This reminds me of MvC 3's character announcements and the slow, uncomfortable realization that Lupinko was right and the roster really was as bad as what he had leaked, even though many people couldn't believe it at the time.

I'm torn between trying to keep my hopes up and just saying screw it and not having any expectations at all anymore. :p

Yeah and that disappointing roster was exactly why I passed on MvC3. But then Rocket Racoon and Pheonix Wright got announced for UMvC3 and I literally bought it day one. Two characters additional characters was really all it took. I didn't even know who Rocket Raccoon was, as did pretty much everyone but the hardcore Marvel fans, but he was such a cool character with a great moveset that pretty much everyone loved his inclusion into the game. And I loved it because it gave me insight into a side of marvel I've never seen before.

I guess Fat Princess is their "who is that" character. All my friends that I have shown the beta to had no idea who she is. But all I can really say is she's the flag in a class based capture the flag mode. Really she's just a poor character in general and I don't think people get excited for her if they knew who she was or didn't know.

Now an everyday teenage, slightly clumsy, girl super hero that can control gravity and fights only with kicks, or a rabbit robot that uses jumping attacks and really crazy projectiles, those would have been a great "who is that" characters, the type that sparks this as a roster as one that has (pardon the pun) character, and not just one they thought would make them the most money.

I just wish it didn't look like smash bros.

And someone at superbot is on here right? Can you fix Spikes portrait? It just looks weird.

It doesn't play like Smash Bros. So there's that.

For me, it's more important that the game has it's own identity compared to Smash Bros, and it does, despite the visual similarities.

Vandal Hearts looks like Final Fantasy Tactics at a glance, right? But both games are very different. I just don't get why looking like Smash is this big sticking point with this game. So many other games that share genres often look like one another. Sleeping Dogs looks like Just Cause 2 or any GTA after San Andreas, but nobody goes on protests (not saying you are going on protest, of course).

Smash and PBR share a genre. There are other games in this genre as well. They all share visual similarities (wasn't there a Ninja Turtles one and a Ben 10 or Cartoon Network one that actually tried to ape the entire SSB formula?), but as long as the game play is fun, is that really that big of a deal?

the thing with UmvC3 is that it got every character I wanted in the game besides Howard the duck.

I was sick with glee when they Showed Ghost rider, I went and pre-ordered it the moment I could.

Frank West and Phoenix Wright were all I needed to get UMVC3. Too bad I suck at those kinds of fighters.

I don't know if there are any characters left that would really make me hyped, I pretty much got all I really wanted. Kat, Crash, or Snake would be nice though. Robbit or Rudy would be good throwback characters.

So I played the build they had at Fan Expo Today it was the same one they brought to EVO I believe.

First off honestly the game looked really good visually. I don't know why but Sony's Bravia TV's makes their games look sooo good. I even remember saying the same thing last year playing Twisted Metal. It even looked more polished visually than Injustice Gods Among Us. I thought that the Dojo was gonna look akward visually but it didn't at all everything looked so smooth.

Anyways I gave Drake a spin and I can definitely see myself using him in the future. He doesn't seem as long ranged as I thought originally he's more accurately a close-mid range fighter. He has very simple strike combos that you can pull them off with his square buttons. I also think he has a grenade throw on one of his square directions. His up triangle does a grenade launcher shot the comes out at an angle that can be used as an anti air. I actually didn't focus on his guns that much which was kinda odd considering the kind of game that Drake comes from. His down circle in the air is that move that has the floor collapsing it actually moves pretty slow. I think his down Triangle was the turret which moves pretty slow as well so It can't be abused really. He had the zipline that was very useful and also the rope swing AK blast for navigation/combat abilies. I unfortunately never thought to try the cover system at all. His level 1 is really satisfying to land since it has a delay effect.

I Also tried Toro as I dont believe many people have given impressions of him so far. He seemed really cool his stance change is on the circle button and its also tied to a move. So for instance one I remember is his forward circle he comes out throwing ninja stars and he goes into Torobi (MK) stance. You can also do the sliding attack that will launch your opponents then connect again with a bicycle kick its pretty cool. Oni has a hadoken like attack that you can charge up, a shoryuken, and a hurricane kick equivalent. I didn't spend much time with Justice but it seemed like your normal striking type moveset. One thing I noticed is in the earlier builds (I don't know if this is an issue now) he is really easy to lose track of especially when you have Big Daddy's and other characters like that running around. This was apparent when I did his Level 1 Super I actually didn't even know it activated and because he gets kicked by Kuro which launches him a pretty far distance from where he started I lost him for a couple seconds; I did however kill everyone with it.

Off Topic

I also got to play the Single Player portion of GOW Ascension, Injustice Gods Among Us, and LBP Karting

Ascension was really good and yeah it was basically the E3 demo. It seems slightly harder then other GOW games and not in the you take less damage sort of way just the enemies put up more of a challenge. The combat is a lot more flashy and stylish then past GOW games it reminds me of Devil May Cry in that sort of way. Also it seems like there is alot to play around with, in terms of combat and combos with all the new systems that they've added to this iteration.

What about the visuals?also did psabr looked native 1080p?

Psabr looked the sharpest of all the games I played even GOW. I couldn't accurately tell you if it was 1080p based off the time I had with it however I'm leaning more towards it is. GOW visuals are just as amazing as as you would expect maybe even more. I figured there was no need to mention them because everyone knows how good they look already lol. But yeah that game truly looks stunning.

You'd think it was the opposite because most of his weapons are back to basics now. :x Thanks for the impressions!

A very mean Gaffer in the Jap release thread :(.

