I can't tell you how awesome it was to get stuck in a ghost house in NSMBU, suspend the game with a screenshot, open up the internet, and watch a youtube video to find the secret. WiiU is the system of the forever.

I can almost guess which Ghost House you are talking about as well haha. There was only one in the entire game that really gave me an issue, but dang was it annoying.

i've been hearing different things for what people's Wii U's are doing when they're bricked. something about blinking lights on the front or something?

mine behaves like normal. turns on, blue light comes on and stays on. just no video or anything and the gamepad won't connect to it. is that a good or bad sign?

Anyone? Can anyone help me out with using an avatar on Miiverse? I've looked through the manual and nothing came up about it. Should I contact the Miiverse admins?

Sounds more like a shortage to your console. You did say that the power had been iffy in your area.

i dont think that's what happened here. i tried turning off the wii u using the power button but it wasn't shutting off, even when holding it for 10 seconds. i thought the thing had frozen up like it did when it gave me an error message earlier, and the only way to get it off was to pull the plug out. could that have caused some serious damage?

Are all the games running at native 1080p?

No games except Scribblenauts Unlimited, Rayman Legends (next year), and maybe a eShop game or two is native 1080p.

Ouch, was one of my big reasons for wanting it. Power must be very down to what was rumored. Still Nintendo can make some visually interesting things at any resolution

As others noted, it should have been safe to cut power during the download. Only during the actual installation process (which takes only a minute or two) is it dangerous to cut power.

If your system is not powering back on I don't think the update download process was the reason (provided it was only downloading and not in the middle of updating).

They had better start including this update on consoles or at least on game disc. The issues some are having need to stop. Is there any evidence of how wide spread the the problem with updating is?

Has anyone confirmed skipping the first update forces it to background download? If so I'd say a PSA thread might be in order for people getting their new systems.

How essential are Motion Plus enabled wiimotes? Do all Wii U games require them? I only have two.

NSMB U doesn't require them. Some Nintendo Land games too, like the Metroid attraction. Not sure about other titles. If you don't want to buy new Wiimotes, you can find the Motion Plus adapters for ten bucks, or less.

Yes.
Someone in this thread I believe also said it it was possible.

edit:
By far the best thing so far from this system is the fact that I purposely skipped the system update to play right away and it downloaded the system update in the background.

Another question, I am getting the Wii U for my daughter for Christmas (its not secretly for me honest!). She always enjoys 2 player games so what kind of second controller should I be looking at? Do I buy the Pro controller or do I buy a Wii-mote?

Also its there any kind of 3DS interactivity with the Wii U?

Toys R Us shipped my Wii U some time yesterday. :)

When I had the Best Buy preorder, I had also ordered NSMBU and ZombiU, but decided to take advantage of TRU's B1G1 40% off and grab NSMBU and Scribblenauts Unlimited instead.

Is TRU even carrying ZombiU? It isn't listed in the site, even for store pickup.

Wiimote for now should be the best choice.

Just cross posting this in here so that more people see it and read it, since there seems to be a lot of confusion out there.

The Wii U will work with USB 3.0 usb powered drives. You just need a Y cable for it to receive enough juice.

Any one of those cables will make your USB 3.0 usb powered external drive work with the Wii U.

It should also be noted that the Wii U seems to prefer it, if you have the system turned off before plugging the drive in.

Just for reference I have a 1tb Seagate Expansion USB 3.0 drive, and I bought the first NewEgg link above, and both work flawlessly with my Wii U.

On a side note, even though my NewEgg games were packaged on Saturday they didn't ship till Sunday evening, and they have an ETA of today, but nothing has been updated on the tracking since Sunday night, so we'll see if they actually show up.

My local TRU was carrying ZombiU.

To my surprise, they didn't have a few other games in stock such as NBA2K13 and Batman: Arkham City.

Hmm.

When I first hooked up my WiiU it was at my sister's place and her 1080p tv (which is really nice, btw). I remembered during set up I configured it so that it knew it was a 1080p television. Later on when I hooked up my Wii U to my room on a 720p, the image look quite off. After a while of tinkering with things I made set to set the TV format to 720P on the gamepad and then the image turned out just fine after.

Now my only problem is the network. It looks like until I stop being lazy and leeching off my sister's internet that I'm going to have to have the Wii U in her apartment. In my room my Wii, Mac Mini and 3ds work great but the Wii U doesn't when it comes to the router. It checks for a connection and says it alright but when I try to access friends list or mii verse or whatever I get error codes out of the wazoo. Very very annoying. So until I actually get internet for myself or keep on trouble shooting, I'll just place the Wii U at my sister's place. less anxiety that way. =p

I have like $100 in Wii Shop "points" and $20 in 3DS shop money. I'm GUESSING I can't use those on the new eShop?

Took an hour and twenty minutes to update but it was worth it. Played the first level of Mario and OMG. This system is amazing.

Can't wait until they release an update to speed the damn thing up, but from what I played of Mario I can't wait to sit down and really dig in.

I like seeing all those comments and drawings on the plaza when i boot the system. There is no way to make your Mii walk around is it?

And in Mario U, i've seen some Mii balloons near levels on the world wap, what does that mean?

Nope. However it seems like Wii U <-> 3DS may become possible in the future. Wii Shop Channel is locked forever in Wii mode.

You dont walk, but using the analog sticks you can move your sight around and focus in on the people in the different groups to read what they're saying. Left stick moves, right stick zooms.

In NSMBU the balloons are people's comments. Hit Left trigger (or maybe it's left button) to see what they're saying.

In addition you can also use the touch screen or the Wii Remote to tap specific Miis to add to your collection, view info or see their post in the Miiverse to comment on/yeah it.
