Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Because it's the final retail copy as exists right now, and if that's not what it's going to actually be day one (ie if they're doing a day one patch) they should nip it in the bud now. Every forum I go to is people spreading gloom and doom about these playlists. Even if they don't go into specifics, if there is going to be a day one patch they can just come out and say that there will be a day one patch that will make some changes to any information going around. Stems the tide of negative sentiment and gives people hope that what they want will be in.

Anything up there is more than likely left over from the cert process. People don't deserve explanations for stuff they saw behind the curtain after kicking in the back door. Even if they did, Day 1 content would more than likely be in flux and they couldn't answer anyway.

So we've heard "we'll be talking about that at a later time" in regards to a skill-based ranking system. I think we have to consider the possibility that this means when they do talk about it, they can say something like "Halo 4 does not have a skill-based ranking system analogous to what was used in Halo 3 or reach. Instead, we focused on improving the matchmaking system to prioritize skill level when creating matches."

I'd say it's a strong possibility at this point.

I'd say that is almost a definite at this point.

I am already convinced this is what they will say.

So when in regen field... It starts your shield charge but its super slow

When you are outside regen field it starts to charge after a wait period but goes twice as fast when started?

I noticed tashi hit regen then step out to get maximum effect

Bizarre

I think you're missing the point a bit; people don't "deserve" anything. But the reality is that those playlists as being on the final disc is what's making the rounds, and is leading to a lot of very negative reactions. And if day one playlists are still in flux (which would be very concerning to me for different reasons) they can just do what I posted and outright say "Playlists on November 6th have not been finalized and are subject to change" and be done with it. The longer they continue to not address, the more negative opinion solidifies. Also the longer they wait, the more likely it is that people who have already seen this info will miss any sort of update, and those people will take the current information as day one fact. I personally know people that would fall into that camp if I wasn't updating them.

They talked about this on their podcast.
  • The Regeneration Field in Halo 4 is not as effective as the one in Halo 3. That is by design so. You have to charge up the Regeneration Field before you can unleash it.
  • Originally it has a one second delay before players could spawn Regeneration Field, because people were not using it how the designers intended it. The ability was meant to support your teammates, however they found out that players were instantly deploying it in the heat of the combat and could counter a guy and beat him.
  • They slowed the Regeneration Field down, but it felt terrible and nobody ended up using it and could not use it effectively with teammates. The pace of the game was so fast, that people would not wait for you to deploy it. They found a happy medium where you deploy it fast, but you can’t use it in the heat of battle. The deploy time is now half a second.

Well... Playlists dont have to be hard coded... Just saying

Playlists could be temporary and as someone else had mentioned... Games don't close properly as waypoint isn't even running

Everything coming from MP side in terms of variable content should be taken with much salt

that is true but not the last word on the matter. We are tinkering with a couple of things.

What happend to the invisible ranking system, where you can only see your own?
as I said - there is more to say later. Let me be clear about one thing - the game tracks and accounts very rich skill data. Sorry for vagueness but clarity is coming.

:-( but it won't give me the data that matters most

Could you just have said this earlier to avoid all the drama from the "there will/will not be a ranking system" debate? People are gonna bitch, there's no stoping that. It's just good to know what features the game will have regardless. At least now we know.

Welp, I guess Talents can't buy the game at launch anymore.

Tbh, if the invisible ranking thing is true, imo it's going to promote cheating more. Say if the rank resets after a set period of time, people will spend less to pay people to rank them up, but they will pay it more often. I know one of my team mates will be levelling accounts like crazy to make a fair amount of money in his spare time.

Lol every single person in this thread is going to have Halo 4 within days of release.

Can I make a bet with you on that? I'll send you 3 of my games if I have the game within days of release if a decent ranking system isn't implemented.

I don't disagree at all, I'm just talking about public perception of what's going on right now.

Also no ranking system fundamentally kills any long-term value or sense of actual progression for me. No idea what they're thinking. Oh well.
