They actually bothered to come up with a plot for this episode? It's no Ladies X Butlers! special, but it's close.
The little plot there was didn't even get resolved at the end. Oh well, it's not like I watch this show for the plot much anyways.

That was kind of dumb.

No clue who anyone is, what's going on, why they're on a floating ship, why are the boobs xbox huge, what's that holographic shit everyone has, why is that guy trying to ask out a dead chick, why was there a demon dude there, why were there a bunch of weird looking people that looked nothing like the students?

Yeah, that's about it.

It's been awhile since I've seen some of the earlier episodes and I'll have to give them a re-watch, so I don't remember all of the details but I can try to help you out if you're interested in the show.

--Honestly I can't remember why Mushashi is a on a ship, I just accepted the fact that it is a city ship. It could be due to there not being as much land available due to what happens in the back-story prior to the first episode.

--Why many of the girls busts are so big I think is "just because". Pretty much that's the way the original character designer wanted to design them to look for whatever their personal reasons might be.

--The "holographic things" are Sign or Display Frames that show the status of or can be used to activate an ability, be it offensive, defensive or just for general communication purposes. Some abilities work with Ether, which is a substance that exists in the air and is sometimes concentrated along "Ether veins" or some are activated through offerings such as a certain monetary value. I think they go into more detail how this works in subsequent episodes or you just sort of figure it out through observation as you go.

--As far as visiting with the deceased girl, this is further explained as you watch the show.

--Regarding the demon fellow and the others who don't look like students, they are still supposed to be students. It might seem strange but it's certainly more interesting than other shows where the classmates look very similar and are rather just background objects without many details. I personally like that they are all given unique names, looks and personalities and are actually focused somewhat upon, at least initially in the story.

The show does start off with quite a bit of information thrown at you but at the same time you have things like the chase in episode one which makes things interesting to see too such as glimpses of the characters personality types and how abilities work.

I just dug up more stuff thanks to a lead on 2ch. The animation character designer is probably Kyoji Asano, and the production of the show will be handled by Wit Studio.

What is the difference between "entertaining" and "engaging"?

Entertaining means fun and enjoyable. Engaging means meaningful and thought-provoking.

I doubt anyone besides serious emotional masochists finds Graveyard of the Fireflies entertaining, but it's for damn sure engaging.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 39 - END

Well, that was the best show ever.

It's really hard for me to try to write coherently about the ending. That last episode was an insane roller-coaster of emotion. Great music, great imagery and a really perfect conclusion.

In the end, things couldn't turn out perfectly. But Utena demonstrated that she was willing to accept Anthy with all of her flaws, and her tears were able to open the path to eternity, and break Anthy out of her coffin. Maybe Utena has now taken on the burden of suffering (Reaching eternity, she can't exist in this world. Something something Kierkegaard), but she succeeded in her goal of freeing Anthy.

10/10 awesomeness. Thank you everyone who encouraged me to watch and who helped me understand what was happening. I'll watch the movie in a while, but not right now. I think my head would explode if I tried.


Now go and watch the movie!

It has my express seal of approval and damn when the creation tool hits the Internet the doujinshi community is going to go apeshit in awesome and glorious ways.

Let's throw out those two words and bring in something more clear: pleasurable. All good works of art are pleasurable. No, you cannot have art that is both unpleasurable and good. Unpleasurable art is bad art. To say that some art is "meant" to be unpleasurable is nothing more than a defense of bad art. If it brings you pleasure, then for you, it was good. If one thing brings you more pleasure than the other, then for you, that thing is better. Don't deceive yourself!

I felt like bringing up this topic today because recently I've seen a lot of people talking about a video game called Spec Ops: The Line. The consensus seems to be that a) the game isn't fun and will make you feel terrible and b) it's a highly recommended, must-play experience.

There was some backlash from people who, like you, believed that a game that isn't fun is can't be worthwhile. I felt like exploring these themes further in a place where a similar topic had come up before.

I'm not oversimplifying, though. I am merely getting straight to the point. Pleasure is a complex thing.

The backlash is correct.

But, what is "not fun"? Are the mechanics poor? That means it is a bad game.
