Capcom announced "Remember Me"

Liking the setting and style of the interface. Reminds me of Mirror's Edge and Syndicate. As for the game, still going to wait and see. If they can present a believable world, even if the game isn't so good, I'd still consider buying it.

Sorry if this was mentioned already, but is this game a QTE like Heavy Rain? Judging from the scenarios during the memory scene, I'm thinking it is.

Looks interesting, though.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Yeah, it looks nothing like PN03 outside dat ass and some acrobatic moves. Superficial similarities to say the least.

Now all I want is a PN03 sequel. Why must people keep putting salt in my wound by mentioning it, even for the wrong reasons?

Every time I see the title of this game.

Why has no on mentioned Inception? And is this the first game to be influenced by it?

No, because it's not.

Inception is about implanting and liberating ideas in dreams. Remember Me concerns memories; their trade and alteration.

That said, the game can be compared to quite a few other things. The closest being Total Recall, I think.

Either way, it's still getting in someone's mind and changing things in order to get them to do something they weren't going to do. This mechanic is definitely inspired by Inception.

The dialogue is horrendous. Like retarded-horrendous.

And apparently it is entirely okay for the law enforcement to constantly open fire with a VTOL in a densely populated city area in order to catch a wanted person. It's such a ridiculous premise that I have no idea how anyone on the development team thought it would make any form of sense.

Combat looked cool and the "memory kills" seemed like a nice idea.

Yeah, holy crow, that was even worse than I imagined from the first trailer.

I've gone from cautiously optimistic to bemused and amused by what's been shown of this in pretty short order. The more I see, the more I can hardly imagine this isn't deliberately trying to emulate every cyberpunk bomb in the last 20 years, or that someone thought these pieces worked together as anything but formulaic satire.

I have a hard time believing that as an adult sci-fi and action game fan I am not the target audience for this, unless I'm just too old. To that end, the sum total of what they've shown thus far leaves me basically imagining this as their concept process:

  • We need a futuristic city, so let's go the ironic route and choose a city that would never change it's name to Neo anything.
  • We need a protagonist. What are the geek hotbuttons? Female of course. Ok, wherever she's from, she has to sound British, at least to an American. Tight pants, check. Swearing one-liners, check. Acrobatic, check. Give her some floating glowy shit too, like Tron or something. Let's just throw in a Mass Effect Omnitool, that'll work, they'll eat that up. Awesome, we made Joanna Croft Shepard! Beck Dark for everyone!
  • Anyone have a better idea than amnesia to drop someone into a mystery as a blank slate while maintaining full combat training? Ok, that's cool, anyone who's ever watched a sci-fi TV show for the last 50 years will be cool with this, and we'll just build the whole backstory around it.
  • Needs to be cinematic. Someone make a soundtrack that sounds like Michael Bay spanking John Williams. Doesn't have to fit the theme or circumstance taking place in any scene, just has to be orchestral and boom a lot with robots singing and shit. I don't want someone taking a piss in this game without it sounding like they're storming the Death Star. Also, get some buzzing noises from a Transformers trailer. We'll fill in the gaps between combat with automatic cutscenes every 3 minutes and some guided platforming.
The only really interesting thing I've seen is the combat, and even that so far looks like a mashup of other games, with a flashy memory wipe finisher thrown in to remind you what game you're playing.

I hate to be harsh, especially if the attempt to make B-grade sci-fi material here is intentional. Capcom won me back to some extent with Dragon's Dogma, so I feel like I should support any new IP of theirs, but I feel like they've shown too much of their hand here and I'm forced to call their bluff. My only hope now is this is from some opening tutorial stage and the rest of the game it totally different. I'll certainly be following this, either for the sake of being completely surprised, or for schadenfreude.

Wow, the trailer of gameplay in the OP, looked pretty awesome. The trailer above looks pretty tragic though... Definitely a watch this space game..

I need to be able to fall and die in this platforming and take alternative paths. This game would be awesome if it was sandbox and free form like Red Dead. Please fix the platforming I hate scripted platforming. Also they need to stop taking control away from the player to show us a cutscene. I hate that too.

I was precisely thinking about PS:T (or Silent Hill 2 for that matter), where the hallmarks of game storytelling actually uses the amnesia trope, in relation to countering my notion. But these games are so incredible in their narrative that they work as excellent stories *despite* their use of an incredibly tired narrative device. So that's more of a testament to how well executed their narratives are, rather than a criticism of the games themselves.

As it is, I would still say that the amnesia trope detracts from the narrative and should be avoided if you are writing a story in any medium.

Consider the fact that this particular point of view has been chosen. Cf. Male gaze.
Trope trope trope. Ever since Sarkeesian used that word and got everybody's attention I swear I'm seeing it everywhere.

I'm also seeing this sexualisation argument everywhere. For crying out loud, it's just a boxart with a cool pose. It has been used in the past, for both females and males alike, on game boxes, DVD cases, book covers, all sorts.

I was watching the trailer and gameplay thinking "wow, this looks like a game where a strong, intelligent, down-to-earth, and above all respectable woman is the protagonist. Maybe people are finally taking steps to tackle this whole issue and representing women in a non-sexual way."

But then of course, the box art has to be wrong, and I'm sure there will be a whole host of other things that debase women. It's just getting ridiculous.

Shitty dialogue. Get better writers. Overall it looks okay so far. I'll keep an eye on it. Anyone else get that AssCreed vibe? With the sneaking and wall climbing and "assassination" stuff.

Love everything about this game. Every little detail. The assassination scene gave me great Ghost Trick vibes. Not saying that it will turn out good in the end, but I'm rooting for this one.

Just watched the trailer.

Definitively getting some total recall vibes. Looks a bit rough around the edges though?
Still, interesting.

.

The word "Trope" existed in the English language before Sarkeesian used it and many people have used before. Maybe you are just paying more attention to it whenever people use it? And I was referring to the Amnesia trope, which I don't see is related to Sarkeesian's umbrella definition of Female Tropes.

People are referring specifically to the box art and how its placement of the view on the main character has been specifically chosen, not the trailer or the gameplay video.

The view in the box art is not incidental, because obviously the box art of a game isn't just some random and non-contemplated visual choices. I'm not saying it's the most sexist thing out there and I'm certainly not up in arms about it at all, but I certainly think it's a deliberate choice of point of view by PR or whoever designed the box art.

To corroborate my point, just look at the amount of posts in this thread stating "dat ass." Obviously the box art highlights this particular aspect of the body, since I think not many people would have noticed that her ass just by seeing the gameplay videos. Whether or not it is intentional, the position of the view certainly motivates a particular sexual reading of the character (again, only talking about the box art, not the videos we've seen).

Probably, but I really haven't seen used that often though I do remember the TV tropes site. When I looked it up seems like trope's meaning got modified to become a cliche and then got modified again to mean a stereotype or convention (as in conventional type of female). Really wish it would go back to being convention.

desclaimer: Silent HIll 2 is probably my favorite game.

It came out in 2001, the amnesia trope wasn't as tired as it is now, so i'm not sure it's much its narrative that make it sufferable, as much as it is it coming out 11 years ago.
Were it to be released today, it would get shitted on for it, despite its narrative.

You could argue that the trope was already tired in 2001, but probably not as much.

How is she oversexualized? Her ass isn't even thick. All I see is normal female tight jeans on a flat booty.

I don't get the hate towards the dialogue. It isn't great, but it's really not worse than most games.
It's not worse than most games, but the setting and idea are much more interesting so people care more I guess.

I feel the same. Well, almost -- I love everything except the dialogue.
