Finally got to the final ship twice and probably done.

I would love to try and unlock some additional ships but the way the wiki describes unlocking them it is pretty boring and random.

I still encourage you to go for them because they switch up the gameplay so much. Really unique. Think of them like the different classes in a roguelike, many of them completely change the way you have to play.

And the unlock conditions aren't that bad once you realise that they're almost all to be found in the races' respective homeworlds. Take the homeworld every time you can and explore that sector and chances are very good you'll find them in a few runs (though I admit I used the wiki once I encountered them as to not fuck it up). I unlocked three ships in three back-to-back runs when I actually went for them.

Yea me either, Easy definitely isn't easy.. Normal is more like nearly impossible, to me atleast. Once I beat it on Easy I'll move up to normal though and keep trying.. I've only unlocked the Engi ship so far so I'm looking forward to unlocking some more

Simple and addictive gameplay.
Can be interrupted anytime and easy to pick up again.
No need for elaborated 3D graphics.

this game begs to be on a mobile platform with a few small changes, preferable a tablet.

I actually managed to unlock the hidden ship and the alternate version.

The A Type is pretty powerful and comes equipped with a one power missile that requires no ammo and a two power laser that fires three shots per burst.

The B Type comes equipped with no weapons but comes with a 4 square teleporter which is right next to the med bay and a crew that can be pretty deadly when it comes to man to man combat. Not as good as the mantis but they have a lot of neat tricks.

After a fair first round, in the second phase the mothership spawned a bunch of drones and blow the shit of my ship. It´s going to be always that? You need target the mothership drone system in the second round?

I lied about my last run.
I found TWO stasis pods.
Unlocked one of them.
No Rock Homeworld sector. Again.

Yes, phase 2 will always have the drone swarms. The only drone you can disable is the boarding drone. The swarm of drones spawn when you hear the power surge warning.

The key to surviving is high defense. Shields and engines will help, but level 3 cloaking makes it especially easy.

The first thing I always target is that missile system. I usually send a boarding team in to kill it.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Really wish it had a few more modes... played the shit out of it for a few days.. and can't find the want to boot it up anymore to do the same thing over.

Probably setting this down for when the eventually do something new mode wise or open it outright to modders.

24 games played and finally a victoly, score 3706. Seemed everything lined up for me.

Only got 2 extra crew members but was enough. Declined all the send crew to death and 2 great weapons off the stores. boss ship got wrecked... was on easy tho.

Alright, how the heck do teleporters work? I'm getting tons of crew in the last few games and I send crew over to wreck shit but when the icon to teleport back becomes active I press it but the return arrow remains red and my crew dies. Really annoying.

You have to click on the people you want to teleport back, not the location where you want them to be teleported to (they'll always appear in your teleporter room again).

The question was asked and answered a couple times in the thread already. :)

I think he's also got a defense drone that can be disabled?
The second form has 4 regular drones in total, iirc. One beam drone, one anti-ship drone, the boarding drone and the defence drone.

you could have waited it out I suppose, since the AI repairs every system, so O2 should be repaired as well, no?

Hadn't thought about that, but almost all the ship's systems were damaged, so my ship probably would have been destroyed by the time it got around to fixing the O2.

This game is amazing. Already one of top 5 favorite games this year, hands down. I jumped into it cold turkey after some Twitter recommendations from some indie game dev friends and I am so glad that I decided to go for it.

If anything you've seen about it interests you in the slightest, you really need to jump on this game.

Got this yesterday and absolutely loving it. On my third run I got to the fith sector, loaded with scrap looking for a store. However, I jumped on a supernova and got beaten in battle... so sad.

Yeah, I just discovered the stealth ship as well and I've been rocking it on my last few play throughs. Fuck shields, this ship is awesome.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Nice mod addition:
http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3293

This will add 400 new names to the crew name generator so you dont happen to have 3 Johns anymore.

Another one for anyone that thinks the game is still too easy on normal:
http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2551
- It decreases the amount of crewmembers you have to 2
- It decreases the amount of missiles you start with to 4
- It decreases your starting energy
- It decreases your weapons damage
- It decreases your ships HP

An interesting one that adds 16 new weapons (havent checked it yet though):
http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2691

Feature Summary:
-8 NEW weapons (and counting) with custom textures
-8 improved weapons (do not replace originals)
-Plenty of new events (for the weapons, of course)
-Creeper Bombs (who doesn't want creepers?)

Exists in a perpetual state of Quantum Crotch Uncertainty.
With the game showing the jump paths before arrival I'm kinda gonna miss occasionally ending up in a sector that has a whole section that looks like it ought to connect to the exit node but is actually completely cut off from it, and only realizing this after exploring the entire thing with the rebel fleet drawing perilously close.

I wasn't too chuffed with having to make some half a dozen jumps past rebel ships while doubling back to the exit at the time, but in retrospect it was kind of neat.

