You became king, but we decided that sucked. Andrex, Green Scar, and ScraftyDevil are dead. A Crystal Version cartridge killed you, so Beef and Nocturnowl transferred your spirit into a mecha Empoleon. Try to keep up.

Perhaps I should have read the whole thing now that I've seen this.

I don't even know what's going on anymore.
How can I follow you my liege if you don't understand the ramifications of this thread? i'll usurp you at this rate.

It's probably the thread falling apart, to get a new one in.

It's going out with an explosion like that arse of an Electrode that kept screwing me out of those cool contests in Pokemon Ruby by exploding at the end of the show.

Anyone in the UK get Keldeo? I read that all Game stores are offering it but then I also read that you have to preorder B/W2 in there to get it. I really don't want to buy B/W2 from Game.

It's wireless so it's not like they can stop you if it's going on.

You say that, but one comment I found said that the guys behind the counter were keeping the distribution off and only turning it on when someone preordered BW2. I wasn't sure if this was how Game are doing it for this event or if it was just that store being dicks.

Then I don't know, but you won't know unless you go. Actually, why don't you call the store and ask? Safest bet.

I didn't preorder anything at my Gamestation and was able to download Keldeo twice without any problems.

Really? The people at my Gamestop said you had to preorder B/W2 first before you could get Keldeo. If that were the case, I wouldn't have preordered. I don't even remember them saying that in the email...oh whatever. I get whatever downloadable Pokemon come with preordering anyway so...yea.

Of course now what do I do with Keldeo...haha...Samurott has the water part covered and Scrafty has the Fighting part down as well.

Like every legendary, into the PC box to never be used again.

My allegiance to a generation? That doesn't exist.

Gen I used to be my favourite because nothing newer existed then.
Then Gen II came, and it became my favourite.
Then Gen III came, and it became my favourite.
Then Gen IV came, and it became my favourite.
Then Gen V came, and it is now my current favourite.

Wonder whether things will change again...

HeartGold was the most fun I had with Pokemon since original Gold, but I sure do miss the style of original Gold when I play it. Even though it is 8-bit, I actually like how it looks more than what is used in HeartGold.

One of the things that I've noticed with Gen II is that... if only they were GBC-exclusive. The colour palette seemed to suffer, with rather eye-poppingly bright colours in retrospect. Even though it can be chalked down to hardware limitations, they could, you know, just used a different shade of green and a less contrasty tile, if they never developed for the BW Game Boy in the first place.

Am I the only one who misses the color coded towns/routes from Gen 1?

I thought they added so much character to each town. That purple made Lavender Town creepy. I wouldn't expect it to work on something like the DS or GBA, but it was an awesome little trick in the Gameboy era.

The purple simply gave me the "egad colour palette" feeling instead, ruining it, perhaps even more than the FRLG one. Some things are better when not colourized improperly.

Wasn't that only in Yellow?

Also, put me in the camp of thinking each successive generation is better than the last. Yes, they occasionally take a step back, but the improvements far outweigh that.

My response actually can apply to both of you. See for me, when I look at this image I think it looks great and I like that style of coloring. It's odd that something that was a limitation for it's time due to hardware, actually ended up making me like it more, which I can also say yes I agree, Anth0ny.

You have to remember that Gameboys were not backlit. That is the reason for their bright colors, not because of limited data.

That might be true, but also keep in mind that:
  • The Game Boy Color had access to the 15-bit RGB colour space
  • Early Game Boy Advance models were not backlit, either
  • The Game Boy Advance games were perfectly playable on the original GBA

Another thing is that HGSS actually is color/art wise DPP. So it's not an 100% exact homage, which is why the trees and grass are different colors similar to how FRLG was with Ruby and Sapphire. Fuschia looks rather dull in FR/LG. I wouldn't have used the same pallete for that since it's not 8-bit, but it really does look a lot more empty and not just because it's missing something.

Game boy Advance had some garish colors too. Just look at comparison shots of Donkey Kong Country GBA ports to the originals. Rare even went on record saying that the brighter colors were because the original GBA was not backlit.

Ever try playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on an OG GBA? shit was hella dark

Pretty sure all the Super Mario All Stars ports were brighter than the originals as well.
