I actually want to see a Wii copy of Skyrim. The new pad could be innovative in several ways, not to mention the wii mote itself.

If the F2P GR game makes launch, Nintendo would be smart to have it pre installed on Wii U systems and advertise it as 'in the box'.

Doesn't Nintendo now just allows the retailer to set the price? There is no recommended retail price set in the UK.

I think if the US retail price is correct. I think we'll be able to pick one up for £199.99 online somewhere.
Nintendo set wholesale prices and give a suggested/estimated retail price. My calculation was what that suggestion would be. Rather if its what you would expect a maxinum price to be (except if say the SKU doesn't exist in Europe like the smaller capacity launch PS3s didn't).

They can't force retailers to sell it at a price but a retailer would ideally want to make a bit of profit (the suggested price allows), but preventing someone else from making profit is more important for some retailers (especially if you can get profit elsewhere) but selling below wholesale is just selling to GAME (they ordered GAME managers to buy XBOX 360 systems from Sainsburys when they sold them below wholesale price and more recently, 3DS systems at launch from Tesco).

If its like other Nintendo systems, we'll get a wholesale price (sans VAT so add 20%) eventually quoted on MCV nearer launch (who with the 3DS XL didn't understand the sans VAT bit...despite being a trade magazine *facepam*). So then we'll have an idea of how low we can go.

IIRC that tends to be about a 1-2 months before launch.

The text below the *. It say something like: "Graphics and date subject to modification from Nintendo". i.e. its not a final date. But its what I would have guessed for 2012 release (similar timing to Wii).

If Nintendo said it to retailers I'm sure Shiggy or someone would have said. Unless this is Nintendo France being maverick again (someone else is going to be fired now?)

I'm confused why everyone keeps calling these different SKUs. Aren't they just bundles? One SKU, multiple bundles like every retailer has been doing since forever?

Hm.

$250: WiiU + Upad
$300: WiiU + Upad + NintendoLand + Wiimote
$350: WiiU + Upad + NintendoLand + Wiimote + Pro Controller

Seems realistic, but if you get NintendoLand + Wiimote for 50 bucks, why does an additional 50 bucks ONLY get you a Pro Controller?

I think you are on the money, but the 350 bundle perhaps includes a nunchuck or an HDD as well.

because it is a private hardware distributor to stores not a public retailer.

And I think i recall the actual screens having different skus. but really, this all could be hogwash.

My guess:

$300 - Wii U Console + Game Pad (black or white)

If they were to include a game, then i expect it to be downloadable via a voucher.

The little leters at the end are saying that the date and price are only guesses from the Store.
More exactly it says "Nintendo" may change these informations. La Fnac is usually a big Nintendo partner and a trusted retailer. I'd be surprised they arbitrary used this date.

Downloadable on a console with no HD or included memory? Maybe not the best idea.

eh? it has been confirmed to have internal flash memory since it unveil in 2011, and the general consensus is it will be at least 8gigs, latest rumors say 20gigs. Most likely an sd card will also be packed in, but who knows what size, but probabaly enough to dl a few games onto it.

Great hope its true

250 WiiU+WiiU pad
300 WiiU+WiiU pad Nintendo Land + Wiimote plus nunchuck
350 WiiU+WiiU pad Nintendo Land + Pro Controller + Wiimote plus nunchuck

Nintendo is pretty good with discounts in there bundles, Zelda SS saved you like 20 bucks on motion plus

That 3rd bundle could have choices like (Ninja Gaiden, ZombiU or NSMBU)

I think Nintendo are brilliant.

Its amazing how they can make, just through software and interesting hardware variations (not revolutionary, just varied) stuff we've had for the past 4-5 years seem desirable, and it works.

The fact that they have nearly every generation underperformed on graphics but have made profits consistently up until the beginning of this decade, man. It really just goes to show you that all people want is software.

WiiU will do great at this price, I just don't think I'll be on board.

They underperformed on graphics this generation, and generally with the handhelds if you include them too.

