The Spoony Experiment

Ah yes, you should've mentioned that there are loud jump scares at the 1:30 mark and at the very end of the first video (Paranormal Activity 4 review), so turn your volume down or skip past those points.

Also, earlier,, during the debate :)

near the end too? thanks for the warning.

got a time stamp so i can just close it?

edit: ok, it's at the very end.

Reminds me of that one episode of Ask That Guy With The Glasses.
Though I recall he had a warning on top of the video (If you watched it at the website)

the YT reviewer JeremyJahns did it once too but it was brief. i really hate when reviewers do this in their video reviewers. if i wanted that i would just go see the movies.

It's at the very end, so... around 01:06:03? When he says "the series is over, the series is dead", that's when you'll want to close the window or pause the video, because it comes after the "Continued in Part 2" card comes up.

There are no screamers in the Part 2: Sinister video, AFAIK.

yea, I skimmed through Sinister to check lol. thabkfully, he posted that he won't add these screamers anymore. what a terrible decision. don't make me stress out over a review.

speaking of the Sinister review, his recommendations for other horror movies was awesome. even if you don't care about that movie, watch the review cuz the analysis for other horror movies was pretty awesome in the second half of the video.

I'm sorry yall. I always post updates before I actually watch the videos, and I totally forgot...my bad.

Yeah, for sure. I thought that was dumb as fuck when he did it, but I guess he did get his point across.

Also, I want to watch every single movie he mentioned. My friend has Audition on DVD, so I think I'm going to watch that later on tonight. I know you can find Prince of Darkness on Youtube, which sucks quality wise, but it's there.

I'm sure most of that is tied to his theater background and having done these things for so long. Just start doing it, even if it's only for yourself, and you're bound to get better.

Never review RPGs, folks. They take weeks to finish, weeks to annotate, and months to cover.
Takes me longer than most, on top of that. You know how I ramble on.

So I guess FFXIII is probable. Tho it is halloween so who knows. Also the review might be delayed a bit.

I really hope I get this Halloween review done in time. I've been working on it like crazy, but it'll be down to the wire.

Dear lord, what an awful game, hahahaha

Just got around to watching part 1 yesterday, so the timing on part 2 was quite nice.
Excited for his next big review. : )

Apparently FFXIII review part 1 is out in 2 weeks with a new part every 2 weeks after. I think it might be a 4 parter with the last one being a late christmas episode like with FFX review. Can't wait :).

Is the ring part 1 on youtube or blip yet?
I HATE that new player, I know its because of the money but the only way I can watch the videos out here is if I download them off blip or yahoo.

Does anyone have a link to the movie blog Spoony's brother Miles writes? I read it a while ago and randomly remembered it existed this morning but I haven't had any luck finding it. Last time I read he was going through the Movies To See Before You Die book and reviewing all of them, they were pretty good.

This pleases me.

I can't wait either. These reviews are always so blunt and hilarious.

Is it just me, or would anyone prefer just to see him do more daily VLOGS instead of proper reviews? I mean, I feel weird criticizing the guy, because he's given me so much entertainment over the years, but I feel like his reviews just aren't as interesting as his VLOGS anymore, which usually are just off-the-cuff reviews anyway.

Either way, I'm excited to see what his FF 13 review has in store.

I like the mix of both. The talking to the camera stuff in his blogs is really nice because of the less formal (kind of?) feel they have. He's just talking about stuff that means a lot to him, and it's really easy to stay engaged with what he's talking about. The reviews come off a little less sincere after having watched a lot of vlogs in a row, but it's pretty much meant to be entertainment before opinion, so it doesn't bother me as much. It's probably more difficult to be as enthusiastic about something he doesn't really like in his video reviews as opposed to the things he talks more passionately about in his vlogs, which is where that feeling comes from.

Really glad he manages to produce enough vlogs to make the breaks between reviews/videos feel less painful. : P

I much prefer his VLOGs. Many of his reviews just become so gimmicky and obnoxious imo. I could watch VLOGs of him unboxing games I have no interest in normally, or talking about board games that I don't play. He's just a great guy to listen to when he's talking normally about stuff.

I don't think I'd care about unboxing, but yeah, I'd rather hear him just have more VLOGs where he just goes off on whatever; movie, game, etc. That's kind of how the Counter Monkey series started, and that's probably one of my favorite thing of his. His best stuff usually seems to be stuff that's completely off-the-cuff, like those VLOGs or Counter Monkeys, or semi-scripted stuff like Let's Play Phantasmagoria or Let's Play Ripper.

Um...so I just checked out Spoony's twitter, to see if he said anything about how the FF 13 review is coming along and...yeah...

Really, what do I do? I wrote like 2 pages discussing how shitty and inappropriate the music is. I don't even know anything anymore.
I still have to throw out half this script. The entire point was how nobody could possibly remember the shitty soundtrack.
Oh Spoony you so crazy.

I'd rather just hear his honest ranting. People love FFX for example and still love the review.

He's right though, the music in FFXIII is terrible, and mostly inappropriate, particularly in the way it competes against the melodramatic voice acting. It's something that became a bit of pet peeve of mine throughout the gamen, in that the music was competing against the voice acting, instead of underpinning the voice acting. It's like serving ice cream and serving more ice-cream as the topping.

To be honest, he really shouldn't be doing FFXIII anyway, unlike FF8 and FF10, which are kind of quirky and interesting in their own way, FFXIII is just monotonous and dull. I just don't think there's enough there to make a funny review out of it.

I much more enjoy the Reviews over the Vlogs.
Since I enjoy the jokes, gimmicks, and everything else that makes a spoony review.
His Vlogs tend to be way to log, and while they have good points just aren't for me.
But then again im not a podcast guy either (Which a VLOG basically is)

Anyway can't wait to see his FF13 review. Though I agree, him reviewing it personally isn't really needed. Hopefully he isn't stuck on it to long. Would love to see him go back to a shitty FMV title though (Since his Demolition Man Review is what got me hooked in the first place)

I mostly like spoony's vlogs but they are always too long. He rants on movies for 1-2 hours which is about as long as the movies themselves. If he kept them under 30 minutes I'd watch them more but for now I just skip most of them and stick to his reviews.

The music in FF13 was okay. I don't know if I'd say it's inappropriate, but it wasn't very memorable.

The game has so many problems you can riff on other than the soundtrack, though.