I want to try Toro out lol. I hope the game is present over here when we have game expo in early november. Just in time for hype before launch :).
I hope there's a pre release demo having kratos, still haven't played this damn game

Off Topic: I hope they bundle a TLOU demo with GoW:A.

On topic: When is PAX? What reveals do you guys think we will get?
It will probably be the rest of the leaked characters. :(

I don't want this to happen unless Naughty Dog goes over that demo again and again to make sure that there isn't any extra code that spoils the story, characters, locations etc. That's been a major problem with demos throughout this gen.

You could just ... not read the leak?

The people that are actually glad that it doesn't play like Smash, have you played it? Because to me, I wish it a direct rip off of Smash in terms of how you kill people. I've played this exact type of game too many times to ever consider it anywhere near the fun as Smash..

I play the beta all the time. I don't really think about it. The super system works and is good imo but I wouldn't complain even if it was 100% ripoff. I like both systems.

I ALMOST picked up UMvC 3 for Phoenix Wright, but then I snapped back to my senses and realized that Capcom was still leaving their mascot -- who deserved to be in there over so many other characters -- out of the "ultimate cross-over battle" or whatever their PR people were calling it. Even though I do love Amaterasu and really enjoyed using her in both versions of the game.

And then they poured salt in the wound by making X a costume for Zero.

So yeah, needless to say, I definitely did not give Capcom any money for either version of that game.

But whatever, the MvC 3 debacle's been discussed to death; I don't want to go too far off-topic.

Basically, to reiterate: TheMink's PSASBR leak is reminding me of Lupinko's MvC 3 leak and how people were hoping for any sign that the leak wasn't accurate and that the roster wasn't going to be as disappointing as it actually ended up being. All we can do now is wait, I guess.

At least there's PaRappa! PaRappa makes anything awesome.

Yeah, lets end the whole UMVC3 deal here haha, if I expressed my opinions in regards to that particular issue, it might open a can of worms, as it differs radically from yours.

Anyways, they better have something to show at PAX. Because I'm hyped up for it.

Haha yeah, sounds good. And I definitely concede that my stance on that particular issue is not necessarily the appropriate one from a hardcore fighting game enthusiast's point of view (which I'm not), so I understand the different ways of looking at the issue, and they're all perfectly valid.

But yeah, PSASBR. Really hoping for some surprise announcements that disprove TheMink's source... here's hoping. But if not, getting a
Raiden
reveal would be cool, as I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays.

Parappa and Fat Princess definitely have a lot of soul to them; their moves fit them, the voices, the quotes, FP's squeals when she gets hit all add flavor to them. It would be even better if Parappa did some kung fu shouting during some of his attacks, but hearing some of his classic rap lyrics more than makes it up for it.

Kratos is also spot-on; yells and shouts are all there and he isn't as chatty after killing characters because that isn't his thing, sending people to another dimension isn't anything new for him.

Sweet Tooth and Radec are pretty silent for the most part (specially Radec), but that's because they're creepy cold-blooded killers, shouting isn't part of their M.O. Radec isn't drive by rage, it would be strange if he yelled RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH while firing off his level 2 chemical snot beam.

I'm not gonna describe Sly Cooper, that bitch doesn't even deserve a full sent

Talking about the positive things only makes it harder to accept that they dropped the ball and so many other aesthetics. :|

I hear you man. I truly wish we could even hope to see him in a PSAS, SSB, *vC game, or even (gasp) a mega man game. I really don't understand why Capcom has chosen to let that ship sail.

I was hoping for some surprise announcements at gamescon, then they didnt even change their reveals to something that wasnt leaked. Which i thought was odd...
It unfortunately makes sense that there arent any more on disk characters because if that wasnt the case then why wouldnt they just change the reveal to something that we didnt know?

But heres to hoping.

Not that there's anything wrong with pointing out the negatives. Hopefully they'll actually see where they went wrong next time.

My worry is that if the presentation isn't up to par, the game might not sell well enough for a sequel, hence why I want them to do as much as they can to get the game looking right now. They might not get another chance

That's possible. Doesn't seem like they're fully confident enough if they're not spending too much on it.

Well to be fair free digital vita version was definately a nice surprise. I don't even own a vita yet but its super nice bonus to have this and other games for future portable play.

Yeah! That was crazy awesome especially because i own a vita.

I just meant characters wise.

If they have characters that are not leaked it makes more sense (to me at least) to reveal them when they are announcing 2 character like usual. They pretty much allready promised 4 reveals for gamescom and I think it makes sense to use the leaked characters.

True, and besides, whenever they reveal a character, it does more than just show they are in the game. We also get to see their moveset and supers.

But by using only what was leaked, it gives people (wrongly or not) the impression that they know all the characters/stages in the game. It inadvertently kills hype since there is a lot less to look forward to

If they had shown something that hadn't been revealed yet, it keeps people guessing. Gives them something to anticipate, and maybe wonder that there is a lot more to be revealed

The budget for the game. Of course, if the game does really well, we can expect for them to go all-out next time.

Having a vita version pretty much means they will be closed down as soon as they ship.

seriously tho I hope the game is a success and we get a fast sequel for PS4 with a bigger budget now that the core mechanics and such are in place. Maybe around~late 2014-early2015. A man can dream ^^.

Having to wait for a sequel to play as the legendary hero is going to be excruciating. I was looking forward to seeing him in the same roster as Nariko and Big Daddy, who may or may not even make it in the next game.

Are we talking about Snake? Well to be fair if he aint a playable character I would be surprised if he doesn't show up as DLC (at least as Big Boss just in time to market MGS5 lol). Who knows tho.