It's funny this kind of revisionist history with Ninty. The NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube weren't underpowered when they were released. The increase in the cost of keeping up with tech has pretty much left them way behind the curve going forward now, as a relatively small tech company compared to the competition, but saying they have underperformed almost every time is just plain wrong when all of their home consoles prior to the Wii were at least comparable to the competition and in some cases more powerful.

This would be a great price.

OTOH, if this is the actual price for the system and Nintendo isn't selling this at a loss even with the pad... what's inside this thing?

It will be £250 minimum in the UK.

Wii was £180 for much lesser tech. 3DS launched at £230. N64 was £250 at launch. Also, three major games retailers all have their estimated prices set at £299.99 for preorders.

That makes absolutely no sense. If it's $250 in the US then it'll be less than £250 in the UK (but more than the £180 Wii released at due to differences in currency now). How advanced its tech is compared to Wii is completely irrelevant. Also no 3DS didn't launch at £230. You could get it on the high street at launch for £180 and I got it online on launch day for £169 including a game.

£200 for a console and pad and I'll bite, not interested in Nintendoland or the pro controller.

I expect $250 will translate to 250 quid though.

I agree, the more expensive sku will be the black one. But I doubt they'll pack in ZombiU when they have there own games that could go in there instead.

Seems legit.

I posted the same date from a different source on page 6, the Fnac lists a 349€ bundle on their website with the mention "available in december" Black and white units are available for pre-order.

They add : "free pre-order - lowest price guaranteed." means the price is not fixed yet probably, and they put the highest one.

It's very likely this is a placeholder. The guy that posted the info on Faqs and YT messaged me back in June. I'm waiting for another reply, but it sounds like the VPD page hasn't changed since we first talked. I guess it could be possible that Nintendo had decided on price and date by June 27th, but I think it's more likely that it's not final.

They could also not include the GPU.

That would really reduce costs.

They did this with the Wii U right? Ba-dum-cha!

I actually want to see a Wii copy of Skyrim. The new pad could be innovative in several ways, not to mention the wii mote itself.

Me too. I have the PS3 version but never got to play it because the PS3 exploded when I put the disk in.

The reason I hoped Zombi U was because it's the game I'm most interested in, and I also think that there's no other "Core" launch title that we know about that's getting the promotion and love (And exclusivity) that Zombi U is getting. Maybe, they'll offer something like a download code for a choice of games or something if their system supports that.

Where did you see it for £180 on the high street at launch? It was £230 at Game etc, cheaper (about £230 with a game) with bundle deals in supermarkets, and cheaper still online. You couldn't get a standalone console for £180 on launch day on the high street, although it dropped a couple of weeks later.

7th December makes sense for EU. IIRC we got the Wii on the 7th/8th and the 7th falls on a Friday this year.

Now just make it £200 or less and I'll bite.

Argos has quite a good deal on launch day. They gave you £50 worth of vouchers (might have been more) to use in store and was about £180-190 I think.

I also don't see how the system + padlet will be only $50 more than a 3DS XL. It doesn't really make sense.

Same as how a Vita is more expensive than a PS3 though- it's not about what the components and costs are worth, it's about what people will pay for it in large enough numbers to make the greatest profit. Can't blame a company for that.

Sell more=can sell at a slightly lower price. Maybe they have greater expectations for WiiU than 3DS in the West.

Europe got the 3DSXL sooner than the US, and the US gets the Wii U sooner. Sounds fair.

So because we got a hardware revision first, we deserve to be screwed over on a new hardware release?

I know that the US is very likely to get it first anyway, but I don't like this reasoning.

Nintendo hates Europeans. Forever.

Except when they randomly give us stuff like Xenoblade. They kind of have a love/hate relationship, it seems.

With the 3DS? We ended up paying about an extra £50 after tax

At worst you could claim 3DS was $250 to £230, but in reality the price wasn't fixed and most places sold for £180-£200. I got mine for £169 including a game on launch day.

Only once has Nintendo ever done a $250 to £250 conversion. N64, they quickly realised it was a mistake and dropped the UK price and have never done it since.