I'm pretty okay with all that fun being retrospective, actually. Pretty completely okay.

Haha, probably a good way to look at it.

My google-search didn´t bring up anything good.
There is no demo available for this, isn´t there? Would really like to test it out.

Unfortunately not. Watched the videos I linked in the OP? They do a pretty good job of explaining how it plays.

I was struggling on the last boss on easy, then I had a good run on normal and beat it for the first time. Ion bombs and saving missles finally did it.

Absolutely loving the main part of this game and wish it could go on forever. But i really can't stand the design of the final boss. The second phase just seems so over powered that i feel you really have to go through the entire game designing a ship specifically to counter that phase if your intention is to win. Unfortunately 9 times out of 10 I don't seem to get the gear required and the failure is bitter after an otherwise epic run.

My main issue is that I am beholden to the weapons available in stores most of the time. I would love it if you could take weapons off of ships whose crew you have killed or that the game was longer and had a salvage and research component.

My love for the game is such that I just put my self in the mindset that I can't beat the end boss and just to play the rest of the game for the experience. Maybe I am missing something.

Watch some Let's plays on Youtube. That's how I originally got introduced to the gameplay and I was hooked just watching.

yeah i already did that and still i think a demo would do wonders on selling me (and maybe others) on the game. But i´m tempted to buy it.

There's a key to making the 2nd and 3rd stages of the boss trivial, and that is to take out all its crew, except for the one crewman manning the lasers during the first wave. The boss won't regenerate crew between battles, BUT if you kill all crew it becomes AI controlled so it can self repair. If you keep the laser guy alive during that first wave if you have any amount of shields you can take your time to whittle away his crew any way your ship is able to manage. Usually a combination of missiles/bombs + boarding parties should be enough to whittle his crew down.

After his crew is dead, the second and third forms become a matter of having either stealth to overcome the drone wave or the giant salvos, or maxed shield+evade. Then pretty much any weapon/boarding combo should be enough to whittle it down.

Thanks. I figured something like this might work. I generally always kill the laser and missile guys but have a hard time killing the rest of the crew because they just run to the med bay. Next time i will focus on bombing that area of the ship.

Are you always offered a teleporter? Crew seems to be a scarce commodity in stores, but once i get a few mantis, I like trying to disable ships then murder the crew - am I right to believe you get better salvage this way?

I feel there are some things which are mandatory against the boss.

Cloak against drone and missile spam wave, and bombs that go through the shields so you can disable the medbay. (Which means you need a crew teleporter as well ;))

On another note:

Had my best run with MANITS B.

Such a great ship, especially the 4 man teleporter. Everything was a breeze really, except that I nearly got killed by an AI ship that had 4 shields because I didn't have a lot of missiles and couldn'T penetrate it's shield with lasers. Such a close fight.

Ok I'm at the end of sector 6 and my Kestrel is stocked with weapons. I've got two Burst Laser Mark 1's (two shots per volley using two power), the starting Burst Laser Mark 2 (three shots per volley using two power), a glaive beam, and two missile launchers. The starter Artemis shot for one power and the Pegasus which is 2 shots for three power.

I'm decently stocked for crew, and I've got two augs useless for the boss fight (ftl recharge speed boost and long range scanner) and the shield recharge boost.

Is this the three laser (7 shots per barrage) plus one Artemis enough firepower to get through the boss shields and do some damage? I'd really like to use whatever scrap I can find in Sector 7 to boost my defense. I'm up to 45% evade and three levels of shield but that doesn't seem like enough.

What loadout should I even use?

Three lasers + glaive? Three lasers + Artemis or Pegasus? Once the boss is down to two shields I can juggle power to fire the glaive as a killer but it takes so damn long to charge and the boss is such a tank that I'd barely be able to use the thing it seems like.

And assuming Sector 7 isn't a horror show for me and I actually manage to find some stores and whatnot, what should I prioritize from the following wish list?

Cloaking Device
Teleporter
Engines
Fourth level of shields
Ion weapons
More power to get the Pegasus in the mix rather than the Artemis

I really really want to win dammit!

Finally beat the game on easy (xD)

Had virtually a perfect run leading up to the boss which I owned (a first for me).

Defense Drone II and Cloak helped me a lot against the mothership in phase 2 and 3. My hull never even goes to yellow against it 3 times in a row without repair :)

I wonder how many people beat the boss on Normal without cloaking. I had a really good run going with the Engi ship, but the boarding drone in Phase 2 was what I really couldn't deal with (and I'd fended off numerous Mantis boards along the way.) Getting the alarm that the drone swarm is coming and being able to cloak when it launches seems invaluable.

2.Cloaking Device
3.More power to get the Pegasus in the mix rather than the Artemis
4.Ion weapons
5.Engines
98173512638491. Teleporter

Thats what I'd say, but I know that others value Ion weapons very much. I usually fare better with brute force.
