Resident Evil 6 DEMO VER. Thread: Capcom's final chance for redemption

Holy screen tearing, Batman! Is it just as bad in the PS3 version? I haven't really been following much of the chatter about technical performance on one versus the other.

That's probably the recording device and stuff. The demo has no screen tearing at all. Like Dragon's Dogma, the PS3 version sacrifices a bit of frame rate to have no screen tearing.

You can select laser sight from the title screen option menu. Ps3 demo at least has no screen tearing, but the brightness is borked.

It's funny people keep saying this, but I guess it really depends on the TV. I can play it on the demo's standard light settings and I can see everything. And I didn't have to change anything on my TV, either.

Yeah the only problem I have with the PS3 version is that I can't see an enemy 3 feet in front of me unless I jack the brightness way up.

Anyways I enjoyed the demo and I totally still plan on getting the game. I loved Leon's scenario the most. Just give me some Barry Burton/Jill Valentine DLC or put them in Mercenaries so that this game will have everything.

Seriously why don't they use Barry more? The man is a god.

Was chatting with a member of gaming press today, apparently a lot of the other press members he chats with think the game is trash as well, they didn't fix most of the issues from the demo in the final build. The demo is pretty much the final build in terms of camera/controls e.t.c. He said to expect lower scores when the embargo lifts. IGN will probably still give it a high score though...

Yeah, I think the game is going to get hammered in some of the reviews. As long as I have a good time is all I am worried about, though. Pretty certain I will.

LOL, I hear you. Why linger, act all condescending and argue with people for simply being able to enjoy something that you don't? We get it, you hate the game. Just don't act like everyone else is supposed to as well. I can't for the life of me understand why this seems to bother some folks so much. It just baffles me.

If I wanted to, I could look through some random person's collection and find games that I think are horrible. But I would not feel the need to question why they like it and argue with them for simply liking something I don't. Now sure, go ahead and discuss what you don't like and voice your opinion. Hell, I have even voiced my own criticisms toward the demo. But I have enjoyed it more every time I played it and ultimately know I will dig the game. *shrugs*
These attempts to continue stifling all negativity are just as bad. I mean, I could say the same thing to you turned around: "we get it, you like the game."

But I won't.

At first I thought the low brightness hid some nasty shit, but the game looks really fine once its been jacked up.

I love the counter attacks in this game, the sound you get. I also got it when I set a group on fire with the flame grenades and melee rushed into them. But the car QTE needs to go, you can't fail it and doesn't seem to end so the tension is fake. Its just annoying and Helena doesn't get shit to do... that can't be right.

I am not trying to stifle all negativity. Like I said in the very post you quoted, go ahead and voice your criticisms. As I have even done the same. There is nothing wrong with that, I am talking about the few posters who keep chiming in calling those of us who like it 'blind defenders' and saying that the game is beyond being defended. That is just being condescending and unwilling to accept that some people will simply be able to have fun with what you don't like. That is all I am saying. I have no issues at all with those who are just voicing their disappointment.

The car sequence should have been done AitD style.

Honestly the controls are pretty much on par with SH4. Absolute garbage on default and merely passable when tweaked. To be fair they are trying to do a lot with the game and give you bunch of options. It basically depends on if these options end up being useful or just throwaway actions. If the demo is any indication they won't be. Leon's segment was stupidly easy just doing melee and knife attacks.

button mapping would help quite a bit if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure Leon's segment is right near the beginning of the game. Button mapping would help immensely though. The "Classic" control scheme is bollocks.

Its rather obvious that the Jake scene has been made artificially easier as well. I'm certain that you won't have that many firepower there in the full game, as I route the whole level. And I can see it getting challenging then, as you'll likely have to let your shots count and gtfo before those fuckers transform.

Its a shame that the cover system sucks all kinds of ass, but the aim of the AI doesn't seem to be terribly good despite them being buffed up soldiers. So I guess its still RE at heart..

This is not REsident Evil and could have passed for a new IP. I'd give it an 8/10 tops based off the demo.

Maybe that's the best way to approach it, as a fresh title. I had a friend check out the demo, he doesn't play third person shooters outside of GTA and has no experience with survival horror titles or any RE entries. He just approached it as a new game, caught on quickly and was doing counters and popping heads without issue. Only complaint he had was the first part of the demo being Doom 3 levels of black.

Jake and Sherry can kill the shit out of those lizards with their melee so there's really no need to run away from them.

And this is a clear indication that it will work.

There's so much perfect timing there, also the quickshots are useful it seems. It's just that the demo does not make this game justice at all.

Have you tried sliding in to cover? :0)

To be honest, I heartily recommend that people leave everything on the default settings until they know what they are doing. Except, er, Brightness.

