Someone sell me on this. I'm not the biggest fan of rouge likes, but I like my star treks and space operas with big ships.
Depends on what you don't like about Roguelikes. There's no dungeons and it isn't turn-based the way something like Shiren is, but you are voyaging out into space, getting randomized equipment and crew members for your ship, and encountering randomized enemies.
The combat seems completely unique. There are RTS elements, in that you're managing your crew members, selecting your weapons and targeting your enemy, but theres also Infinity Engine elements, in that you can pause the game at any time and choose what to do next. I don't think I'd like the game as much without that. The dynamic of it also shifts quite a bit depending on what type of weapon loadout you have. Lasers fire three shots, so the first one or two can disable the enemy's shields while the last gets in a direct hit. There are missiles which bypass shields but have limited ammo, and Ion weapons which bypass shields but just disable systems, not actually doing any damage. Right now I'm using those paired with an attack drone which swarms around the enemy ship and fires at it randomly. I'm finding it really enjoyable. Chris Remo's
stream sold me on the game, but playing it now I'm amazed at how little he used the pause and the way he stuck to lasers, but the game is obviously open to playing it however you like.
