Game Informer October Cover: Super Mario Bros. U

cov_234_lgpudh.jpg

Gaming's most famous face has graced our cover on a few occasions, but it's been 16 years since our cover story has focused on one of his adventures. We recently had the chance to visit Nintendo of America to play New Super Mario Bros. U, but that's not all we did at the studio. In addition to our ten-page Mario cover story (featuring an interview with legendary designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka), we also have an extensive feature that will prepare you for the impending launch of the Wii U.

Look how much life and character there is in just that cover. Love it.

Not sure what details can come out about the game I don't already know/expect, though. I just know I want to play it now!

Hype for a new console game from a new console from a magazine owned by a store that will sell said console and game?

Genius.

"U R MR. GAY"

Not endorsing the sentiment; just what that cover image reminded me of. I do kind of dislike how how bubbly Mario's aesthetics have become. Do the turtles really have to pan to the screen fucking dance? Ugh.

I want a return of the acid trip that was Mario 2.

Black OPs 2 and NSMBU are the two biggest titles releasing this fall, like it or not.

I wasn't thinking about sales when I said that but ok. There's also no guarantee of it doing as well since it's a new system and we just saw the new 3DS game come out to mediocre reception in the NPDs.

Didn't it do similar numbers to the DS game in less amount of time?

Kind of excited for this.

This will come after the Wii U announcements in New York, right? So it'll really just be reheated information from that conference I assume?

God I hate the New series art style.

For a long time I criticized people who argued that Nintendo's games aren't for "mature" gamers. But that shit looks like it really is for babies. Mario has become ridiculious at how much it panders. How many fucking smiley faces and rainbow vomit of colors can we cram into one image? Dude bro grey and brown aesthetics are boring to look at but so is this.

And this comes from someone who loves Animal Crossing's aesthetic.

Either that or dudebro shooter 2013.

Well when I really think about it now I believe most of the big fall games already had GI covers. Dishonored, Xcom, AC3, Borderlands 2, Halo. Only ones I'm not sure about are Far Cry and Hitman, and COD never gets on the cover surprisingly.

There's also a trailer in the link. They're going to have a full month of Wii U coverage. NSMBU footage, new attractions for Nintendoland and more.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.

NSMB2 sold almost exactly the same as NSMB in its launch month, but with less days..... so not sure how that is classified as mediocre. The series has always been one built on long legs and strong sells through the holidays. NSMBU is a guaranteed to do well just as much as AC3, BO2, etc. is.

And somehow NSMBU won't be a quality title? It just seemed like a silly remark, that's all.

New Super Mario Bros. 2's boxart rocked so I expect Nintendo will do the same for New Super Mario Bros. U. I hope we see some more interesting power ups than what has been shown off so far. I want to see a monkey power-up!

2 Nintendo games in 12 months (more or less) on the Game Informer cover? What is this?