This approach worked for me with Jake and Chris, but Leon's segment immediately felt better (still not great) after I slowed down the camera and the aiming. When the camera is slowed, it draws less attention to how poorly suited the tracking is to the narrow corridors and abysmal FOV.

Go into your settings and change RGB to limited.

Edit: That Mercenaries game play has got me pumped up anew for this game. That is some awesome Resident Evil does Vanquish action right there.

Holy shit at that 0:30 dodge.

See, this is what I like, you'll rely on your own skills to do crazy shit rather than pressing LT+RT or X+A in a QTE prompt that only appears for a microsecond.

Mercs is usually a different beast than the regular game all things considered.

If the whole game comes down to backwards dodges and abusing the the quick shots I don't see it being all that engaging. Enemies have a hard enough time getting a hit on you to begin with giving the player more options to avoid damage doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Hopefully the enemies are given some more tools to make the game somewhat challenging.

That said, Mercs looks like a ton of fun especially with all the other modes.

That's not the problem, at least for me. My TV is calibrated properly for brightness/contrast. The game is definitely the issue. A plasma screen would probably help matters, but again, I'm comparing this game to every other game I've ever played on my LCD.

Yeah, that is a shining example of how it is meant to be played. It's weird at first, but as you get used to it and see it open up it feels fine. Just reading back a few pages, you can see where these clever little nuances are still being discovered. Makes me fire the demo back up to try it for myself.

This is just one of those quirky Japanese systems with more than meets the eye and that is no real surprise coming from Capcom. While it still may have a lack of polish in areas, I can easily see it being shit on by some before they really get a proper feel for the flow and mechanics that are available beneath the surface. As can be seen on display in this footage.

It will no doubt be a fun game to master and really is not trying to be like other third person shooters. Maybe trying to play it like one is where part of the problem is.

I have a calibrated Plasma and this game definitely has issues with darkness. It's not overbearingly dark but it's... quite dark, and impacts visibility.

It could be a shader causing black crush or something. I know Mass Effect 2 had that issue and you could turn the brightness literally all the way up and it'd still have big blobs of darkness, except gray instead of black.

Why I don't have any dark problem here? I'm playing 360 version on Samsung LED. Is this problem specific to TV or console version?

I just rewatched that again, and why are people saying that enemies don't react to bullets? Looks like they react to me.

Those complaints were aimed at Zombies I believe. You know, the creatures that don't feel pain. Even then, the "reaction" is all in the bullet pulverizing their body.

There is screen-tearing because it's a YouTube video, the video itself was recorded at 1080p, which is more likely to cause tearing evidently and it was a preview build, apparently even older than the demo.

There is no tearing at all in the public demo, and highly doubtful there is any in the final game.

one would think they would have understood this by now..

Finally played this updated demo,.
Can't wait, had a great time. Even the "Leon/car/QTE" was not as bad as impressions I read around made it. :p

Just less than 2 weeks. :)

Amazing. This is what I have been saying, the gameplay is pretty damn awesome. Far more options than RE4/5 and games like Gears in terms of combat. As long as the game scenarios keep it varied, which this being RE I dont see why we have to worry about that this game will be great.

Screen tearing is fixed in the final build on the X360, compeleted the game recently and didn't see any sign of it compared to preview builds which had loads.

Considering there's stamina... I cant see it being abused that much. In fact, I just abused it a bit and got my stamina dry quick. Because as far as I know, quick shots consume stamina. I dont know if backjumps do. But if an enemy gets you when laying, expect your health to go down quickly.

Okay.

So I just played this demo, like, not even 10 minutes ago, but roughly around that area.

I gotta say, this is the worst fucking shooter I have ever played this generation.

You can't even use "but it's a horror game" as an excuse because it's not.

It's really fucking not.

My laptop is busted, I walked to the library just to type this, because I needed to get that shit off my chest.

My god, it was so bad. Leon's section, Chris's section, Jake's section. All of it, was fucking awful.

On an unrelated note, I downloaded the demo for Jet Set Radio and that is some bomb ass shit so my salt will wane with the passing of the day, RE6 demo has been promptly deleted and will remain so henceforth.

To anyone who enjoyed this, you are a special child, may your light shine eternal forever, but I ask you, why?

Do you even...how can you...just...why?

Whatever, sorry I didn't mean that. Just...I did not enjoy what I played.

It's okay... That demo was hardly enjoyable.

Finally got around to the demo, went in expecting shit but I have to admit, I enjoyed it for the most part. Leon's demo was my favorite with Chris's trailing far (I mean really far) behind.

Sorry to hear it but for most people it has nothing to do with their TV settings. It is the ps3 settings that need to be changed to RGB Limited and it will fix the problem for most people.

Also make sure that your tv is set to match the rgb setting. On your console. I've seen issues with the auto setting on tvs that would crush blacks.
