Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

Have you never played Metal Gear games before? They are mainly a story experience.

I've played MGS2 countless times years ago. But since I had the game memorized, i skilled all conversations and cutscenes to actually get to the awesome gameplay.

I can't do the same with the other ones because I don't know the story and it's just depressing. These are interactive movies, not games.

Yeah that's the main downside with the series, I dont know how I managed to go through the codec calls and cutscenes, I guess I was younger when I first played them lol. Peace Walker is a lot lighter on that stuff, but yeah its still annoying.

Which game are you trying btw? MGS3 is probably the best one.

Yeah I was younger and I think the cutscenes didn't bother me as much back then.

I'm just finishing Snake Tales in MGS2 and I've got a couple of hours into MGS3 already.

I actually just got the HD Collection. The amount of cutscenes and codec dialogue is so demoralizing, I can't find the will to keep playing them.

45 minutes of cutscenes/codec, 2 minutes of gameplay, 5 minutes of codec..... Dear lord.

if your just starting a MGS game, get your popcorn ready, but once the stage is set your pretty well off (MGS4 being an exception)

o hai forerunner rockets, aka incinerator cannon (from waypoint)

I was addicted to MGS1 and 2 back in the day. I really want to get into 3 but the damn cutscenes/codecs are so long and boring.

It's like every 2 areas I go through, I have to watch a movie.

I completely understand, the gameplay in 3 is so good though that its worth it, Im not blinded though, the cutscenes are intense, in 4 there is one particular cutscene that lasts nearly 2 hours I think.

I wish you luck getting through Snake Eater, its totally worth it

What you are really saying is everyone should go get the HD collection or buy Peace Walker on XBLM so we can all play Versus Ops right? If so then yes everyone go get it now!

Whoa! Can you Pause them/ skip them and watch them later in MGS4? I know in the older games you couldnt pause them, which was stupid. A 2 hour cutscene would totally kill a game for me, I would never be able to get past a burden that big unless I could download it and watch it on the train or something lol. MGS4 is the one game I really want a PS3 for, but I have only heard bad things about it :(

Man MGS3 really was a thrill, Snake Eater!

I bought a PS3 exclusively for it back in the day, still worth it

I can tell you without bias that it is one of the best experiences this console generation, I keep saying "experience" because there is alot of cutscene movie time in the game.

You can pause (and skip!) the movies in MGS4 though, I wish it was more accessible because like I said earlier, as a fan of the series, it was literally the perfect ending.

The gameplay is astonishingly good, its the MG game you wish we had all along

edit, i guess it wasnt 2 hours, it was over an hour. but sometimes if they are coupled to close together the memory runs together

I will check again to confirm, but I believe they are pausable.

MGS4 is really divisive on GAF, it seems. For me it's everything I could want as a long time fan (anything that can make MGS2 actually *make sense*). I don't want to spoil it, there's one change I would have made in how the game ended.

From a pure technical level it does some amazing things that I'm still stunned no one has adopted - the seamless integration of cutscene and gameplay, and the side-by-side cutscene/gameplay are just incredible.

I love it. But I love a lot of games that have very high highs and some significant flaws. I don't think you can have the one without the other, really.

MGS3 is my favorite. Hearing Kojima say he wants to make a Boss game nearly stopped my heart.

Halo: looking forward to heckfu's coverage. Liked what I've seen so far. Unsure if I want to watch a 10 min campaign vidoc though.

The Hero awakening is obviously the Chief. Will be talking about how they're making him more of a character, like the March reveal of the Chief design & HaloFest last year.

When I heard that I was so hyped, a Boss game would be incredible for sure, for me she is still the most interesting character, I mean she was the one that basically made everything happen yet she is so mysterious.

Between you and Nillapuddin im really considering getting MGS4 and a PS3!

How long is the panel?

I know the line was long enough that people waiting hours got screwed out of getting in. They won't even let people wait out those that usually leave, just told everyone to GTFO. It was only like 15 people that stuck around too.

There aren't TVs outside or a remote theater for people to watch either.

Yeah, that last fight, and then the ending sequence w/ Eva's monologue...Damn.

With a PS3 you also can get Journey, which IMO is a must play for this generation.

Vidocs doing nothing for me, im glad they kept it light on details as I dont want to be spoiled.

But seriously, come on 343 put out a multiplayer vidoc already, urgh.
