Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Stick noob here.

I need an all-in-one (360/PS3/PC) solution so I've been eying the Qanba Q4, the Eightarc Fusion or the Etokki Omni.

The Qanba is the cheapest, but I don't like that the start button is on the face so close to the other buttons. The Eightarc seems extremely similar to the Qanba, and does not have a start button on the face, but is inexplicably more expensive. Does it have better components? The Etokki is brand new, and I can't find much info on it, but it seems to be back ordered.

Any advice or recommendations from GAF as to the preferred sticks/sites to order from? I'm in Canada, but close to the border so if U.S. shipping is the best option, I don't mind the 40 minute hop across the line to pick up from the parcel carrier.

Making the great pilgrimage once more this year. I'm going to Tokyo from Dec. 10th - 14th and Singapore right after.

Can't wait to stock up on my last stick hunt of the year.

The Fusion has non stupid start button placement.

Mine should be here on Monday.

I'm in the same boat. PS3/360 (no PC yet) so one stick to rule them all is beneficial.

and I thought I wasn't going to buy another stick after the Fighting Edge.

but Arcadeshock is da best! They came through in a big way. Also got it loaded with the sanwa silent stick and buttons. Crazy what a difference it makes compared to my other VLX with all seimitsu parts.

I think th original VLX looks way better. Not feeling the DIA color scheme at all.

I still like the Big Red too, but the shiny metal on the DIA its really nice. I also dig the contrast between the two sticks as it reminds me of Tron.

For anyone wondering, the JPN version was packed better and was overall put together better (no scratches out of the box, no loose screws or panels, stick was easy to remove).

A friend of mine just bought one of the Street Fighter TE sticks and wants something as close as possible to an American style (HAPP?) bat top joystick as possible.

What's the best option?

Is there a HAPP joystick that will fit?

Or is it better to go with a restricter plate, a bat top, and a stiffer spring?

I've been out of the loop on this stuff for a while, lizardlick seems to be down too.

Short of getting a custom panel that can actually mount HAPP/iL sticks, your best bet would probably be a silent stick with a bat top, stiffer spring, and circular restrictor plate.

Wouldn't the case still be too shallow to house a Happ or iL stick?

Not sure, actually. I know there's someone on SRK who makes top panels that fitt Happ sticks, but I didn't really think about whether or not you'd need to reduce the profile further.

So I picked up SS4AE during the Steam Autumn Sale and surprise, the 360 pad isn't the greatest input device for it - I'm having serious problems pulling off combos or even double quarter circles. A stick would be great but it'd have to be a fairly cheap one as I'm probably not going to be playing any serious amounts.

Any opinions on the Hori Fighting Stick VX, or perhaps you recommend something else?

Soliciting opinions:

The Mayflash universal adapter allows a wired PS3 controller to work on Xbox 360 and vice-versa. Rumors say the Mayflash Classic Controller adapter allows a Wii Classic Controller to work on a PS3.

What are the chances that I can daisy chain a Wii TvC stick to a Mayflash CC adapter to a Mayflash universal adapter and have the stick work on a 360?

(I'm planning on buying & modding a TvC stick anyway, but just curious what people think about this idea to make it work on three consoles. My Hori Fighting Edge is my primary PS360 stick, but I'm planning on putting an octogonal gate into the TvC stick and it would be interesting to try that with Marvel, SF, P4A, etc.)

The Mayflash Wii to USB adapter does work on PS3 because whatever you connect gets recognized as a generic USB controller, which the PS3 supports. If you have one on hand, I'd try some other cheapo USB controller with the PS3 to 360 adapter.

If that works, yeah, you should be able to go TvC Stick -> Wii to USB Adapter -> PS3 to 360 adapter.

Would lag become a factor? What about potential for dropped inputs?
I once used a Mayflash GCN->USB adapter to play on PS3 and it was pretty bad.

I don't know how much Mayflash have improved their products since then though, admittedly it was a very old adapter.

There's some GAFer who uses an Xbox Controller S with an Xbox->PS2 adapter and a PS2->360 adapter. They said that the lag was non-zero, but not a serious problem. As long as you're combining good quality adapters all the way and none of them work especially poorly with each other, it's probably fine.

