XCOM: Enemy Unknown |OT| Neo GAF is Under Alien Control

Really? "Three" was hyperbole, of course, but it always felt like the same maps. Wasn't randomized level generation only added with XComUtil?

I've been replaying TFTD and the terror missions definitely feel like the same maps over and over.

Perhaps you're thinking of the UFO layouts - to my knowledge that's the only randomisation XComUtil added, randomised UFO floor plans.

After seeing the list of Normal vs Classic....

I have still reaffirmed my decision for Classic Ironman. Bring it.
Yeah, I think I'm going for that as well. I usually can't stop myself from reloading here or there so It'll be nice to have the game enforce it.

Thats how I am. I had to start threating my hands with steak knives to not reload a game if I lost one in my NCAA13 Dynasty lol. Ironman will stop me from doing that. I want that extra layer of fear of losing my trained up soldiers. Day 1- putting my wife in and brother-in-law. Brother-in-law will be meatshield. At least he gets a memorial right?

Also, I haven't watched ANY videos for this game. I have a read a few things but I have forced myself to not take in any videos. I have found in the past that impression/review videos can give away A LOT of things that would be better experienced for the first time by yourself.

My only concern with that is you'll get killed fumbling around with the controls or trying to figure out how stuff works in general.

I wish you could change the gender of soldiers. I wanna make sure I have some named after friends.
XCOM is an equal opportunity employer. Just find a reason to fire* some other coward and hope you get lucky with the new hire!

There's an option to ignore geography. So like, you could land in Texas and the game might randomly generate an arctic tileset instead.
Oooh.
It was definitely there from the beginning. It's all a bit prefab, though. Like, there are only a few house variations and the randomness comes in how everything is stitched together. I would happily take an XCOM delay if they could find a way to bring back random level generation.
My mistake. I think the preset tiles just kind of turned it all into a blur for me.

Apparently when a soldier dies you can see thier families grieving for them at a memorial. That's awesome.
I don't appreciate having so many people know the location of my top secret base. That's the first place aliens are going to start their interrogations. This is Black Ops Counter Infiltration 101 people.

How are we going to fit all those people in the base?

I always figured once you were part of X-Com you had to cut all ties to families and friends.

(I was under the impression from previews it was other X-Com personnel who would visit the memorial.)

What's the breakdown on the difficulty levels in this game? Just saw the new Hitman has 5 with lots of variation between them. What'll it be for XCOM?

Thanks, I usually go back a page or two but didn't for some reason, lol.

A friend told me in normal mode soldiers don't die but go to a med bay. Is this true?

God, I'm such a sucker. I've been staring at the steam preorder page for a while now just because of those sweet tf2 hats. I barely even play tf2 these days.

I wonder if that has something to do with the way the review process is handled... because they said it has ~80 maps and you'd only see between 20-35 on a playthrough so it'd take 3 playthroughs for them to start repeating.

Maybe if you're prone to dying a lot and starting new games you have a higher chance to run through them all or see repeats? Or maybe there's just non-random maps for certain battles that are always the same? I'm sure if the reviewer was playing it over all three systems or something it'd load up the same maps for each system, it might have some tracking method that is set per user account to help not repeat them, so playing under different accounts could also raise the chances of seeing repeats.

Disappointing though, for sure.

Also would have been great if there were a random map generator for multiplayer as well, so you never know what to expect going in.

Across a single playthrough, I never saw any maps perfectly repeat (although it's difficult to tell with forest maps). I did see a lot of familiar maps because I've been keeping up with streams and the like, and a few of the multiplayer maps are repurposed singleplayer ones.
