I wonder if Ubisoft has considered commissioning a Rayman cartoon to build up interest in the character from a potentially younger fanbase.

Looks amazing indeed. Probably even prefer this art style to Origins.

Certain stages? Yeah me too. Of course we have only seen a tip of what either game has to offer in terms of art style. Which is great, half of what make those games fun is the discovery of new levels / bosses.

They attempted a CGI cartoon in the late 90's which had Billy West voicing Rayman.

It was pretty awful, had next to nothing to do with the games and lasted four episodes. Same company that did the similarly bad DKC cartoon.

I still have yet to play Rayman Origins, but this game looks fantastic aesthetically. I hope those tacked on touch screen controls are optional, though.

Speaking of New Super Mario Bros U, is there any confirmed verticality and/or secret levels in it? So sick of going left to right in my NSMB games (I know NSMB2 fixes this, but I don't want that, I want NSMBU!).

NSMBW had a ton of vertical levels and an entire secret world (if you don't count levels you can only get to via secret exits as 'secret'), so I personally wouldn't worry about them not being in NSMBU.

It is pretty unfortunate the first chunk of this thread is mostly Legends Vs Super Mario U debates when both look excellent for different reasons.

I'm not necessarily talking about the Vertical levels themselves.

I'm mostly talking about levels where, for instance, you can fly into the sky and find a secret cloud or door/pipe or something. Similar to what SMB3/World did. I just didn't like how strictly linear everything in NSMB1 and Wii were.

Luckily, they're intergal to the experience. Thank goodness for that.

My only hope is that the tacked on button presses will be optional.

Oh! Well in that case I'm not sure how feasible it'd be for NSMBU just due to it being tailored towards 4 player co-op. Part of the reason why you had propeller suits instead of traditional raccoon tails in NSMBW I guess.

NSMB2 has the raccoon tails, though I haven't played the game yet so I have no idea whether its secrets are more in line with NSMBDS or the classic games. If I had to wager it'd more likely be the former rather than the latter. :/

They should go even further and just cut out any gameplay whatsoever. It already looks like an animated film, may as well go the full-mile!

You know what? You're right. I'm tired of interacting with gaming experiences all together. I quit.

See ya guys and gals.

That's really what Origins was missing. "Ya know, this is a brilliant, beautiful platformer, but it what it REALLY needs is requiring you to stop, look down at your controller, and mess with the screen every 10 seconds!"

And people say UbiSoft doesn't innovate with its yearly sequels.

You don't have to look at the GamePad. Since the TV screen and GamePad screen are displaying the same image you can use spacial orientation to swipe or press in areas.

You should probably find out HOW the game uses the touch screen before you misrepresent it so maliciously.

I'm just going off what the demo levels show, where half the stage gimmicks(turning switches, raising elevators, hitting hard to reach places, uh tickling enemies, slingshotting characters into the background) require touch screen controls. I'm wondering if they really expect the single player to do all that instead of just playing a fun platformer.

What defines a gimmick for you? Something that does not fit into a genre stereotype? Are gimmicks not fun? Do you not trust these developers to make a fun experience? Or do you think it's the Wii U's fault that this game is exclusively tailored to the console?

I'm confused by your criticism.

I'm looking at this game as someone who loved Rayman Origins, the best game of 2011, in a year of overblown production values and brown-bang-bang shooters reminded me why I'm still playing these silly things after all these years. A beautiful love letter to video games and all their video games. So vibrant and challenging, yet endlessly, relentlessly accessible. Some of the best moments are the treasure chases, hard-as-nails but oh-so-satisfying, replaying them over and over until you mastered every nuance of every leap, the area of collision between you and enemies, becoming completely in-tune with the game and it's mechanics. There's definitely no time for looking down at your controller for a second and fiddling with imprecise touch screens.

There's a beautiful simplicity and platforming purity to Rayman Origins, and I remain unconvinced that these new touch screen mechanics do anything but slow down the pacing of the game for the single player or convoluting and watering down the game mechanics they nailed so perfectly with the first title for the sake of "Hey, look at this stuff you could have easily did with a normal controller!". My one hope is that everything in this game is accessible through an alternate method besides relying on Murphy to bail you out.

Or how about you dont even have to look at the screen at all because in the IGN demo there was stuff built in for people without Murfy.
They beat the minotaur without tickling it with Murfy, its not necessary.

I am scratching my head at how the E3 levels would work without the touch screen (i imagine for that it has to be required), but we've been shown a level that if you pay attention reveals that Murfy isn't needed at all.

What defines a gimmick for you?
Not talking about him, but the definition of gimmick most commonly used around here seems to boil down to pretty much "something I don't like".
Whenever someone throws around the word gimmick as a pejorative in any context vaguely related to videogames, there's a pretty big chance you should better disregard the whole argument, because it's probably not going to be worth anyone's time.

Honestly I hope it is much better than Origins. That's the first game GAF hype made me feel disappointed.

Honestly I was not a very big fan of either Mario Bros. Wii or Rayman Origins, I thought both were wildly overhyped. But I'm really liking what I'm seeing for both Wii U sequels. I'm expecting better looking games and more refined level design, now that each series has had a previous home console installment to find their footing.

Rayman Legends and NSMBU. Both are awesome in their own way. :( I'll probably go for NSMBU and wait for a price drop on Rayman Legends. But I must buy both of them.

I am actually trying Origins again, saw it's new for $10 at Best Buy. Hopefully it's worth it and the game gets better as it goes.

I picked it up for the same price too.

I was actually meh on the demo, but so far of what I've played, I really like it. Can't go wrong with it being $10.

Screenshots in the OP look amazing.

I'm a new convert to the Rayman series as of Origins.

I am legitimately excited for this game.

Edit: Those NSMB pics just gave me a serious Super Mario World vibe as well. I haven't felt that way looking at screenshots since I was a kid looking at SNES screenshots. Weird.

Ditto. I only every played Rayman on the GBA version that came out at launch. Also I have Origins on the PS Vita but I only beat the first few levels before getting sucked in Disgaea 3 and MGS: HD Collection. But I felt the game was incredibly easy to control, had great charm, fun level design, and amazing art. Definitely getting Rayman Legends if I cop a Wii U.

Stunning. I'll wait till there are more games I'm interested in on the WiiU though. Currently, my list includes Rayman Legends and Pikmin 3.

I want to pick up the Vita version of Origins but I've still only seen it in the $35-40 range, making it the most expensive version of the game. Waiting for a price drop since I already own the game.

i just got on the ORIGINS bandwagon and cannot believe how completely awesome it is. between it and DKCR, this has been the generation of the unexpectedly excellent and crack-like platformer for me.

knowing that despite anemic sales there's another rayman on the way inspires such joy joy feelings.

Looks glorious. Will definitely buy when I get a Wii-U, though that won't be at launch.

Never played the original... I should do that! I was planning on getting it on Vita but then didn't buy one. Hm. Decisions decisions.
