Nintendo Network ID - Friend codes no more [Maybe? Maybe not? Not clarified, yay]

Have you tried making lists? On Twitter I've broken down the twitters I follow into lists such as IRL friends, music, comedy/bots, etc. I really hope Wii U has some sort of List/tag feature but that's probably something for the future.
I haven't actually, first time I've heard of that! However, I primarily use the browser Twitter and it doesn't seem like it's that easy to switch between lists.

Yeah, remember that your Nintendo Network account will be accessible online sometime early next year to allow you to access Miiverse and the eShop from smartphones/tablets/PCs.

So there will no doubt be some account management stuff associated with that like resetting your password.

Why exactly are some people referring to Nintendo Network as NiN? It's silly. I don't understand why NN doesn't work for an abbreviation. NNID. There, see?

Quoting from Hobby from the other thread, looks like the ID will not be random numbers afterall:

Gonna quote myself again with all the UI info that was shown.

Here's what user profiles look like.

Follow and friend request buttons.

Mii name: Will
ID: willwill
Country: Japan
Number of times people empathized with him: 0
Birthday: not publically displayed
Game experience: advanced user

Number of comments: 9 (can be viewed)
Friends: - / 100 (can be viewed presumably)
Following: - / 1000 (can be viewed presumably)
Followers: - (can be viewed presumably)

- People you are friends with and are following's activity will be displayed under the "Everyone's activity" button on the left side panel.
- Friend requests sent privately via messages.

Probably not from a PC. Maybe it will be possible to get someone with a Wii U to do that for you.

this could backfire hard, if the ID gets locked to the 12 IDs allowed on one console unless they allow migration of single IDs

I am sure MiiVerse is online somewhere being tested and the Nintendo Network IDs are in use for it.

unless someone hacks Hatena within the next 10 days it does not matter

NOTE

if this is anything like Hatena ID
https://www.hatena.com/register

when you register there is a button that says "check if this ID is available"

ETC can you update the OP and change the title to something like "Friend Codes officially replaced with Username ID's"?

It just seems like the right thing to do since this is one of the biggest deals with Nintendo's Wii U online network. Many people on gaf have expressed that if Nintendo did not improve the online network and ditch friend codes that they would not be buying a Wii U.

We don't want anymore confusion on this matter, and the title is just too ambiguous now that we have the confirmation.

watch the video.
you can have 12 users on your wii u, and we can presume that each of them can have their own NNID

again presume.. I watched the video, I watched the japanese Nintendo Direct.. but I´m still a bit confused about this..

are you sure it is 12 IDs..? isn´t it just one ID, and then you can have 12 different Mii´s for that ID..?

I will say 12 (or 10) Accounts. I will have to check the Nintendo Direct translation again but it would make no sense for Dad to have 1 ID for the system and shares his Wii U with the kids

Sally 12 years old has her Mii but uses Daddy's Nintendo Network ID to sign into MiiVerse?

no this just does not work

Yeah I know, it would be obvious to have many IDs tied to one console.. .. but please NINTENDO unconfuse me.. not some journalist site.. I want solid info from Nintendo.

They haven't explicitly stated how it will work, but presumably the Mii and display name your Nintendo Network account uses is derived from the user it's tied to.

I know. I just wish they had not confused (ME) with the mentions of "USERS" on Wii-U (12 per console), and the mention Nintendo Network ID.. it makes it sound like two totally different things. I guess it is one Nintendo Network ID per user on the Wii-U, but the way they presented it makes me think it could be something else.. guess it doesn´t take long for the first people to tell about this in person.

Apologies in advance for being potentially ignorant, but will the Nintendo Network ID's have any relationship with Club Nintendo accounts?

I don't think that Nintendo has indicated at all that Club Nintendo accounts won't just remain a separate entity. Your NN account will like be able to be tied to it.

There is no way that the NNID won't be able to connect to Club Nintendo. Literally every other Nintendo online system since Club Nintendos conception has been able to connect and interact with it. I'm pretty sure that the CN and NNID accounts will be separate things

Club Nintendo should be different but still tie into it.

I am going to use the same email anyway to sign up for my NiNID

The Nintendo Network ID comes from from Hatena a company that has something called Hatena ID http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=498966

That was me guessing they work very much the same way.

Thanks a lot. I was basically just thinking about what I could use for a NNID to help pass the time then started thinking about my Club Nintendo username and how I wouldn't want to use that one which led to my question.

Coming up with screen names sucks especially when you have severe OCD. :p

When they mention users they mean a local profile on the console (up to 12) that you assign a Mii to.

Now at that point you can decide if you want to setup a Nintendo Network ID for that user so they can access the eShop, Miiverse and video chat. Each user can have their own NiN ID, take a look at this picture:

nin1knj9j.jpg

You can see the NiN icon in the corner of that user's icon indicating that they have a NiN ID setup.

I'm assuming it's done this way so parents can make just user accounts for their kids if they want to keep them off the Miiverse or from playing online.

I was thinking the same... do I use my NEOGAF name or my EA Origin name, My STEAM name it goes on and on.

I think I ended up on the one I want but seeing that I found that each ID is unique meaning first to sign up for it gets it. You still have the Nickname option I think. But the ID is how people will find you.

I sorta want to secure the name Drago, but the rest of my accounts are all called PokeDrago, so it would be inconsistent. :I

I'm thinking I'll go with something original and more Nintendo related though... I have near infinite possibilities for names. It's a bit overwhelming!

That's another problem I have, consistency. I don't have a PS3 or 360 right now, but I may or may not in the future and if not, probably a PS4 or 720, and in that case I want my ID's to match up so I check to see if names are available on those respective services too.

Like I said, bad OCD, it's a real problem. Maybe we should have a thread where we help one another in this time of crisis.

start a new generation trend with your NiNID since you are going to be using the same ID later for MiiVerse on 3DS and future Nintendo Hardware. Also with MiiVerse on PC and Smartphone. This may end up being your most used ID

just use that same ID for PS4/720

Not a bad idea. Any confirmation on how many characters the NNID will be?

But what if that ID isn't available on PSN/XBL? That's another issue.

The possibilities for a username are near infinite during a launch for a new online network, while it's a bit harder to get that same good username on established networks.

Yeah that's true. I'd like something Nintendo related too, but since it would be for other things as well, it doesn't necessarily need to be. I'm always trying to think of some good Zelda or Chrono Trigger name but all of those have been scoured and pillaged by the nerd community.

The character limit isn't known yet, or much about NN accounts at all. The longest one seen so far is 12 or 13.

That seems fine then. I wouldn't really want a terribly long name anyway.

I will say 14 going again by Hatena ID

you guys may not take me seriously but I just feel those guys did not re-write everything from scratch with the time limits they were under.

If you can start at 3 I am tempted to us one of my 3 letter IDs if I can get it

SD card into Wii U, download software, SD card into Wii, transfer, SD card BACK into Wii U, copy. I think.

But what if you have stuff on both an existing Wii SD card and on the Wii Channel Menu? How's that work when you're occupying the SD Card slot with the WiiU transfer tool on it?
