Well, the AI (audience impressions) has been adjusted since Lady Gaga's update, so it's larger than before. In addition, Taylor also has a radio deal. She also has a larger format appeal than Gaga, as she has country radio behind her.

In summary, this circus of fireworks and feigned surprise won't translate into sustained chart longevity tbh

She did have a radio deal. All these people debuting over 10AI had a radio deal.

The thing is Taylor has top 40 appeal, Adult Contemporary appeal and Country appeal. She has more formats behind her.

If I've been understanding radio deals correctly (essentially "paying" radio stations to prioritize your music), then I think it's one of the shadiest things about the music industry these days.

Although I'm probably wrong about exactly how it works. Thoughts, ITZ? Seeing as you're officially the resident Maven of Radio around these parts.

yeah, its why I hope radio loses some of its percentage in the Billboard Hot 100 to streaming in the near future.

Eaux, KISS FM in LA is shady. Ever since Kelly Clarkson publicly criticized Clive Davis 5 years ago they refuse to play any of her songs unless the song becomes too massive to deny (My Life Would Suck Without You, Stronger). It wouldn't be too big a deal if it wasn't the second biggest radio station in the US.

Luckily Z100 seems to worship the ground underneath Kelly's feet so that makes up for it...sort of.

Well its not really shady. KISS is TOP 40 so they basically will play the songs that are popular in the USA.

Although there does seem to be a certain "blacklist" of artists there. I remember the reason they didnt play Moves Like Jagger until it was undeniable was because it featured Xtina. Apparently she pulled a Minaj (cancelling at the last minute) with a KISS FM festival once and they blacklisted her.

I think they're cool now tho as major radio programmers are hyping up "Your Body".

I haven't heard anything. Then again, I rarely listen to the radio these days. Usually only when I'm in the car and forgot my ipod...AND don't feel like draining my phone battery streaming spotify.

Poor, brave radio.

Either way the itunes charts dont lie. The Taylor Swift song is INCREDIBLY POPULAR. Even if she didnt have radio behind her, she'd still debut TOP 5.

Call Me Maybe has been #1 for weeks. Wide Awake was almost #1. Flo Rida will probably be #1. And Taylor will eventually be #1.

What is happening. Definitely not liking this trend.

Sales-age needs to accept that quality does not always rise to the top and that CRJ is clearly a pop queen.