Thanks, I should be able to borrow one to test that - great idea.

I have no issues using my 360 Fighting Edge on my PS3. Note, however, that I am terrible, so your mileage may vary.

The only issue I've ever had with Mayflash Wii->USB adapter is that the buttons end up in the most bizarre configuration on PS3.

If you're a casual player, that'll probably be fine - I doubt you'll really pay much attention to the Hori parts if you're not going to be using it loads and loads, and you probably don't need to shell out for a TE or whatever. I can't even think what else I'd recommend to someone as a cheapo-casual fightstick these days, as I think Madcatz's offering is discontinued if I'm not mistaken...

DAMN!

This Eightarc stick. . .

It's just sooo sexy!

And soooo yellow! *^_^*

I haven't even used it yet, but I'm totally impressed with this thing. The packaging is top tier. The accessories are so generous. The handle is somthing I've been putting on my home built sticks for years.

I want to marry u eightarc! :3

Time for bed, but I'll put it through the paces tomorrow.

Thanks, I might try it then. The other one I was looking at was the VX SA but yeah, it's quite a bit more expensive, and the Madcatz TE stuff even more so.

I did see a cheap "Mayflash" stick of some sort but I assume it's not a very good one.

Anybody have opinions on the Hori RAP V3 Kai? Thinking about picking one up.

Great stick. Way better than the V3 altogether. Solid, slick and sturdy faceplate, and way more quality. More in line with the HRAP3s. The first V3s were rather cheap feeling.

grats dude!

Just gotta get a second! If they are still around in January/February I'm gonna double-dip. Really would like to make one Seimitsu. Regret not getting a second red one. I enjoy the OG Vewlix, but this one being white, high-quality paint and brushed stainless just is flat-out amazing. The actual Vewlix branding takes it up to god-level. I love that it is a port of the NESiCA machine, too. That tickles me.
There just really isn't a match out there.

What are people saying about the Razer stick? I'm looking for something new. Don't want a Mad Catz or Hori again, they're great but I want something new, and Qanba's and Eight Arcs are all over my scene.

I always thought Razer went with 360 because the system is pretty much the lead HD system in NA, with the most users. The limited Mad Catz sticks always had more quanitity, of 360 sticks, and they always sold out faster. Isn't most of the fighting game community on 360? I've always assumed that, though don't really know.

It might vary on a game by game basis but that's mostly true.

yea my red is all seimitsu. its nice having both options.

they aren't getting any more in once these are gone. I had a chance to talk to the owner of arcadeshock and he said he had to work out a deal with Hori Japan directly.

Yeah, talked with him on the phone a few weeks back. Nice dude. Gotta RESPECT the effort to get these in. $350 vs $600 is no small feat and that is awesome. One is good enough for me but I'm going to try hard to get a second...he did mention that sales were great and that they got a ton in. This month and next are booked solid financially but if they are still available in february (tax return and 100% tax refund this year!) I'm going to get a second and try to get it all Seimitsu and able to play on the 360 for all the shooter madness...I'd like to retire my EX-SEs.

And, holy shit, is it a nice stick.

Over in the Cave thread I got some advice about a used Hori EX-SE I bought, but rather than continue to derail that thread I figured I should post here. Basically the stick seems to be worn down, despite the seller claiming it is hardly used. There is a deadzone where the stick has multiple neutral positions...it does not perfectly snap back to the center.

I made a quick video to show what I mean...multiple people have said there should be no deadzone, but I just want to make sure my definition of a deadzone is not erroneous. I don't want to give the seller a hard time if this is how it is supposed to be.

How does this look to you guys? Is it normal to stay offset while in neutral?

There's definitely something wrong. It shouldn't stick like that. Did the original owner spill juice in there or something?

lol, man who knows. He claims to have used it less than an hour, but there are lots of scratches and things that suggest otherwise. He suggested it may need tightening, but I don't know what I'd tighten.

Ouch. Yeah, sticks aren't suppose to do that.

I highly recommend Qanbas. Amazing quality and versatility. And the Start butyon placement sems fine to me. No problem hitting by mistake.

I have a special edition Q4RAF with all Seimitsu, and I love it.
