Google's voice to text implementation is local, apple's requires the web. That's where a big chunk of the speed is at.
Doesn't seem to work in airplane mode but that's possible.

It's impressive, that's for sure.
EDIT: I won't ever move to Android, nothing is consistent.. from the software updates, to the icons.. most phone's don't even have 4.0 and even fewer have 4.1.. I can't imagine how long it's going to take to get to 4.2.
not to mention each phone's ability to use apps.
Get a Nexus.

Why? who would you see about repairs or replacement for it? the carrier? manufacturer? or google?
This isn't Siri where it plays dumb games with you. Thankfully. Apple can keep that nonsense.
Somethings wrong in my phone. Shes not talking back. Just the results. :/
Im suprised Apple didn't stall this from being approved for years. Looks pretty kick ass. Definitely trying this out.
Google, you want to tell me why the hell iOS gets this before android devices running 4.0 do? If you can make it run on iOS, then you can make it run on your own OS.

Isn't it just Google Now that is missing from 4.0 and older?
Holy crap it is FAST.
Too bad it cant do phone applications though like "send a message" type of stuff.
I asked both Siri and google voice to sing me a song,
Siri: I can't sing
Google voice: actually sings. 2 verses but she does
Haha I just asked Google search to sing me a song and Rickrolls me with 2 lines from "Never gonna give you up...."

Check if voice search is set to US English in the settings, it won't speak back if it's set to UK English, etc.Somethings wrong in my phone. Shes not talking back. Just the results. :/
A research paper explains just how Google is able to give users speedy, accurate query returns with its new voice search tech -- it boils down to huge amounts of data.

^Yeah that does suck.
Damit if it did this ONE thing I'd be so crazy happy:
"Set a timer for 5 minutes." I need this type of thing ALL the time.
I was almost sure Google would have some fancy web-stopwatch thing it would do. Too bad.
Isn't this something Siri can do? Or do you have an Android phone?
Nope. Google search on non 4.1 devices is just a simple search app. Basically pulls up google.com for whatever you search. We have "voice actions" but that has basically no interface and has a limited set of actions.
What iOS basically has now is google now, without the automation. The cards looks like google now, even the voice commands are similar to what you can do in Google Now (What is the weather like today?). The automation of Google Now is it telling you weather and traffic before you go to work, without interaction from you.
So yeah, iOS has this, and the VAST majority of Android phones doesnt. Something is wrong with that picture Google.
The original iPhone was priced around $700 without a contract. Last year's iPhone model on cricket without a contract is at $500. I bet a 5 would be $700. I don't think contract has anything to do with the price.
I was excited to play with this app, disappointed thoroughly by it. I tried about a dozen queries and every single one behaved exactly the same way: dictate my voice, do a google search for that phrase.
... I don't need an app for that.
