I agree that fucking up XIV was bad and possibly irreversible to the public, but you must not realize how much FFXI made them. MMO's that are successful print money.
Maybe a total failure for Enix.
Pretty sure the perception of a lack of output will be washed away by an FF15 announcement at E3. The Lightning recycling isn't helping.
Going to take this time to praise Tactics Ogre, though. Best SE game in the past few years for me.
Considering that without the merger, the company would be gone, I don't think it's possible to consider it a failure regardless of where the company is at right now.
Glad someone from there officially stated the obvious. That was shown when Sakaguchi and everyone else left Square.
He left in 2001 in response to Squaresoft announcing its gigantic loss.

Who's everyone else? Aren't all the important people fans love still there with the exception of Sakaguchi, Uematsu, and that dude who did the story for FFT?
It was sakaguchi that brought Square to its doom, so he better get the fuck out from square.
Those who left to form Monolith Soft...
At this stage I rather let square die in its former glory than just shell of its former self. It's goddamn painful to see your most favorite company become absolutely worthless shit.
Yeah, because they certainly havent released any games worth playing in the decade or so since the merger. Nostalgia - its a hell of a drug.
I miss them putting out games like Radiata stories and where is Valkyrie Profile? Hopefully once FFXIV is out and done they can focus resources elsewhere (probably FF-Versus) they can move on.

VP3 is long overdue.

That dude who did the story for FFT had his hands in a lot of things such as FFT, Tactics Ogre, FF12, Vagrant Story..
Enix outsourced pretty much EVERYTHING, except maybe some creative involvement (i.e. Horii's involvement on the Dragon Quest series). They were never a company with any meaningful in-house development, but mostly a publisher, even Dragon Quest's development has been outsourced from the start, AFAIK.Valkyria Profile and Radiata Stories weren't in-house anyway. They're both tri-Ace. Enix outsources a lot compared to the Square-side.
Except SE is investing even MORE money into XIV. In order for XIV to make up for the lost money and recover from this is insane. XIV is trying to revive a dead horse essentially.
You mean mistwalker?Nomura should've left with Sakaguchi when they formed Monolith Soft also. (At least, I think so.) =/
no lies. Poor ha and poor nomura. Should make his own studio and bail on these baboons

Runs company into the ground, critizes company that tries to correct his financial blunders.
Squaresoft: Bill Clinton
Square-Enix: Mitt Romney

I think after the election everyone's got political allegories on their mind.This...makes no sense.
You mean mistwalker?
Fuck you. Nomura is one of the best things at Square Enix & in JRPG gaming altogether. He's the one who pushes for projects like The World Ends With You and gave Osaka Team a chance with Kingdom Hearts ReCoM & BBS, turning them from a team that was probably going to be shut down into one of the best things they've got going on, atm.Nomura is at least 50% of the problem.
Granted his movie killed them, there is nothing Square has released since then that even comes close to the games he made with them imo.

The Last Remnant is already better than every single game 'Gooch has ever made, Squaresoft or Mistwalker.

me toocouldnt agree more
Yes it made profit, but I think he was referring to the brand name.Think you're exaggerating there somewhat. XIII actually sold well, and although XIII-2 underperformed it was a cheap (by FF standards) production that was knocked together pretty damn quick. Add in revenue from the DLC packs and I suspect it made a tidy profit, which is why a second sequel is in development.
And more than anything else, what other JRPG's are setting the HD console charts on fire? Its hardly a case of it being overtaken by its competition.
Haha you know Riposte we never agree on anything on this board it's quite funny. As for Last Remnant though the story is good, characters are good but the combat system in the game is probably one of the worst for me in recent memory. It is overly complicated and unnecessary if anything they should have pulled a Suikoden considering all the characters you can aquire through the guild stuff.
The Last Remnant sold exactly as much as it deserved to. A mediocre story and an obtuse battle system that should have died with the Saga series.

Squaresoft understood the people who supported their products, was well aware of what kept everyone coming back, etc. People were loyal or at the very least respected them as a gaming juggarnaut.This...makes no sense.
