musuko. Or sometimes a show like this seasons Natsuyuki Rendezvous where it adds that supernatural element, I find is even more interesting because of it. It kind of reminds me a bit of the movie Ghost.

This looks very interesting, will have to watch it someday.

Rinne no Lagrange 5-6

Muginami is an idiot, confirmed. And not in a cute way.

Hadn't mentioned this before but I do like the OP quite a bit. Pretty cool animation and the song's catchy.
